Memories Of Us - Chapter 13 Vacation 4
“I..” Sienna could only muster one word after being silent for a couple minutes. She hesitated for a long time and still can not decide what she should do. She thought of a lot of reasons to reject, but also a lot of reasons to accept. Honestly it would be perfectly logical to accept his proposal because heck, they are already engaged either way. She felt conflicted and she was not sure what could be the right thing to do.
Charles chuckled when he saw the hesitation in Sienna’s eyes. He took Sienna’s right hand and put the ring on her ring finger. He smiled slightly, his hand still holding Sienna’s.
“Use it. You can give your answer later. Either way, you are already mine,” Charles said with a matter-of-factly tone. He basically already decided the outcome for them. He looked straight at Sienna’s eyes as if he could see right to her soul. Sienna can feel the lump blocking her throat and the retort that she wanted to say somehow can’t get out from the tip of her tongue.
“Hmm..” In the end, she could only nodded and mutter intangible response. She didn’t deny Charles’s words nor throws a sarcastic remark as she usually did. She just can’t, with how sincere Charles look right now.
“You don’t have to think too much about it,” Charles smiled. “It’s not like I didn’t expect this response. I already know you for a long time, after all.”
Sienna watched the way Charles’s eyes dimmed for a second. What is it that she saw? Dejection? For a split second, Sienna thought that Charles’s smile didn’t look as sincere. For a split second, she felt a sudden pang of pain. But when she tried to look closely, she found that his usual bright eyes back. Sienna blinked, doubting if it was just her hallucination or not.
“I want to walk outside for a bit,” she blurted, suddenly feeling the need of fresh air.
“Go ahead, I’ll pay this and we can go to other place after we’re done.” Charles nodded and walked to the cashier. The young maid hovering around the cashier squealed for a bit when she saw Charles walking to her. The girl gave her best smile and tried to initiate a conversation with Charles. Sienna rolled her eyes and walked to the door, smiling to the other maid that thank her for her visit.
Sienna looked around the cafe to enjoy the beautiful scenery. She felt much more relaxed in the peaceful environment. The slight breeze, the white sand, and the blue ocean appear to be able to clear her mind. It’s not like her life has not been peaceful for the past few weeks, she just felt that she can’t truly enjoy living in a big mansion full of strangers monitoring her every move. Yes, she felt that every person on Charles’s house are there to monitor her. After all, she was just recovered from an accident and she even lost her memory. Perhaps she was thinking too much, perhaps not.
“Sienna?” A doubtful voice disrupted Sienna’s thought. She turned her head and saw a man that probably the same age as her looked at her dazedly. He was almost as tall as Charles, had a chic appearance with carefully trimmed raven hair. He used a short blue ripped denim, light blue shirt with white t-shirt, and ivory sling bag.
“Yes? And you are?” Sienna asked curiously. The man gave her a wry smile.
“I heard you got into an accident and lost your memory, so it’s true. I’m glad you are fine now though.” He said, as he smiled happily after confirming Sienna is in a perfect state.
“Who are you? How do you know about me?” Sienna asked, surprised.
“It’s a long story Why don’t we sit somewhere to talk?” The man offered.
“Sienna? What are you doing here?” Charles cut in suddenly before Sienna could answer. He took Sienna’s hand and stood in front of her, as if shielding her from danger. He looked at the man with a dangerous glint in his eyes. The man was taken aback for a second.
“You are still with him?” The man looked at Sienna with a questioning look. Sienna was confused, but she still nodded. She really wanted to know who this man is because she is pretty sure that she didn’t see his face on any of her albums. No, she is one billion percent sure she would be able to recognize any of her “friends” face. She practically memorized all the face on the album in case she meet any of her friends, and this guy wasn’t in any of it.
“Great. Oh look, I think I have to go now. See you, Sienna. Let’s talk some other time.” The man said with sarcasm laced in his words, smiled, and walked away without saying anything more.
“Hey, wait! When will we be able to meet again?” Sienna tried to call the man but he only waved his hand without looking back.
“Why are you stopping him? Why are you even talking to him, Sienna?” Charles grabbed Sienna’s hand and asked in annoyance.
“What the hell? I can’t even talk to anyone I want now?” Sienna was really close to snapping now. Charles has been restaining her enough that she almost suffocated. She hated being restrained but she has been tolerating him because he was the only one she had.
“That’s not what I meant. I just don’t like seeing you talking with other men,” Charles refuted with a pout. Sienna could almost see a dog ears dropping in a sad manner. Sienna sight, feeling defeated. She really can’t argue with Charles it annoyed her to no end.
‘I can never win against him.’ She thought hatefully.
“Do you know that guy?” Sienna asked with sullen face.
“Nope.”
“He knows me.” Sienna stated.
Charles shrugged. “Maybe he was your school friend.”
“Aren’t we friends since we were in middle school? Are you sure you don’t know him?” Sienna raised one of her eyebrows.
“Yes, but it’s not like I remember any of them. He could also be a friend of yours from before we met or something.” Charles said nonchalantly, like he didn’t really care.
“Forget it. Let’s go back to the villa. I don’t have the mood to look around anymore.” Sienna sighed as she walked towards the parking place.
“You sure are a willful one,” Charles shook his head in resignation, following Sienna one step behind.
“Oh? Then why don’t you leave this willful one?” Sienna replied without even looking at Charles.
“What are you saying? I promised myself that I will love this girl no matter what.”
“Wow. I feel touched,” Sienna said with a stoic face, her expression unchanging. Charles had a sudden urge to hold Sienna’s hand, so he did. He took her hand and intertwining them. Sienna was a little surprised, but for once didn’t release her hand. For once, she held Charles’s hand back. Charles, for once didn’t tease Sienna. His smile was brighter than the sun. They enjoyed their short walk to the parking place in comfortable silence.
The rest of the day spent inside the villa, with Sienna reading her unfinished novel, and Charles working on his laptop. His secretary called him when they were about to go to another place and said it’s an important work that need Charles’s help.
“Sienna, do you want to go out for dinner?” Charles asked after a few hours of work.
“No.” was the only answer he got. Charles looked at Sienna who was still focused on her book. He scooted closer to Sienna and played with the loose strand of Sienna’s hair.
“Aren’t you hungry? Hmm?”
“No.”
“Come on. Aren’t you bored just sitting around all day? We are on a vacation! We should go around sightseeing!”
Sienna put her book on her thighs and turned her head to Charles. “Go by yourself then. Don’t disturb me. I’m on the good part now.”
“Where’s the fun of going around by myself? I already visited almost all the place anyway. You, on the other hand, lost your memory, so it’s like your first time going here. You should enjoy your time here while I’ll be your faithful company. You know I don’t have that much time to spare when I’m back working.”
“You have a point there. Then.. just order a take out, I want to try this place specialty food,” Sienna said, opening back her novel.
“Are you a stay at home? Hah..” Charles sighed. Sienna glanced to Charles.
“Are you done with your work?”
“Yes. Wait…” Charles suddenly thought of an idea. “Are you sulking because I ignored you for my work?”
“… I’m not. Where do you even get that idea?” Sienna blushed slightly, feeling embarrassed because she really was a little annoyed but it’s not like she’s sulking. Charles grinned wider at her reaction.
“Sorry, but it’s really an important work and I need to get it done today,” he said while nuzzling her hair.
“Hmm.. Anyway, let’s just order takeout and eat it home.”
“Oh? Do you mean you want to spend time for just the two of us?”
“… I’ll change my clothes. You go get ready too.” Sienna relented, feeling that if she didn’t, she will be up for another teasing round. She would do anything to stop Charles from getting his content.

