Modern Demon System - Chapter 10
The grassland went silent as Andre breathed in the fresh air of the grassland in combination with the smell of gunpowder from the spent casing of the 7.62x39mm bullets. The AK-47 performed as well as he had expected, but he wasn’t sure whether the rifle was powerful enough to kill an average creature in that world. After all, all of the bullets that he fired went for the head. That kind of damage must have dealt higher damage than a standard bullet being fired to the chest.
The next stop was the [Skill] and [Stats] menus. Those two functions had only been unlocked just now. He hadn’t used that thing. He opened his menu. He opened the [Skill] menu first. He wanted to know what the menu looked like. He knew that he had at least two skills, but he figured that the system might present him with more skills that he would be able to require.
[Skills] [Skill Points Left: 2]
[Condemned Transformation Lvl.1]
[Fireball Lvl.1]
[More Skills Will Be Available With Spell Grimoire]
[User Can Add More Skill Variation as The Skills Level Up]
[Tips: Skill Points Can Be Used To Upgrade Skill or Make A New One]
Andre didn’t think that he had to upgrade one of his skills as of now. He didn’t think that he had to manage mana efficiently as of now since the basic fireball spell couldn’t be fired accurately by him. He needed to learn more about magic before he wanted to upgrade his [Fireball] skill.
In his mind, there was no use for that fireball spell since he needed to be in an extremely close range to the target itself. An assault rifle would serve him better in any combat situation. Coupled with his [Condemned Transformation], he would be able to dish out damage quicker than anything.
‘Alright, time to check out my stats,’ Andre opened the menu for his status.

[Stats]
Strength: 5 [+][-]
Agility: 4 [+][-]
Vitality: 5 [+][-]
Aptitude: 5 [+][-]
[Stats Points To Be Distributed: 5]
Andre wondered what was the purpose of those stats. There were four stats and all of them gave the basic meaning. He knew that strength was for measuring his strength, agility for measuring agility, vitality for measuring health, but he didn’t know the purpose of aptitude.
Aptitude meant natural ability to do something, but he didn’t know what was the purpose of increasing it. It could be for increasing his firearm skill, but he doubted that it was the purpose of that stat. He just distributed all of those points into Vitality since he needed more health. He closed the menu after increasing all his stats.

‘Ok, now, to test the AK, is there any target around here?’ Andre looked around the horizon for something that he could do. Something dangerous, something that required him to fire his guns.
That wish came true as Andre saw a carriage on the horizon. From where he was laying down, it looked like that the carriage was being raided. Andre couldn’t blame anyone for it, the security in the border area was usually low, even in the old world where he resides. One could expect any raiders at any time when crossing a border.
There were six marksmen on the lookout in the nearby hill. Six other bandits were attacking the carriage while holding their sharp weaponry. The marksman of that carriage was overwhelmed by the amount of fire that he retrieved from the other marksmen.
[Mission Added: Rescue Baron Damaskus]
[Reward: 100 EXP]
Andre thought about the tactic of attacking the marksmen first, he didn’t buy nor have any suppressor nor he wore his camouflage uniform. With his white shirt in the middle of the grassland, he stuck out like a sore thumb. However, he had one advantage and that was in his hardware.
The musket that the marksmen held had a lower effective range than the inaccurate AK-47 that he held. He could gain more distance from those marksmen to make their weapon ineffective against him. Still, there was another choice which was to sneak up behind those six marksmen that were hiding behind the bushes. However, combining both plans was the best course of action.
The best camouflage right now was not to attract anyone’s attention, he must not engage the enemy until he felt that the enemy was in his assault range. He stood up from the grass and he walked behind those bandits slowly.
He made sure that he was far enough from those bandits so they wouldn’t consider him a threat. If he measured the distance from the bandit, it could be concluded that he was at least one hundred meters away from the marksmen. Andre walked slowly, without making a noise.
“Hey, this one is good.” A faint voice came from the direction of the carriage.
The grassland was very quiet in general, that carriage was the only source of the sound besides the marksmen that were shooting at the carriage. Andre kept walking until he located himself right behind the hill where the marksmen were shooting.
He laid himself down on the ground and aimed his rifle at the marksmen. He must be careful, if he missed one of the marksmen, there could be a risk of them hitting Andre’s head with bullets. He adjusted the iron sight of his rifle. He adjusted the elevation and the windage of the sight itself.
‘Taking the shot,’ he switched the safety off and pulled the trigger of his rifle.
One bullet hit the marksman, but between all of those firefights between the carriage and the bandits, the marksmen couldn’t define where the shot was coming from. Andre pulled his trigger five times and hit all of the marksmen, however, one of the bullets only scratched the last marksman. He looked at Andre and he pulled his trigger.
The bullet missed by a margin. The bullet hit right beside his body. Andre switched the rifle to full auto and he pumped lead to the body of that marksman. The marksman dropped dead to the ground and Andre ran to the top of that hill. Once he arrived at the hill, he got a clearer view of the carriage down below.
The carriage was occupied by nobles, that was for sure. As evidence, the people that came out of the carriage were wearing a formal outfit. It looked like that the battle between the bandits and the carriage was over and the bandits won thanks to their superior firepower. However, Andre wasn’t done with them yet.
Although AK-47 wasn’t exactly a marksman rifle, he could pick one or two targets from a distance. It would be a good idea to start picking those bandits using his AK-47. Besides, rescuing a nobility should give him a decent amount of reputation among the nobilities in the Havarian kingdom. Andre aimed his rifle at one of the bandits. He pulled the trigger and a bullet punched right through the head of the bandit, scoring a headshot and left him for dead on the ground.
“IT’S THE HAVARIAN ARMY! PROTECT YOURSELF!” The bandit leader shouted and all of them took cover behind the hostages.
As soon as Andre pulled the trigger again, three people had been used as a human shield. The other two bandits were taking cover behind the carriage. The situation became more complicated now.
Andre didn’t think that it is a good idea to shoot the bandits from a distance. That was because of the risk that he would have if he missed. The mission could fail and he wouldn’t get any reward. The best option was to fire blindly, but certainly not in the direction of the hostages.
Andre stood up and fire his rifle randomly, the bandit spotted him. They were scared to get out of their cover because of the sheer amount of bullets that Andre could let out. No musket could fire as fast as an AK-47 on that world.
It was just a view that was only explainable by magic in the bandits’ eyes. Andre kept running to the bandit until he got close enough that he was confident that all of the bullets would hit the heads of the bandits. However
“Move closer and I will kill this baron!” A bandit shouted as he put a knife on the neck of an old man.
If Andre wanted to save them all, the path of negotiation seemed to be the best course of action. Andre knew that the bandits still wanted to live. However, a stupid bandit would be more than enough to cause chaos on his plan. After all, if that stupid and panicking bandit suddenly killed one of the hostages, their fate had been set in stone.
“Calm down fellas, it’s no use to throw your life away, isn’t it?”
