Chapter 1089: Return of the Tournament
“The Myriad Prodigies Tournament…” Taking a bit of time to get over the confusion he felt from her response, Valyr briefly caught his breath before asking the next question that came to mind.
“Wait a minute… wasn’t that tournament already finished like over a few months ago?”
As far as Valyr could remember, the first time he’d heard of the tournament was back at Clossbay City.
Being a guard of the Astarto Village at the time, he made his way to the city in order to complete a mission that Damian gave him, while also expanding his horizons on how the world worked.
With a bit of effort and time, the young man was eventually able to establish his own smithy within the city, though that caused him a whole host of problems that took up more or less the same time it took to complete Damian’s mission.
Nevertheless, Valyr still looked back at his time at Clossbay City as something positive, considering how much information he’d unraveled regarding his true identity.
At the same time, it was there that he found out he’d been chosen as the Blacksmith Guild’s representative for the Four Pillars’ Inheritance.
Though, before he was found by Braum’s group and whisked away to Algerie Kingdom, a young man he did not expect to see in the city appeared within his smithy on one fateful day, informing him of the reason why he’d come.
Amongst the few reasons the young man had given him, the prospect of the Myriad Prodigies Tournament was one of them.
“If I take into consideration the amount of time that passed in the inheritance, it was around a year ago when I first heard of the tournament.” Seeing as Mystia allowed him to expound on his words, Valyr went ahead and done so. “At the time, there was still half a year before the tournament began.”
At those words, Mystia nodded in understanding. “And now you’re wondering as to why I brought the tournament up?”
“Yeah.” Valyr nodded back. “After all, I’ve been in the inheritance for far longer than that.” “Think about it for a second,” Mystia told Valyr, a faint smile of amusement on her lips. “What happened in Veldanyr while the five of you were in the inheritance?”
“Perhaps mentioning that it happened around the same time the tournament should’ve happened might help jog your memory.”
Hearing those words, it did not take long for Valyr to piece two and two together, slightly frowning as he muttered, “The war…”
“The war, indeed.” Mystia nodded in agreement.
“I don’t get it.” Though he now understood why the tournament hadn’t been held a few months ago, Valyr was now confused as to why the tournament was being brought back now. “We’re still at war against the orcs, right? Why are they trying to hold the tournament again?”
“Honestly, I only know a bit more about the situation than you,” replied Mystia, shaking her head as she let out a low sigh. “As far as I know, they’re holding it to figure out the ones who’ll be leading the war against the orcs in the future.”
“That doesn’t make any sense,” said Valyr, the confusion he felt a bit greater than before. “The Myriad Prodigies Tournament is a tournament involving the younger generation, right? Wouldn’t it be far better to have those with experience lead the war?”
“Yes and yes.” Mystia nodded. “As far as I know, the seasoned generals would still be leading the war against the orcs for the most part. As for those from the Myriad Prodigies Tournament… that part I’m not too sure.”
“However, with how many of those tournaments I’ve already attended in the past, it doesn’t take much to figure out the reason why.”
“What is it?” Hearing those words, Valyr raised his eyebrow in curiosity, looking at the woman beside him with a hint of expectation.
“The Nine Heavenly Pillars,” responded Mystia, her expression making it apparent that she did not want to discuss the topic with him. “The nine greatest prodigies to ever live in Veldanyr.”
Of course, even though she showed her reluctance of talking more about the topic, Valyr still tried to ask more about the Nine Heavenly Pillars, curious as to what she meant by that.
Yet, no matter how persistent he was in asking, Mystia never budged even one bit, forcing him to give up in the end.
“In any case, you should think about joining the tournament,” Mystia told him, making the latter look at her curiosity once more. “Of course, not for the thing I mentioned earlier, but the rewards that you’d get from placing high there.”
“It’s a tournament hosted by the empire itself, after all. Its rewards aren’t going to disappoint by any means.”