Streaks of sunlight peeking through the cracks on the white curtain illuminating the room, waiting to greet Sienna’s grey eyes. After a few seconds, Sienna’s eyes fluttered open. She blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes with her knuckles to wash away the drowsiness.
“Why are you here again?” Sienna mumbled when she felt movement on the side of the bed.
“Just want to see your waking up moments.” Charles said cheerfully, both of his hands moved to either side of Sienna head, trapping her under his body.
“Go. Let me sleep for a few more minutes. I’m tired.” Sienna covered her face with her thick blanket and intended to go back to sleep. Speaking of, after they went for dinner last night, Charles managed to convinced her to talk a walk near the beach. They ended up with a wet clothes and she had to take another bath so late at night. It annoyed her to no end.
“No can do. Breakfast is ready. Wake up or I’ll kiss you?” Sienna’s eyes snapped open at his comment and she moved so fast their heads collided with each other.
“Good morning,” Charles greeted with a quick peck on Sienna cheek, his face plastered with a grin, in which Sienna replied with a glare.
“Ugh. Why are you always disturbing my morning? My day is ruined now,” Sienna grumbled before she stood up and walked to the bathroom. “I’m gonna take a bath and brush my teeth, you can go first.”
Sienna could see the triumphant smile on Charles’s face right before she closed the bathroom door. She felt that she just lost another war.

“I was thinking about this. But, you know. That guy we met yesterday is kinda weird. How come I didn’t have any of his picture in my albums yet he knows me.” Sienna wondered about this since last night and can’t help but be puzzled over this.
“Huh? Maybe you guys aren’t that close?” Charles stopped the hand that held the fork with a slice of toasted whole-grain bread for their breakfast. He put his fork down and looked at Sienna.
“But he looks like he knows me pretty well. We could have been the best of friends. What do you think? Will I be able to meet him again?” Sienna propped her chin with her left hand and her right hand holding a fork, playing with the food on her plate.
“Don’t know. Won’t let you. And why does my fiance, here in early morning have to talk about other man?”
“Oh please. You know how uncomfortable I am with my memory missing. It’s not like I could rely on you forever.”
“Then so be it. Don’t get your memory back. Be mine and mine only. I promise I will take care of you forever.”
“You are a creepy one.” Sienna commented.
“Who cares? I love you, of course I want you to only be mine.”
“Creeeeepy.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Yes you are.” They kept bickering back and forth until it was too awkward to continue arguing. They tacitly agreed to drop the matter and decided to just go around looking for other specialty food or sightseeing.
The rest of their holiday passed without any problem, and Sienna genuinely enjoyed their time. The matter with that mysterious man was momentarily forgotten. She ate a lot of delicious foods, cakes, drinks. She also visited the popular beaches and tourist spots. It was interesting to see Charles being dragged around by her. Charles didn’t complain and complied with everything that Sienna asked.

“So I heard someone said they were not excited for the holiday but ended up being too excited that they fell sick?” Charles chuckled while handling the water to Sienna that lay weakly on the bed. Sienna couldn’t even gave a retort because she felt weak and her whole body was burning. She gulped the water rapidly and lay back on the bed. She admitted that she did eat too many ice cream for the past few days because it was too hot and who could say no to ice cream, right?
Charles put his hand on Sienna’s forehead, feeling the hot temperature of Sienna’s body. This morning he came to Sienna’s room only to find that she had a bad cold. Now that she drank the medicine, her temperature has already dropped a little. “You should rest. I will cancel our flight tomorrow if you are not getting better.”
“Mmmm..” Sienna mumbled, her hand reaching for Charles’s. “Your hand is cold. Stay here for a little while.”
“That’s my intention. You can sleep now. I won’t go anywhere.” Charles sat on Sienna’s bed side while caressing her hair.
‘It’s fine being spoiled like this once in a while’ was Sienna’s last thought before she fell into a deep sleep.
