Chapter 951: Proving One’s Strength (2)
At the moment, Valyr began to hold his trusty spear with both of his hands, Sellifer immediately felt that the aura surrounding the young man gradually began to weaken.
Continuing to observe for a bit more after that to ascertain whether the effect was just a one- time thing, the woman eventually raised her eyebrows as she asked Valyr, “Does it drain all of your strength at some point?”
Valyr shook his head at the question. “It does not. However, I’ll eventually lose 30% of my stats while wielding it for long enough.”
“Including the ones you gain from the buffs?” asked Sellifer after that, to which Valyr faintly nodded in response.
With her expression becoming serious after that, Sellifer continued to observe Valyr’s gradually weakening strength for a bit longer, eventually asking the young man to stop what was causing his loss in strength a couple of minutes later.
Nodding at those words, the young man went ahead and returned his spear back to its rightful place, which immediately returned all of the strength he lost during that time.
Slightly widening her eyes at the discovery, Sellifer pondered over what just happened for a bit with a pensive expression.
“To be honest, I’m not sure,” said the woman after some time. “My instincts tell me you have a curse, but there’s also the possibility of it being a greater hex, you having a cursed ego weapon, or some other detriment I may not know of.”
“It’s a curse,” replied Valyr, not wanting to head down the rabbit hole of what Sellifer just told him in the meantime.
With that, he explained the Mark of the Alltide to her, how his spear was affected by it, as well as how he got in the first place.
Though, just as he mentioned the term ‘Mark of the Alltide’ to her, Sellifer immediately frowned, only speaking up once Valyr was done talking. “So, it’s that werebeast’s doing, huh.”
“You know the werebeast?” asked Valyr with slightly curious eyes, briefly mentioning to Sellifer that Vaughn mentioned something about it as well.
“Not only do I know the werebeast, I’ve also gone through that curse myself,” replied Sellifer, causing the frown on her face to take on hints of anger.
“That damned Clazarek, he really thinks he’d find a suitable successor this way, but all it’s brought to those affected by it is just pure suffering.”
Realizing she’d gone into an outburst of anger, Sellifer took some time to compose herself before continuing the conversation. “In any case, I have the means to suppress the curse affecting both you and the spear.”
“Now that I think about it, I should’ve already noticed you had the curse after the Void Rabbit went into a rage all of a sudden,” she continued.
“Anyways, I’ll only be able to temporarily suppress the curse while you’re fighting. To dispel it fully, you’d have to absorb the blood of the higher-ranking Tidemothers, whether you want to or not.”
“That’s fine with me.” Valyr nodded in response as he inwardly became excited for his next fight.
After all, ever since he laid his eyes upon that one certain skill, he already had the urge to make use of it to the fullest.
And now, Sellifer was giving him the platform that would allow him to use it in its full glory. After talking for a bit more, the two of them soon set off to find another opponent that was suitable for Valyr to fight against, reducing the radius of the light Sellifer held to what it was before.
While in the midst of searching for a suitable opponent, Valyr took a look at the notifications he received from killing the Void Rabbit in his mind, his eyes widening in slight surprise once he was finished going through them.
Ding!
[With a 10+ level disparity between the user and the opponent, the amount of experience obtained shall be increased by 200%.]
[You have slain a Level 102 Void Rabbit (Divine Elite). You have gained 10,336,761 XP.]
[Your Shadow Energy has improved by 287 points.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘Surpassing Mortal Bounds – Stage III’.] [You have made progress in realizing the next stage of Slayer of Ascendants (578/10,000).] Skipping over the great amount of XP he’d gained from killing the Void Rabbit, Valyr focused his attention on the amount of Shadow Energy he obtained, immediately increasing his Shadow Energy reserves to slightly over double what it was before.
Confirming Noel’s earlier words through this, the young man soon calculated that the Void Rabbit gave him over five times as much energy as the Shadow Rabbit King he killed.
At the same time, he calculated the remaining number of Void Rabbits he had to defeat if he wanted to meet the old man’s requirements to obtain Void Energy faster.
‘A new title?’ Once he was done with that, he then proceeded to look at the remaining notifications he’d received, with one of them immediately standing out to him.
‘[Surpassing Mortal Bounds]…’ inwardly muttered Valyr to himself as he brought up its description in his mind. ‘Is this similar to that [Myth-transcending Mortal] title I got?’
Wondering if this new title also had something to do with dealing a lot of damage in one hit, Valyr’s queries were soon answered as he looked at its description.
Ding!
[Surpassing Mortal Bounds – Stage III] (Title)
Rarity: Ancient
The Apparatus does not forget your roots. The Apparatus acknowledges your journey.
You, who remain within the Realm of Legendary Epics, have surmounted the gap between ranks and defeated a true being of the Realm of Ancient Myths through your own efforts. Because of this, you have been deemed a 2nd Tier Seed by the Apparatus in preparation for a new update.
‘Well, that’s one question answered,’ thought the young man to himself. ‘This title is not even close to similar to [Myth-transcending Mortal].’
‘But what’s with the title having no effect? What’s the Realm of Legendary Epics? What’s the Realm of Ancient Myths? What’s a 2nd Tier Seed? What new update is it talking about?’
As these questions lingered in the young man’s mind, Valyr thought about consulting the system for more information, as well as Vaughn if the system didn’t give him the answers he
sought.
However, the young man was forced to push such thoughts to the side for the meantime as Sellifer had found a suitable Void Rabbit to act as his opponent.
And surprisingly enough, she found one that was at the peak of Rank 5.