Though his thoughts were still on the term she refused to explain, Valyr decided to move on as he nodded in response. “I’ll think about it. When will the tournament be held?”
“Around a month from now,” replied Mystia, deciding that now was the best time for them to part ways. “Either way, I’ll keep you updated, seeing as I’m in the empire and all that.”
“Got it.” Nodding in response, Valyr bade farewell to her as he thanked her for her help once
more.
Watching Mystia bid farewell back in response, the young man waited until her silhouette disappeared from his vision before deciding to head back to the inn.
Ding!
However, before he could even take a step forward, he received a notification from the system, only to find out that Mystia had sent him a message.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“If you ever decide on joining the tournament… perhaps I might tell you what the Nine Heavenly Pillars mean on the day the tournament starts.”
“…” Reading the message Mystia sent him, the young man was briefly left at a loss for words.
Though, with a shake of his head, he was easily able to regain his bearings, causing him to let out a sigh of slight exasperation as he made his way back to the inn.
“And here I thought you’d be firm in not talking about the Nine Heavenly Pillars with me whatsoever,” murmured Valyr to himself as he slightly hastened his pace.
“…Now you’ve just made me more curious than before.”
…
“Haah.”
After taking a brief detour to get some late dinner, Valyr eventually found himself back at the room he and the other two were staying, letting out a sigh of relief the moment he stepped
inside.
Stowing away the armor he was wearing into his spatial bracelet, the young man paused in his actions as he pondered over the conversation he and Mystia had earlier.
‘It’ll be a while before I could get more information on that,’ thought the young man as he returned to what he was doing, faintly wondering whether Julian or Noel knew about the Nine
Heavenly Pillars.
Deciding to ask the two if they were ever free, Valyr soon went through his usual routine, only to be greeted by both Wells and Edward the moment he got out of the shower.
“I thought you two were already asleep.” Changing into a fresh set of clothes before heading
to bed, Valyr’s eyes slightly widened in surprise when he found out that the two were still awake.
“We usually sleep a bit later than this,” replied Wells with a slightly apologetic smile. “The frontlines and all that.”
“Anyways, how did the meeting go?”
Seeing as even Edward was curious as to how the meeting went, Valyr went ahead and gave the two a brief yet concise explanation of how his proposals had gone in the meeting earlier. Hearing that their friend’s proposals were more or less unanimously accepted by all of the directors in the Blacksmith Guild, both Edward and Wells felt great joy for the young man, congratulating him on his success.
In response, Valyr thanked the two, only to then correct them that they should be the ones happy that his proposals were accepted.
Just as the two were wondering what Valyr meant by that, the young man went ahead and took out the set of True Wyvern Armor and the arquebus from his spatial bracelet, allowing the two to identify and touch the items to their heart’s content.
Naturally, it went without saying that the two were left at a loss for words once they were
done, easily imagining what kind of change the two items would bring once they were distributed throughout the frontlines.
“I wouldn’t even be surprised if the scale greatly tips in our favor because of these items,” said Wells at some point as they decided to celebrate the entire thing by ordering a few meals
from the inn.
After they were finished with their late night meals, the three of them decided to call it a day as they headed to their own respective parts of the room.
Lying down on his bed, Valyr thought about the plot of land he had yet to take a look at, briefly thinking about the various things he planned on building there in the foreseeable
future.
Because of how much he thought about what he planned to do with the plot of land, even going so far as to think about Ryvrthe and the others in the inheritance, the young man ended
up not being able to fall asleep.
Though, rather than be annoyed at that realization, he instead took it as an opportunity, deciding to make use of the time by working on things that he pushed to the side due to
various reasons.
Discarding all of the things that needed him to head out of the room so late at night, Valyr was eventually left with a couple of things he could focus on while making himself sleepy.
“I guess I’ll work on the Truth Weaver Scripture, then,” murmured Valyr to himself the moment he came to a decision, immediately shifting his senses inward not long after.
