Chapter 308 Eccentric Sushi Chef
?Daniel settled Seraphina down on a futon that Kato had prepared, and the two started to check the condition of the room they had rented. They noticed that everything was in working condition while Emma unpacked their clothes from the bag.
Of course, the clothes were only female clothes since Daniel usually threw all of his belongings into his universal pocket.
“Kato,” Daniel called out after everyone had settled down.
“Yes, Boss?”
Daniel didn’t answer immediately. He reached his hand into his universal pocket and brought out a stack of US dollars and a gold medal with a picture of a scale that had a skull and a bag of gold coins on each side of the scale. The other side featured a picture of a fierce wolf holding a severed arm in its mouth. He placed them in Kato’s hand along with a paper listing the materials he needed.
“Go out and buy me things on this list. When you return, tell me what favor you want me to deal with, and I’ll help you,” Daniel solemnly said.
“Ok, Boss, I’ll return shortly,” Kato nodded and left the room on his way.
While Kato was on his way, he looked at the medal strangely. It had some Latin words ‘Honesta Societatis Socius’ written on it. Since he wasn’t specialized in Latin, the only word he knew the meaning of was ‘Honesta,’ which means ‘Honored.’
Kato kept all of his curiosity in check and placed the golden medal into his pocket, unaware that another set of eyes had seen the golden medal. The other observer was the dock employee who had just fleeced Daniel’s group. With a smile, he followed Kato from afar.

After Kato left, Daniel checked the mana within his body and found that he could utilize it without any problems, following the knowledge of the archmage. He then tried sinking his mind into his mindscape to see if there was anything strange within this room, given the numerous talismans plastered on the door outside.
As expected, he saw a lot of reddish chains binding an ominous entity— a humanoid silhouette covered in dark-mist-like substance. He sensed a lot of anguish, rage, and unrelenting hatred emanating from that entity.
Daniel gazed at the entity for a few seconds before it suddenly seemed to look back. The chains rattled as if the entity wanted to break free and confront Daniel.
Squinting his eyes, Daniel looked at the 7 cards in his hand and found a suitable one.
Card: Purifying Flame
Picture: A white, holy flame engulfing a horde of undead, leaving behind only the purified soul, absolved of all innocent sins.
Rarity: Rare
Type: Quick Spell
Mana Cost: 1 Fire, 1 Holy, 3 Non-Element
Description: Destroy target creature. If the target creature has the ‘Undead’ and/or ‘Spirit’ subtype, create a token that copies that creature on the battlefield and place it under your control.
Flavor Text: “In the crucible of divine fire, impurities are consumed, and from the ashes rises a soul reborn—cleansed of its spectral tether.”
Daniel was about to use it on the dark entity that dared to target him, but then he remembered Emma, who was looking after Seraphina—she’s just a normal person. It’s not appropriate to let her witness what happens in the ‘Curtained World.’
“Are you hungry?” Daniel asked Emma.
Emma shook her head, still looking worriedly at her lady, who was in stasis and sleeping soundly on the futon.
Seeing this, Daniel let out a sigh. “She’s in stasis; you don’t need to worry about her. Her condition will not get worse, and she won’t feel any discomfort, let alone hunger. You should worry about yourself first,” Daniel said to her and brought out a stack of US Dollars, handing it to her.
“Kato said that the sushi bar below is quite good. Why don’t you go and try it? I’ll follow behind you shortly,” Daniel suggested, his eyes indicating that she should leave the room.
“Wait… why are you trying to make me go out? Do you want to do something against Lady Seraphina?” Emma asked suspiciously, now back to herself and fully on guard against Daniel.
“Sigh———— For the love of god! Do I look like a degenerate to you!? You can take her out along with you too if you don’t trust me that much,” Daniel retorted with a long sigh, feeling a little annoyed at Emma’s lack of trust.
“Don’t mind if I do…” Emma said, and Daniel shrugged, as if saying ‘Be my guest.’
Emma then picked up Seraphina and arranged her on her back, piggyback style, and left the room, glancing at Daniel from time to time as if afraid he would pounce on them.
Daniel felt more annoyed and frustrated at Emma’s antics.
After Emma went out and came down to the first floor with no one around, she repeatedly slammed her head against the wooden wall nearby.
