1160 Challenging the Heavens (3)
Whoosh!
After talking a bit more with Scho’doxa on what he planned to do on the next fight, Valyr decided to bring out all of his forging equipment from his spatial bracelet after taking a look at the state of his armor.
Temporarily setting up a workshop at the center of the arena, he then took a couple of potions out of his spatial bracelet to top up both his health and energy reserves, causing him to let out a faint sigh of relief soon after. Taking off his whole set of armor after that, Valyr put one of the armor pieces on the anvil before swiftly getting to work.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Wielding the Hammer of Beginnings with a firm grip, Valyr activated [Advanced Repair] to its utmost limits, patching up the damage his opponent dealt to his armor earlier.
At the same time, he conjured a couple of translucent arms with [Ephemeral Limbs of the First Blacksmith], firing up the furnace in preparation for the heavier repairs he saw himself doing.
Watching Valyr work on his armor from a distance, a thought eventually surfaced in Scho’doxa’s mind as he noticed the young man use all of the equipment he brought out as if they were on the back of his hand. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Recalling a conversation he had with Valyr during an earlier part of the tournament, the man eventually decided to move closer to him before voicing out the suspicion he had in mind.
“Say, Valyr… are you a blacksmith by chance?”
“Well, I wouldn’t be wielding this forging hammer if I wasn’t,” joked Valyr in response, raising the Hammer of Beginnings for a bit before shifting his attention back to the armor piece he was working on. “Why’d you ask?”
“Well, watching you work on your armor made me think about the arquebus you brought out earlier,” said Scho’doxa, prompting the young man to recall his fight against the peak Rank 6 puppet.
“You and I both know that your arquebus isn’t really a weapon that should exist in Veldanyr,” the man told him. “After all, the planet’s general level of technology at the moment is only nearing the end of the Early Middle Ages.”
“No point in beating around the bush.” Feeling like the man was going about the matter in a roundabout manner, Valyr briefly looked at the man with a slight frown. “What are you really trying to ask me?”
Scho’doxa could only smile in response. “Judging by your words, I’m sure you already know.”
Indeed, Valyr knew. “Are you asking me if I was the one who forged the arquebus?”
Hearing those words, the man merely nodded.
“Well…” Mulling over the question a bit, the young man eventually looked back at Scho’doxa with a teasing smile on his face. “What if I told you I did?”
Though Valyr was talking in a hypothetical manner, Scho’doxa immediately understood at that moment that the young man in front of him was the one who made the arquebus he brought out.
With that, it went without saying that the man asked him as to how he’d come across the technology in the first place, as well as the hardships he’d gone through to get the arquebus to its current state.
In response, Valyr let out a low sigh as he briefly yet concisely answered all of Scho’doxa’s questions, attributing it all to the fact that he was lucky enough to enter an inheritance that taught him how to forge the arquebus in the first place.
Of course, in reality, the inheritance was just a small gear to the entire mechanism.
Nevertheless, Valyr’s response was more than enough to enlighten Scho’doxa, causing the latter to beam a smile as he thought back to another conversation the two of them had.
‘I think it was the right choice to give him that title,’ thought the man to himself, deciding to remain silent after that as he watched Valyr repair his armor back to peak condition.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Although the artifact he was wielding definitely aided him whenever he forged a new piece of equipment, with the experience he’d accumulated as a blacksmith between two lives, it went without saying that it only took a while before Valyr was able to return his armor to how it was before.
Making a few enhancements to his set of armor here and there, the young man eventually told Scho’doxa he was ready to continue with the challenge, swiftly storing all of the forging equipment he brought out back into his spatial bracelet.
After that, he took out his arquebus, as well as the things he needed to fire the weapon from his spatial bracelet.
Deciding to arm the weapon before the fight even began, the young man watched as Scho’doxa disappeared from his vision for a moment, only to return with the winner of the Mid Rank 6 tournament not even a minute later.
Swoosh!
Surprisingly, similar to the winner of the Early Rank 6 tournament, the victor of the Mid Rank 6 tournament hailed from another race.
Specifically, the winner was an elf.
However, unlike the elves Valyr had come to recognize in his past life, the elf that stood beside Scho’doxa looked a bit different.
“Half-elf?” Continuing to look at the being that stood beside the arbiter, the young man noticed that the elf looked more like a human than an actual elf.
If anything, the only telltale sign that the woman was related to the elves were her pointed ears.
“Got any problem with that?” the half-elf asked Valyr with a frown, hearing the words the latter was murmuring to himself.
Of course, the young man had no problem with that at all.
“Just surprised.” Valyr shook his head as he clarified himself. “Never did I think I’d be fighting against a half-elf. You guys are rare, after all.”
“Hoh?” Unfortunately, the half-elf’s impression towards him only soured after hearing that. “Are you telling me half-elves aren’t worthy of fighting you? Is it because we can’t be as talented as humans or elves?”
“I… haah.” At first, Valyr planned on refuting the woman’s words.
However, getting the feeling that the woman would only misconstrue his words even further, the young man decided not to pursue the matter any further.
With that, he glanced at Scho’doxa, who nodded back with a calm expression as he told the two to get into their positions.
Feeling as if the half-elf wouldn’t hold back on her attacks once the fight began, Valyr glanced at her with a slight frown as he tightly gripped onto his arquebus, pondering over how he’d end the match as soon as possible.
“Are you two ready?” While he was doing that, Scho’doxa briefly glanced at the two of them to see if they were ready with their preparations.
Obtaining a nod from the two in response to his question, the man faintly nodded as he took flight, signaling the start of the match not long after.
