Mimi - Chapter 220
The door to the warehouse office opened, two figures walking inside. When Shen Jue raised his head from his laptop, the look in his eyes dimmed for a brief moment.
“Little one, glad you could make it.” He closed his laptop and stood up.
Shen Jue’s gaze drifted toward the tall man standing beside Mimi. He narrowed his eyes. While he looked to be laid back on the surface, his smile didn’t reach the corners of his eyes.
“Why is he here?” He pointed to Tobias.
Mimi swept an icy gaze over to Shen Jue and plopped down on a chair.
“I trust him. Now tell me what you know about my sister.” She got straight to the point.
“But I don’t trust him.” Shen Jue said while blinking innocently.
“And I don’t trust you, but I still work with you.” Leaning back in her seat, Mimi curled her lips into a sneer.
She narrowed her eyes, a sharp and dull glint evident in her gaze. While her voice was still soft, her tone was firm.
“Now speak.”
Astonishment showed momentarily in Shen Jue’s eyes. After a while, his eyes shift to Tobias, who stared back at him. He was standing ramrod-straight at the door entrance, an icy aura emanating from his frosty expression.
Shen Jue sighed in defeat. “A few months ago I was looking at some footage of what happened the day of Emily’s accident. Before she died, she had visited a house.”
It was Mimi’s turn to freeze in shock. She pressed her lips together, her heart thudding in her chest.
She swallowed the lump in her throat and said, “Whose house?”
Shen Jue shrugged. “A married couple.”
Mimi’s brows furrowed. She put her thoughts in order, and her expression became even more somber.
“Do you have the address?”
A smile appeared on Shen Jue’s face. He chuckled with delight, “I knew you would ask that. I have it printed and ready, we can go there whenever you’re ready.”
Taking the paper Shen Jue passed her, Mimi’s eyes lit up with a sly glint. Suddenly, someone snatched the piece of paper out of her hands. Shocked, Mimi looked up at the culprit only to see Tobias looking over the paper coolly.
When he finished reading the information, his expression was grave.
“This is a very open neighborhood. Do you expect to let her roam around so exposed after she was just targeted?”
When his gaze met Shen Jue’s, a trace of coldness flashed across Tobias’s black eyes.
“If this poses any threat to her safety, she comes back with me.” He made the declaration very clear.
Faced with such words from Tobias, the originally warm expression on Shen Jue’s face changed. Mimi looked up at him and blinked. There was a faint smile in her eyes, though she wasn’t aware of it.
“I already arranged something for that.” Shen Jue said, a smile returning to his face.
Tobias grunted. However, it seemed as if he didn’t care for his response. As if whatever Shen Jue’s response was, Tobias would find his own way to protect her.
He glanced down at Mimi, and the faintest hint of a smile glowed within his eyes. Without thinking, he rubbed her head as if to comfort her. Mimi blinked and cleared her throat to conceal her embarrassment.
“What did you have arranged?” She looked at Shen Jue, hoping he didn’t see Tobias’s actions just now. It was too humiliating.
Unfortunately, Shen Jue’s sharp gaze was constantly watching her. His eyes narrowed slightly before he walked over to a corner of the room and grabbed a cardboard box.
“This.”
Mimi and Tobias looked at the box in Shen Jue’s hands. Both their brows raised.
…
In a modest, family-oriented neighborhood, a car pulled up to the side. As the backseat door opened, a slender foot stepped out.
Exiting the car was a girl with high, delicate cheekbones, a small nose, and luminescent blue eyes. The sun beamed down on her milky, smooth skin, and silky blonde tresses. She was rather petite and dainty. Delicate, if you will. She had a slender, curving waist and a pair of enormous b.r.e.a.s.ts.
The girl was none other than Mimi. Similar to the time at the bar, Shen Jue made her wear a disguise. When she and Tobias saw what was inside the box, they were surprised. To be more precise, Mimi was more thrilled by what she saw.
A pair of fake b.o.o.b.s! And they were big!
Without hesitation, she applied them to her disguise.
Mimi raised her head and removed the dark sunglasses from her eyes before scanning the neighborhood. A frown marred her expression, narrowing her light-blue eyes as she caught herself tapping her long nails against the car.
She pursed her pretty red lips. “Are you sure this is the address?”
It looked so ordinary, she thought.
Exiting the car, Shen Jue looked around at the identical row of houses and chuckled.
“Yup, this is it.”
At the same time, Tobias stepped out of the car and looked up. A man of few words, he emitted a small grunt of approval. Mimi looked back at the houses. Something flashed within the depths of her eyes but was quickly hidden.
“Let’s go.” She said and walked to the door.
The sound of car doors closing and two pairs of footsteps sounded behind her as she stepped onto the doorstep. The house was identical to its neighbor’s right down to the shade of paint to the iron balconies.
Staring at the red, polished door, her stomach clenched into a dozen tight fists.
This was the last place Emily visited alive. Whoever was on the other side of this door would answer her questions.
She took a deep breath and tried to suppress those strange feelings. With a firm gaze, she outstretched her hand and rang the doorbell.
On the other side, footsteps approaching could be heard before the door slowly opened…
