Chapter 312 Recruiting Magitek
?— Japan – Naha State —
In Daniel’s apartment, Gluttony was stunned by Daniel’s answer. If what Daniel said was true, why would he still consider Christopher a friend? Shouldn’t they be enemies?
“You might not know this, but that guy is not that bad. He might be a stubborn idiot who wouldn’t listen to others until you beat him to a pulp first, but once that guy comes out of his battle fanatic persona, he’s surprisingly reasonable… For a fanatic, of course,” Daniel added at the end, acknowledging Christopher’s fanatic side as still bothersome.
Hearing this, Envy smiled mischievously. She knew how powerful Daniel Emberweave was, and it was too risky to fight him to vent her anger. However, that didn’t mean she couldn’t tease him. N0v3lRealm was the platform where this chapter was initially revealed on N0v3l.B1n.
“You said you’re not more than friends with that fanatic, but you immediately defend him like that… I don’t believe that there’s no kinky thing going on between…”
Crack… Crack Clank! Clash!
The sound of a mirror cracking followed by the breaking of the mirror filled the room, and space seemed to crack, quickly spreading outward.
“What!?” Gluttony was startled. She felt like her connection with her Sanctum Sanctorum was suddenly getting weaker. Then she felt no connection to her Sanctum Sanctorum at all, despite sensing that it was still there.
“I might not look like it, but I hate this kind of teasing the most. I hope…” Daniel wanted to give Gluttony a warning, but he was suddenly interrupted by her scream.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! What? What have you done!? Oh my goddddddd!” Gluttony screamed and fell to the ground, losing all of her strength, as if she had just lost all of her wealth in a Las Vegas gamble.
What Daniel did was use one of the cards that appeared in his mindscape. Since he decided to teach Gluttony a lesson, he wouldn’t be too heavy-handed since he needed to still conceal his tracks in this country.
Card Name: Arcane Reversalis
Picture: A mage clad in a blue robe skillfully manipulating the arcane to deflect an oncoming spell.
Rarity: Common
Type: Quick Spell
Mana Cost: 1 Water, 1 Non-Element
Description: Return target noncreature spell to its owner’s hand.
Flavor Text: “The currents of magic are ever-shifting; redirect them with mastery, and even the most formidable spells become mere ripples in the arcane tide.”
“C’mon, don’t be exaggerated. I just removed your connection with your Sanctum Sanctorum. I even returned all of the materials you used in establishing it,” Daniel said with a smile.
As if confirming his words, many cursed objects appeared on the floor in front of Daniel. Among them were a blood-soaked red comb, a broken tanto emitting a thick grudge-infused dark mist, and a ragged, bloodied white kimono.
“That’s not the point, idiot!” Gluttony screamed at the top of her lungs.
“Then what’s the point?” Daniel asked blandly, picking his ear in a dismissive manner. “I don’t see the difference here. I didn’t completely destroy your Sanctum Sanctorum, did I? I just removed the thing that let you control Sanctum Sanctorum in your Sanctum Sanctorum magic integrity. Calling me an idiot like that, aren’t you too rude?” Daniel explained as if it were a normal thing.
“That! That’s why I call you an idiot! What you just did is not supposed to work! You just reversed all of the enchantments, curses, and rituals that intertwine with each other within the Sanctum Sanctorum and turned it into… into… the thing that I use to bind all those spells together! It’s impossible to work! And how am I supposed to use all of these to repair it!?” Gluttony ranted on and on while Daniel still had no idea why Gluttony was so salty.
“And?” asked Daniel, after he had failed to understand what Gluttony meant in all of her ranting.
“And? And what!? You… You…. Gahhhh!! Do you have ANY IDEA WHAT YOU JUST DID!?” Gluttony asked again because what she witnessed went against every magic principle.
In simple terms, what Daniel just did toward her Sanctum Sanctorum in denying all of her control over it is like pulling all of the copper inside an electric cable that connects to the controller in her hand while leaving anything else that’s not related to control intact.
