Men Vs Apocalypse - Chapter 21
“Major Raizan, you do not usually smile early in the morning. Did you have a breakthrough or had some inspirations for you to scribble like a mad dog?” Colonel Bao was eating his eggs and bacons at the same table with Major Raizan sipping through his coffee while making notes. “I had…a lengthy discussion with two conscripts and their act of heroism gave me something to ponder about. With my powers, I promoted them to Lance Corporals.”
Colonel Bao raised an eyebrow upon hearing it. Major Raizan was famous for adhering an extremely strict criteria in his men. There were past reports when he was in command of a unit for such exploits. They called him the “Still Mountain” for insane training regime in order to filter out the best of the best from the batch of recruits. However, he was also known for promoting talents when he discovered them.
“I know you well enough Major Raizan, You are not the kind who promote a conscript out of generosity. I heard from my troops that one of the conscripts had some uncommonly seen magic. It was a surprise that we did not locate such a talent back when he was a kid.” Colonel Bao took a sip from his cup of black coffee.
“From what I heard, his magic awakened abruptly after his first skirmish.” Raizan continued to made his notes and asked an attendant of the Village Hall to make another cup of coffee for him.
“If Colonel Bao knew about Sen’s creation magic and his ability to go into other dimensional planes, Sen will definitely be a priority target for experimental research. No, he will be my experimental research. I would not allow General Xing to even touch him.” Raizan thought and continued to scribble more notes out.
“So Colonel, I will like to request to take LCP Haruyuki Sen and LCP Lee Feng under my wing. I will put a formal request out when I got back to my base.” Raizan said without hesitation.
“Major, I do not mind but surely you know that mages awakened after the age of ten tend not to have such high magical capabilities. That uncommon type of magic reported might possibly be just a one trick pony, the person might not be able to learn anything new. Are you sure of retaining him?” Colonel Bao warned.
“And the other lance corporal, I heard that he was just an injured conscript LCP Sen rescued, was he a collateral with LCP Sen? That was why you promoted him to?” Bao ate his last bacon and toast.
“Colonel, I am aware of that and no, LCP Feng had his personal …exploits. While it remained to be verified with proper sources as you had stated, I am willing to take a risk in him. Separately, I will like to ask, what is your business with Hongshan Village? I noticed more of your battalion men are coming early in the morning.” Major Raizan tried to change the subject a little.
“This is very unlike you Major, and with regards to your question, I am afraid you are not of a high clearance to know. Anyways, I supposed you are going to leave for Tianying Research Base this afternoon? Mind bringing the chosen twins with you and drop them there? I will arrange an escort at the base to bring them back to the Mage Academy.”
Bao stood up after cleaning his mouth with a piece of cloth. “Oh before you disagree, remember it is part of the examiner’s job. Have a good day Major.” Colonel Bao walked away while Major Raizan sneered as Bao left the room.
He casually took out the report on the twins he had drafted yesterday and had another look.
“Han Kari and Han Kura, high magical Potential Index and since they are twins, the two girls will probably have awaken to the same element. Hahaha, it would be hilariously disastrous for me if both awaken to the Light Magic.” Raizan placed the draft down and continued writing the possible tactics if Sen and Feng joined the battlefield with the soldiers as interim mage agents.
——–
Sen was brought back to the Earth plane again and Nes turned into the miniature size bunny sprite she was initially in. It was 8.45am and he had to report to Major Raizan by 10am. It will only take approximately 20 minutes to reach the Village Hall so he took a quick shower and grabbed a few pieces of oven bread and said goodbye to his parents.
Ever since Sen was drafted as a soldier, Sen’s parents never felt at ease seeing their only child to go out of that door. Sen treated it as normal thing but to his parents, it felt like their son was taking a step into the coffin.
As Sen enjoyed the uneasy peace with the presence of Sun Fox troops patrolling the area, he had a few questions that came to mind for the System.
“Firstly, can I tell Raizan and Feng about you, the System? I mean Feng saw your interfaces” Sen was chewing on the oven bread he brought out and gave a little to Nes while she was seating on his shoulder.
“No, you cannot. Continue with their assumptions. Your companion Dr Takeshi Raizan had theorised that you have creation magic. The closest profession to creation and manipulation magic is the ancient profession called the Weaver of Fate which the System is fairly certain that he will be able to look it up in his resources of knowledge.”
“In consideration that you are skilled with tailoring and creation magic, there is a 89% chance he will deduced you are of that profession. In addition with Nes’s help, she will be able to cast a spell combination of Hypnosis and Higher Illusion to aid your terrible lying skills.” Nes gave a salute to the System as she heard her name.
“Well, I do not think lying is needed to be a Saviour.” Sen retorted.
“User, you are wrong. Kidnap, physical and magical torture or forced interrogation requires you to lie with ease in order for you to not reveal such information. Lying is a skill a Saviour must have.”
“Wow, I guess the System is practical.” Sen kept munching on “So, can I ask how many planes are there in this world? For what I had been experiencing, it was only the Middle Age Plane.”
“The number of planes amount close to infinity. There are minor planes similar to the Moon Barren Lands. Some planes are considered personal and cannot be intruded unless you know of its existence. However, major planes such as the Middle Age Plane are the ones you should be concern with in order to delay Apocalypse.”
“This is to benefit the User so you can train to be the Saviour before the start of Apocalypse. You will be sent to events for intervention which the system deem appropriate to your strength and experience of your team. Once you are strong enough, the System will allow plane travelling by yourself.”
“Talking about team, please show me Raizan’s character sheet. I like to review it before and create the USB crystal before meeting him if possible. In case, you decided to throw me into another plane without warning again.”
The system acknowledges Sen’s command and showed him Raizan’s character sheet.
“Wow, I did not know he is that powerful!?” Sen nearly choked on the bread as he saw the stats and skills on Major Raizan. He was a Seventh Gate Mage unlike the First Gate Mage which Sen was. The number of Seventh Gate Mages can be counted in the hundreds and Sen was even surprised by Raizan’s personal age.
“He was only 28 and this made his achievement as a Seventh Gate Mage to be even more shocking.” The mean age in the recent annual statistical report for the Seventh Gate Mages reported that most of them were at least in their late sixties when they first attain the Seventh Gate. Sen continued to look through the options in his character sheet and found the option he was looking for.
“This is his Saviour profession option?” Sen mumbled while chewing his bread.
The option was highlighted in bright red, Saviour Sigma Architect.