“Arggggghhh! Why am I acting like that? He must think that I’m an insufferable brat! Gaaaaahhh! Why do I need to keep being like that? It feels like shit!” Emma let out her frustration, admonishing herself for her idiotic behavior while slamming her head against the wall. Ñøv€l–ß1n hosted the premiere release of this chapter.
After a good few minutes, she stopped and went to the sushi bar, hoping that after she bought a nice sushi set, Daniel would forget her idiotic act.
The auto door of the Sushi bar opened after she stood in front of it, revealing many guests sitting at the counter. Each one was a fierce-looking man with beautiful Japanese cultural tattoos slightly protruding out of their sleeves, shirt collars, or shirt lapels.
The men stared fiercely at Emma, using their glares to convey a message for her to leave. However, Emma challenged their gaze, looking at them without any fear.
<Oi, the fuck are you looking at, nee-chan? Never seen a handsome guy like me before?> One of the yakuzas stood up and approached Emma, glaring at her in return, responding to Emma’s challenging glare in Japanese.
<A whole garbage truck just crashed into your mouth? That would explain the smell of your breath.> Emma immediately taunted back in perfect Japanese, not backing off.
<You bitch!> The Yakuza was about to punch Emma, but her leg quickly kicked him in the nuts.
“Arrgghh!” The Yakuza cried out and fell to the ground, quickly angering nearby Yakuzas.
Before these Yakuzas could teach Emma a lesson, an angry roar came out of the kitchen. <Oiiiii! Why the fuck are you guys looking at my new customer like that! Is it because of you guys that I haven’t had any new customers lately!?>
A valiant-looking woman of mixed Caucasian and African descent emerged from the kitchen with her well-maintained long chef knife. When she saw Emma’s face, she showed an expression of surprise before quickly concealing it. Emma also displayed a bit of surprise.
<Other than those two women, all of you get out! I’m closing!> The chef loudly announced, startling all the Yakuza within her venue.
<Whaaaattt!? Are you serious, chef!? It’s just Toru causing trouble, why are we…> One of the Yakuza tried to placate her but got cut off with a fierce glare.
<Get the fuck out!> The chef glared fiercely at that Yakuza, indicating that she wouldn’t take no for an answer, and she wouldn’t listen to any reason either. This made all the Yakuza quickly wolf down the sushi on their plates and leave, not forgetting to bring Toru, the Yakuza who caused trouble and denied them the chef’s sushi.
After the door closed for ten or so seconds, both Emma and the chef heard sounds as if someone was getting beaten up.
<Fuck! Do you want to die!? Why the fuck are you causing trouble in her shop! Haaa?>
Pow! Pow! Pow! Bam! Crash!
<Arrggh! Aniki! I’m sorry, but that bitch…!>
<You dare talking back!? You want to sleep with the fish that much, huh? You bastard!?>
Pow! Pow! Bam! Crash!…
The beating went on for a few good minutes before it stopped as the footsteps of the group of Yakuza faded away.
“Is it normally like this?” Emma asked the chef in English.
“No, normally they are well-behaved, but I guess this time there’s a newcomer among them who doesn’t know better.” The chef shrugged a bit as she answered.
“So… what are your orders?” The chef asked, ready to prepare sushi for her customer.
“I don’t know; I’ve never eaten sushi before. What do you recommend?” Emma asked.
“Ok! Let me make some sushi recommendations for a new customer then,” the chef said with a wide smile before starting to craft sushi with the skill of a professional.
After a few minutes, the sushi was finished—nothing too fancy, just some Maguro sushi and Salmon Sushi for people new to sushi.
“Here! Enjoy!” The chef said with a smile, offering Emma a plate of sushi, tea, and some wasabi.
“So… Pride, why are you here?” The chef asked with a tone as if inquiring about an old friend while she cleaned the plates left behind by those Yakuza.
“Confederation confidential followed by an accident,” Emma said, before her body brightly lit up as the magic concealing her true features broke, revealing her appearance to be the same as Lady Seraphina, who lay on the long seat.
“Heh… Confederation confidential,” the chef repeated with disdain while cleaning the plates.
“Are you sure it’s Confederation confidential and not something your ambitious father told you to do?” The chef asked.
“Is there a difference?” She asks back.
