Chapter 1101: Leaving for the Frontlines
“Hey, Valyr. Where are you?”
“Edward and I are about to leave.”
Reading the couple of messages he’d gotten from Wells, Valyr did not take long to understand what was going on, making him fall into a slight panic all of a sudden.
‘Oh shit, I forgot,’ thought the young man to himself, whirring his thoughts into motion as he briefly calculated how long the two had been staying in the kingdom since their return.
Coming to the conclusion that they’ve extended their stay in the kingdom by over a day, Valyr immediately had a feeling that he was the cause for their delay, causing him to feel guilty for doing so.
Taking in a deep breath to regain his composure, Valyr briefly looked at Julian before
returning his attention to Wells’ message. “Sorry. I’m still at the Blacksmith Guild. Could you two wait at the kingdom for just a little bit longer?”
As he sent this message to Wells, Julian noticed the sudden shift in his expression before asking in concern. “Did something bad happen?”
“I almost ended up forgetting the promise I made to Wells and Edward,” said Valyr as he looked at Julian with a bitter smile, giving him a brief explanation of what he planned on doing.
“Heading to the frontlines, huh,” murmured Julian as he was done listening to the young man’s explanation. “Well, I was expecting you to head to the frontlines sooner or later like the others… but are you really sure you want to head there right now?”
Hearing the man’s words, Valyr raised his eyebrow in curiosity. “Did the situation there change or something?”
“Well… it’s not to the point of me persuading you to stay here,” replied Julian as he tilted his head to and fro. “But the orcs have doubled down on their offensive because of the progress our side was making.”
“Not only that, but I’ve heard a few rumors here and there that they plan to bring the elves into the war as well. At that point, I don’t even know if it’s a good thing to stay there.”
Listening to Julian’s explanation, Valyr realized at that moment that he was currently at the turning point where the war would soon turn into the War of the Three Sovereignties he knew in his past life.
Understanding that it was bound to happen sooner or later, the young man took in another deep breath before looking at Julian with a calm expression. “If that’s the case, then all the more reason for me to head there now.”
“After all, it’ll be a while before the armor and the arquebus gets distributed to everyone in the frontlines. If anything, we haven’t even gotten an update from the guild on our proposals yet.”
“I was just about to say something about that,” said Julian as he interrupted Valyr’s brief explanation. “The Blacksmith Guild is actually planning to come meet you in a couple of days to finalize the proposals, as well as the conditions that you plan to set in exchange for the guild obtaining your blueprints.”
“Is that so?” At those words, Valyr went silent for a bit as he took a look at the reply Wells sent to him.
Then, closing his eyes for a bit, the young man soon looked back at Julian as he firmly made up his mind. “Well, I guess they’ll have to hold that meeting at the frontlines, then.”
“… You really plan on heading to the frontlines now?” Being left at a slight loss of words from Valyr’s response, it took a while for Julian to gather his thoughts. “I know you’re strong, Valyr. I wouldn’t even be surprised if your full strength is greater than I imagined.”
“But think about it a bit more, will you?”
“And just now he said that he wasn’t persuading me to stay here,” said Valyr in response with a slight chuckle. “If I won’t head to the frontlines now, then when? When the war already has the elves joining in? When the war is in an even worse state than now?”
“I’m not mad, just so you know,” the young man clarified himself. “I’m just telling you… and I think this is the first time I’m telling you directly, that you’re underestimating what I’m capable of.”
For a while after that, Julian looked at Valyr in silence, the expressions on his face making it more than obvious to the latter that many thoughts were going through his mind at that moment.
Yet, in the end, the man let out a sigh before looking back at him with a wry smile. “It kind of hurts when you put it that way… but I guess you’re right. I might have been underestimating you all this time.”
“I guess it just sank in that you’ve been achieving all of these feats that a normal person would take years, if not decades to do… which made me remember.”n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Even if it may not seem like it at times, you are undoubtedly a Zeihardt,” said Julian, his expression showing the young man that he’d come to a decision. “And I don’t mean this in a mocking way. Almost everyone knows that Zeihardts sometimes make the impossible possible.”
“With that being said, I guess I shouldn’t hold you up here any longer.” At those words, Julian began to leave the workshop, bringing up a screen of his own as he began to send messages to some people he knew. “I’ll give the guild a heads-up that you’re heading to the frontlines.” “Plus, I’ll also ask some of the people I know to help you out in the frontlines,” continued the man with a grin. “Call it another gift for your contributions to the guild thus far.” Seeing the man’s attitude take a 180 degree shift, the young man was stunned for a bit before letting out a bit of laughter in response.
‘Who knew being straightforward and direct would help make things better?’
After talking with Julian for a bit more regarding a couple of things, Valyr soon made his way out of the Blacksmith Guild as he headed to the gates where Edward and Wells were staying. For now, it was time for him to head to the frontlines.
