Chapter 104: Extra 1 (The Mystery of Ji Yushi’s Voice-Con)
Outside Tianqiong’s Jiang City branch.
Thick snow had piled up on both sides of the road and a thin layer of ice covered the road surface. A large red automatic snow removal vehicle slowly drove along it.
It was evening, but there weren’t many people around.
As soon as Song Qinglan came out, he saw the retro car parked on the side of the road. The car body was very clean, and the paint was shiny, but the lower part was already stained with a lot of mud—-Having spent his first winter here in Jiang City, the owner had already become used to the consequences of going out on a snowy day.
Song Qinglan got in the car. As soon as he opened the door to the front passenger seat, warm air from inside the car drove away the chill on his body.
The radio was playing a documentary.
In this era where humanity had already perfected cars with the automatic driving function, people can directly watch a holographic projection while driving so there weren’t many people who would listen to the radio anymore. Only Ji Yushi’s car would have this function.
“Moose, the largest member of the deer family. Can grow up to three metres in length and weigh up to 1,000kg. It is a….”
Song Qinglan: “…….”
He leaned over and kissed Ji Yushi’s face, “You’ve even listening to documentary about deer?”
Ji Yushi wore a black fluffy down jacket. His pale face was stained light orange by the streetlight outside. He had just left home, and he still retained a lazy at-home expression on his face. He leaned over and kissed Song Qinglan’s lips, “Mhn.”
The car was parked outside the Jiang City branch. It wouldn’t be a good influence.
Chief Wang had warned the two of them many times not to show public displays of affection in the branch as it would affect the mood of the single dogs there. After all, most of the Guardians here were single. Even if they were a gay couple, they still looked on at the two of them enviously.
When news of Song Qinglan, the homophobic straight captain of the seventh squad, and Ji Yushi, the special advisor transferred over from Ning City, getting together spread, it immediately caused a sensation throughout the Tianqiong network.
Apart from being in disbelief, they could only be even more in disbelief. With how ruthless Song Qinglan’s words were before all this, the current situation was even more shocking.
The commander-in-chief who witnessed their affectionate kiss on the transmission platform in the third command centre was the first to receive the shock but he was able to accept it calmly. Whenever someone talked about how shocking the incident was, he would calmly ask back, “Don’t just focus on being shocked. Do you have a partner?” and successfully shut them up.
The day Ji Yushi went to Ning City to handle the transfer procedures, Chief Lin’s hands were trembling slightly, “Y-you really captured him?”
Ji Yushi: “Captured.”
At first, in order to refuse Chief Lin’s transfer request, he had once said to him, “Going to a place where the proportion of men is much higher, I am worried that I may not be able to control my feelings and possibly develop an unsatisfactory relationship which can disrupt the harmony in the Jiang City branch.”
Chief Lin smacked his forehead, “I didn’t take your words back then seriously. It’s my fault for not considering the emotional needs of young people. Just thinking about it, if I was put into a team of people of the opposite sex when I was younger, I probably wouldn’t be able to handle it……But it’s okay, this is still a relationship. Xiao Song really got lucky with you……”
What originally was just a one-off transfer to temporarily fill in a position had resulted in his talented subordinate being officially recruited to join the Jiang City branch.
Chief Lin regretted it a little.
As for those in Tianqiong, Lin Xinlan was the most resentful one.
The ninth squad’s training grounds were constantly filled with anger and dark clouds. When Ji Yushi went to give them the references he had prepared for them, the people in the seventh squad even wondered if he would be able to come back out alive.
But Ji Yushi was able to leave without a hair on his body missing.
Because of Sheng Yun’s matter, the concealed case of Ji Yushi being mistakenly killed was also dug up. With the past and present involved and many matters not yet clarified, Ji Yushi wasn’t assigned any missions for the time being. They all knew that it would take a while.
Except for Ji Yushi, all the members of the seventh squad had returned and even completed several A-level missions. Right now, after the so-called ‘Tianqiong of all eras’ took over as the parent system, there were still new missions waiting for Ji Yushi to complete after he can return to the squad.
Song Qinglan had been away for two days. He had already guessed that Ji Yushi would come and pick him up.
But he didn’t expect Ji Yushi to still be listening to this program.
Song Qinglan didn’t understand what was so interesting about animal documentaries. He knew that Ji Yushi as a child had listened to the complete set of this documentary and was able to write it all down word for word and even write it all backwards if he wanted to, but every time, Ji Yushi seemed to be very immersed in it.
Fortunately, as soon as he got in the car, Ji Yushi had quickly turned off the radio.