But that’s oversimplified; it’s because it is impossible to do this while leaving the cable other than copper intact. Worse off, that cable was so unstable to the point that if there’s anything interfering with it, it will cause a chain reaction and explode violently in a big blast of purging flame!
That’s because 80% of what Gluttony had used as materials to build her Sanctum Sanctorum were cursed objects, as she is well-versed in Shamanic and Necromancy. She set a fail-safe so that if anything went wrong with her Sanctum Sanctorum and those curses were going to leak into the world, she would rather let all of the curses and maybe even herself burn in a purging flame than let all of those cataclysmic-level curses leak into the world.
“Please, don’t be a sore loser, Ms. Gluttony,” a beautiful and calm voice spoke as Pride made her entrance. Her long, light blue hair made her memorable as she walked into the room, carrying the body of her look-alike and a grand sushi bento in her hand.
“You… Ms. Serafina?” Daniel suspiciously looked at Pride as she entered with her look-alike on her back.
Pride smiled before settling Seraphina on her back, placing her on the futon. Then she touched ‘Seraphina’s’ head, and like an illusion in the desert, the features on her face changed to Emma.
Seeing this, Daniel quickly sank his mind into his mindscape and watched. He found out that the enchantment on Seraphina turning Emma’s body had broken, revealing what was hidden.
Pride turned toward Daniel with a smile before introducing herself. “Let me introduce myself, Lord Emberweave. My name is Seraphina Aldenmere, or you could prefer calling me by my witch alias, ‘Pride.'” She then gestured toward Emma.
“This is Emma. She’s my caretaker and secretary.” Pride smiled warmly, then gestured her hand toward Gluttony.
“Also, the one who is being salty over there is Gluttony. Right now, she’s on a long vacation, running the sushi bar on the first floor below.” She introduced Gluttony, who’s still upset about her Sanctum Sanctorum.
“You are the one that Greed told me about, causing trouble for her, right?” Daniel’s eyes grew sharp as he looked at Pride, who flinched a little. She wasn’t confident that she could win against him unless she used her full power and transformed into her demonic form.
But she suppressed that fear deep inside and sat down in front of Daniel, trying to be calm as much as possible.
“Yes, Lord Emberweave. I won’t deny that I caused a lot of trouble for her, but it should be as expected, don’t you think? We serve different masters, after all. She and her cohort are in Magic Harmony, founded by the Witch of Envy, while I work for my father, one of the top three sponsors of the Path of Knowledge faction. It’s the same as the competition between different companies,” Pride explained matter-of-factly.
“Understandable. I also understand why you guys are still resorting to the old ways such as slavery, as human life, blood, and even the soul are some of the most precious but also the most abundant commodities when it comes to magic material. You guys are heartlessly practical; it’s not that hard to understand your perspective,” Daniel nodded.
“That is good, Lord Emberweave. You are not like those in Magic Harmony who like to judge others by their moral standpoint,” Pride agreed, taking a glance at Gluttony and smirking as if to mock her, knowing Gluttony is one of Envy’s top loyal supporters.
This, of course, made Gluttony a little annoyed. Is this girl trying to recruit Magitek into their faction? And it seems Daniel is open to it to some degree. This can’t continue; if the Path of Knowledge faction gains the support of the infamous Magitek, it will be challenging to deal with. She needs to do something.
“Pride, you do know that Mr. Emberweave has a truckload of beef against Cyrus Ashborn, right? Isn’t the Ashborn family the top supporter of your faction? They won’t stay still if you try to recruit him,” Gluttony tried to pour oil into the fire.
“Well, thank you, Ms. Gluttony, for mentioning this. I suddenly have a great idea!” Pride thanked Gluttony. Strangely, her tone and intent didn’t have any trace of sarcasm. Which is very alarming for Gluttony.
“As a representative of the Aldenmere family and several vassalized families under the Aldenmere leadership, I can promise you the head of Cyrus Ashborn. And even if you want the blood of the entire Ashborn family to pay the consequences alongside him. It might take some time, but we can also arrange that. What do you say, Lord Emberweave?” Pride enticingly asked with a smile like a blooming flower.
