As was pointed out in one of the comments, the titles of nobility in the Empire may be confusing so here’s a little glossary/explanation. It will be updated as per information in the novel becomes revealed.

So in order of Rank from top to Bottom. (Male/Female)

Emperor/Empress

Prince/Princess – While ranked higher in principle each descendant of the Ruler has an ‘official’ rank from those below which defines their ranks in official circles.

Grand Duke/Grand Duchess

Duke/Duchess

Marquis/Marchioness

Count/Countess

Viscount/Viscountess

Baron/Baroness

Baronets

Knight/Dame

Khan/Khanbikeh – Ruler of the Banners

Ataman – Representative of the Banners to the Khan (Both Men and Women can be an Ataman)
