Ming Qu was sent to the hospital for surgery to replace the ruptured membrane.
After this point, Gu Yuzhen was not seen again. Ah Ying accompanied her daily.
The peaceful days lasted until spring, after the new year had passed.
Perhaps because the surgery was successful, the moment the gauze was lifted, Ming Qu could just about see some light before her eyes. Although her vision remained a little blurry, she was satisfied.
“Miss Gu, can you see what I have in my hands??”
The doctor was a golden-blue-eyed foreigner who spoke French.
Ah Ying was somewhat worried, but the doctor gave her a nod of reassurance.
The doctor turned around, taking a few steps back. He pointed outside the window and asked, “Is it sunny or cloudy now?”
“Sunny.”
Ming Qu uttered the words slowly, to her own surprise.
She did not expect that with her memory loss, she would still be able to instinctively do such a thing.
“Dr. Smith, our Miss has just woken up, she needs more rest.”
While Ah Ying was also surprised, she spoke to the doctor in French as well for Ming Qu’s sake.
The doctor nodded and left the ward.
Soon after, Ah Ying would quietly report to Gu Yuzhen that Ming Qu was able to understand and speak French. He had initially only thought of her as a pitiful person. Now, he began to suspect that her true identity was not so simple. He instructed Ah Jiang to hire an investigator to look into it further.
In the study of the villa, Ah Jiang, who had arrived to deliver some documents, had simply happened to be around. When he learned that Gu Yuzhen intended to use an investigator, he looked troubled. “Mr.San Mu disappeared a few months ago. We haven’t been able to contact him since. Otherwise, we would have been able to find the second miss a long time ago.”
Behind his desk, Gu Yuzhen raised his head, looking over. His stern face radiated danger.
“What do you mean by disappeared? Don’t you have his address?”
“Sir… having his address is one thing, but we’d have to return to China.”
“Then let’s go back.” He wanted to return in person.
The investigator that the Gu family had spent a high price to acquire seemed to have run away.
“Sometime tomorrow.”
Gu Yuzhen had given the order. The next day, he took Ah Jiang, along with his bodyguards, and left the country.
As soon as he left, Ming Qu returned to the villa from the hospital.
The old lady had not gotten out of bed ever since she fell ill. Her health seemed to be deteriorating with each passing day. Now, it was as if her life was hanging by a thread.
In the days that passed in Gu Yuzhen’s absence, Ming Qu was seldom seen. Touring the villa, she finally came across a picture of Gu Yuzhen in a photo frame in the living room. He had thick eyebrows and handsome eyes, his seemingly perfect features making him resemble a meticulously crafted work of God. He seemed to radiate a cold aura which created a natural allure, such that one would not be able to take their eyes off him.
For a long time, Ming Qu remained still on the spot.
She was stunned. In the end, it was Ah Ying that came over and snapped her back to reality.
Gu Yuzhen returned to the villa two months later. A few days following his return, he received the news that the old lady’s condition had worsened.
One morning, as Ming Qu was about to get up to go downstairs, she noticed a man in a suit bending over to change his shoes at the entrance of the first floor.
She stood frozen, watching the process in a daze.
He straightened himself up and walked through the corridor, towards the stairs. Ming Qu raised her head in surprise as she met his gaze.
As her vision was not yet perfectly clear, she could only roughly make out his tall figure.
He walked swiftly up the stairs.
As he approached, she was finally able to see his face clearly. She immediately held her breath.
A pair of deep eyes that seemed to draw others in. A tall nose bridge, tightly pursed thin lips, and a perfectly sexy lower jawline.
In her time in the dark, she had repeatedly imagined his appearance in her mind. Now that she had seen him, she felt strangely compelled to keep her distance.
“G- Gu…”
Ming Qu stood still, momentarily forgetting how to move her feet. She didn’t know what to do.
“Your eyes are fine?”
He ignored her stuttering, bending over slightly in confusion to ask.
Ming Qu looked into his eyes as her neck shrunk back involuntarily, and she let out a soft ‘mhm’.
Just as the scene was beginning to feel awkward, a person rushed out of the old lady’s room, shouting in a panic, “Hurry up, call Sir!”
With that, Gu Yuzhen brushed past Ming Qu as he hurried towards the source of the voice.
Turning around, Ming Qu saw the tall figure disappear into one of the rooms.