Song Qinglan turned the situation around and rubbed his lips against Ji Yushi’s soft lips and proceeded to invade his mouth with the tip of his tongue. They exchanged a long ‘reunion’ kiss in the car. They could hear each other’s hearts beating chaotically.
The kiss ended.
Song Qinglan let out a low curse and a laugh.
Someone whistled.
Ji Yushi only now noticed that there were a group of people standing across the street.
Their five teammates stood there with cheesy grins on their faces, watching the entire time in amusement. When they saw Ji Yushi look over, the five even hooked their arms across each other’s shoulders and shouted, “One more!” before whistling even louder.
Enough.
The other five straight men in the squad formed a strange party. Not only did they change their original homophobic settings, but they had even started to blatantly ship the couple in their squad.
When Ji Yushi moved in, Song Qinglan had invited them over for dinner at his place. With all five of them staring at them the whole day, he wasn’t able to touch Ji Yushi at all.
Ji Yushi turned his head back. Without another word, he drove the car out.
The retro car made a beautiful flick, leaving them in a cloud of exhaust smoke.
*
Song Qinglan could rest for two days after completing this mission.
In the evening, the two did some vigorous exercise, the noise causing the three cats to take turns scratching at the door.
Song Qinglan was like a rogue. He often tried different ways to make the other person make a sound and also often said very shameless things in bed. Ji Yushi gritted his teeth and refused to give in, but Song Qinglan would always deliberately ask if it was here or if it was there that felt good.
When Ji Yushi finally couldn’t help but let out some sounds, Song Qinglan became even more hooked and could no longer control himself.
The two of them did it like they were fighting. After the fight, Ji Yushi would lie there paralysed for a long time, unable to move a single finger. He however would still be very cooperative the next time.
That was how young people were.
Their love was strong, and they were also hot-blooded young men.
They had a good night’s sleep.
When Song Qinglan returned after his morning exercises, he saw that Ji Yushi was once again listening to the animal documentary.
This time it was talking about birds of prey.
“The eagle owl, a nocturnal hunter. It flies close to the ground, slowly and silently, making it difficult for their prey to notice it approaching….”
The young male voice narrated. His tone was calm and not boring or dull to listen to. There was slight hoarseness in his energetic voice, making it sound like some kind of musical instrument.
As Ji Yushi listened, he fried some eggs.
Under Song Qinglan’s patient guidance, he was now able to fry eggs similar to how Song Qinglan made them.
The housekeeping robot stood on the side with its head tilted. It seemed to always be curious about this recently moved in human who would often rob it of its work.
Little Black jumped onto the counter and stared at the bright orange egg in the pan. It was unknown where the other two went.
“Why are you listening to this again?” Song Qinglan’s arms wrapped around Ji Yushi’s waist, “Are you going to listen to the whole series?”
Ji Yushi, “Something like that.”
The fried eggs were plated up. Ji Yushi told him, “This is the version from the 70’s. I only heard it when I was a child and didn’t expect to hear it again on the radio the other day. After searching online, I was able to find the audio files.”
He had been listening to it since before Song Qinglan left and still wasn’t done when he was back.
Song Qinglan laughed, “Reliving your childhood.”
“Just a bit.” Said Ji Yushi, “It’s mainly because the dubber’s voice is very nice to listen to.”
In the next few days, Ji Yushi finished listening to the documentaries. After a day or two of silence, Song Qinglan found that he had started to listen to another program called “Wonderful Earth”. It spoke about the unique places on Earth and was narrated by the same voice.
“The McMurdo Dry Valleys, located west of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, has not rained in millions of years…..”
A few more days passed.
Ji Yushi started listening to “The Profound Meaning of Time”.
The previous ones were fine, but this program touched on their field of profession. As a Guardian of their current time and space, the knowledge from the 70’s was rather behind and still had many loopholes. In less than a hundred years, the world had changed. What they knew now was far beyond what people knew back then.
Song Qinglan listened to a short segment and found it unbearable.
But Ji Yushi still looked the same as usual, as if he didn’t notice any problems with the program.
“If possible, I would go back and tell the production team that time doesn’t work like that.” Song Qinglan stopped typing and looked up from behind his transparent panel, “Unfortunately it’s not possible.”
The two sat on the same sofa. Ji Yushi was lying down with his head resting on Song Qinglan’s lap as he read a book.
Hearing this, he showed a trace of confusion and placed down his book, “What?”
Song Qinglan said, “Listen to it. His program is talking about a wormhole being a tunnel connecting two times and spaces. It sounds plausible theoretically but it’s technically impossible. This makes his entire program pointless.”
Ji Yushi let out an ‘oh’. He didn’t make any comments and just continued to read.
From the looks of it, he wasn’t listening to the contents of the show at all. He was just playing it as background noise while he read.
Song Qinglan asked, “You actually aren’t listening to it?”
“I am.” Ji Yushi turned a page and said the same thing as last time, “It doesn’t matter if there are mistakes. The dubber is very good. I can just ignore the contents.”
After a few seconds of silence, Ji Yushi finally noticed that something wasn’t right.
He placed down his book and saw that Song Qinglan had already turned off his transparent panel and pushed it aside. Song Qinglan looked down at him with interest. The situation felt a little dangerous.
The male voice in the stereo continued, his voice low and charming.
Ji Yushi blinked a few times and raised his hand to turn it off.
Song Qinglan: “Advisor Ji, are you a voice-con?” (KKnotes: Someone who likes nice voices)
Ji Yushi: “……..”
Song Qinglan raised his eyebrow slowly and took away the book in his hand. He picked up the other person and asked, “You like his voice that much?”
Even to the extent of being able to tolerate all the mistakes?
As if he had discovered some big secret, Song Qinglan’s voice was kept low and deliberately seductive.
Ji Yushi didn’t think much of it initially but when he was asked this, he suddenly realised that this was indeed the case. The new knowledge made him a little ashamed and the atmosphere for some reason turned ambiguous.
His personality was cold and distant, and he also looked unaffected most of the time.
But whenever Song Qinglan explored a little more deeply, he would discover all sorts of amazing little secrets hidden under his shell.
Ji Yushi: “………”
Song Qinglan thought of something. He pinched the tip of his nose and asked aggressively, “The chatterbox in the ninth squad. You were able to endure talking to him for so long on the phone a few days ago, could it have been because he had a nice voice?”
Ji Yushi thought about it. For some reason he felt like he was caught red-handed, “…..It was okay.”
The 1.9m tall Cap Song was jealous. He was clingier than the cats at home. He pinched Ji Yushi’s waist and asked, “If one day someone with a particularly pleasant voice appears, would you be lured away by him?”
Ji Yushi answered seriously, “Impossible.”
Song Qinglan snorted coldly to express his disbelief.
It was hard to imagine, but he was currently burning with jealousy. Ji Yushi had few friends, and his personality was introverted. It was his first time feeling like this.
And it was just because of a few voices.
“No one has a better voice than yours. I wouldn’t have been able to bear with you in the beginning if that wasn’t the case.”
Ji Yushi said this and then picked up his book and walked away.n𝑜𝐕𝓔/𝓁𝒷.In
Song Qinglan was stunned for several seconds. He suddenly laughed, “So it’s because of my voice that your tolerance for me increased?”
He chased after him and followed behind Ji Yushi, “When was ‘the beginning’? When Chief Wang introduced us?”
Ji Yushi entered the study. He made it seem like he was going to get another book, but his red ears betrayed him, “Something like that.”
Song Qinglan easily blocked him at the bookshelf. Biting the tip of his ear from behind, he chucked, “I don’t think so. You’re lying again.”
The familiar voice reverberated in his ears. It made his ears extremely hot. Ji Yushi trembled slightly from the bite.
Both knew very well that there was some truth in Ji Yushi’s words, and it was the fact that he particularly liked Song Qinglan’s voice. Whenever they were intimate, he would always reach the peak the moment Song Qinglan called his name.
“Everyone get ready. Tianqiong’s seventh squad, the thirteenth A-level mission, let’s go!”
That was the medium-low male voice that invaded his mind for the first time, accurate numbing Ji Yushi’s auditory nerves.
Since then, everything about Song Qinglan from his appearance to his voice, became an existence that he couldn’t ignore.
“It was the first time I heard your voice through the public channel.”
Facing the bookshelf, Ji Yushi closed his eyes and decided to tell Song Qinglan this secret of his.
“Public channel?” Song Qinglan sounded very satisfied, “Then, Advisor Ji, can you tell me how you felt when you heard me in your mind for the first time?”
JI Yushi placed the book back.
He turned around and looked at Song Qinglan. A man’s desire to win was hidden in his beautiful eyes, “I thought that you were a little annoying, but I could still bear with it with enough patience.”
Song Qinglan’s shiny dark eyes also looked at him.
Neither of them spoke.
They both knew. That feeling was probably the first instance his heart was moved.
