Modern Demon System - Chapter 4
Andre and the princess were in the study room of the mansion, drinking tea while talking about the last battle. This time, the princess looked like a princess instead of a knight. At least, she looked like a secretary, especially with the way that she styled her hair. Still, Andre hoped that she could answer his questions.
“Why did I summon you?” Lily asked. “Is that quite obvious by now?”
“If the case is that you need my power, good luck with that, I can’t provide it freely at any time that I want,” Andre answered.
“There was something about familiar, it was said in the book that the creature that you summoned is the creature that you really need. If you can’t provide that massive amount of power at any time, then what else are you good at?” Lily asked.
“I don’t know. I used to be a bodyguard, and a personal servant, nothing else,” Andre answered. “On the other hand, can you explain why I arrived here with this.” Andre pointed his hand at the triangular horn on his left forehead.
“Demon’s horn? Is there any problem with that?” Lily asked.
“Of course it’s a problem. I used to be a human, well, until I was bombed,” Andre said.
“I see. Well, to be honest, I’m not really in the mood of researching the why of things. Anything else that you want to know?” Lily asked.
“Your grandma said about daemonium something, is that something that I should know?” Andre asked.
“Daemonium is just a more formal term of calling demon. In your case, Unus Daemonium, or one-horned demon is a demon known to be only one-grade below the demon lord. Basically, you can be the next demon lord if you want to,” Lily said.
“How strong am I?”
“Strong enough to wipe out an army, if I call it. But still, a team of heroes can kill you,” Lily said.
“Is that the reason why your grandma so strong?” Andre asked.
“Kinda. She might have a fair share of fighting demons in the past when the humans aren’t busy fighting each other. She might encounter a one-horned demon once or twice on her entire life,” Lily said.
Lily continued explaining the demon race. It turned out that there were many races in Demon. Andre was only seconded by the demon lord himself, it was quite a surprising matter considering that familiar usually came out in a form of ancient humans or beastkin. As Andre listened, he also learned that magic could easily be learned by anyone.
“I should be leaving, I have another paperwork for me…” Lily sighed.
“What’s the matter?” Andre asked.
“I hate paperwork. Wait, you said that you were a personal servant, are you a secretary?” Lily asked.
“Secretary? Well, yes. Technically,” Andre answered.
“Great. Help me with my paperwork, will you?” Lily asked.

Andre sighed once there was a quest in his eyes. It was not like Andre wasn’t used to doing paperwork either. The president’s daughter used to take part in the administration in the country he used to serve. Well, the reason why Andre called her president’s daughter was that he also served his father before she became the president herself. He has promoted from a bodyguard to a personal assistant of the president herself.
There was a pen on Andre’s pocket without any reason, it might be from the system itself. Still, Andre wasn’t sure whether the system would add the thing that he needed into his pocket or there would be a container every time he needed an item. It could be both, still, Andre hadn’t known much about the system.
The study room of that mansion was like a library. There were a lot of bookracks filled with books of unknown origin. In the middle of the room, there was a table that people could use to read a book. On the corner of the room, there was a large table with a stack of paper and quill.
Lily was sitting on a window next to the table in the corner of the room. The cold breeze hit her white hair. “Come here Andre,” she said.
Andre came to the table with a pen in his hand. Lily was clearly never see something called a pen before. He was struct in awe as Andre started writing the after-action report in a clandestine operation style. He wrote about every accident on a minute basis. However, he only wrote what he had known.
“What is that thing? It is like a quill, but where is the ink?” Lily asked.
“Hmm? This is a pen,” Andre said as he continued writing.
“Pen? Hmm, is that another magical tool?” Lily asked.
Andre wanted to slap Lily if he wasn’t in another word. Pen was a pen, it was nothing more, nothing less. It was just a tool for writing, not a tool for fighting like the M240-Lima.
“It’s just a bloody darn pen,” Andre said.
“Damn, no need to be angry,” Lily said.
Andre continued writing as the wind breeze hit both of them. Lily made a correction every time Andre made a mistake, especially when he refers to some of the commanders in that mansion using a pronoun instead of a name. Eventually, he finished the report and asked one final question.
“Ok, what is this kingdom name?” Andre asked.
“How can you not know that? It’s Havarian kingdom,” Lily answered.
“Listen, I come here on a magic circle, getting in a battle for a cause which was unknown. And now, I became a secretary of the princess itself,” Andre said.
“I understand what you meant. Usually, familiar isn’t as smart as you, you know?” Lily said.
“What do you mean?” Andre said.
“They usually blindly follow their master, whatever they do,” Lily said.
“Technically, I follow every single order that you give, don’t I?” Andre said.
“True enough. Well, nevertheless. Finish the paperwork and put it in an envelope then stamp it.” Lily picked one envelope and lit a red candle using fire magic.
Andre put the paper into the envelope and gave it to Lily. She sealed the envelope using red wax. The stamp had the emblem of the Havarian kingdom. Lily knocked on the table and a butler came from the window of the library. He approached both of us and Lily gave him the letter.
“Ask my father for a reinforcement. We will lose this town soon. Tell that to the courier,” Lily said.
“My pleasure, your highness,” the butler said and left both of them in that studying room.

Andre went back to the couch in the library. The library smells like old paper combined with the smell of tobacco. Lily could be smoking in this palace, but well, it was just an unconfirmed possibility. Andre wondered what he could do with magic. Lily and the others kept bragging about how strong he was.
It was probably because of the last battle where Andre almost singlehandedly forced the Imperial soldiers to retreat back to the forest where they were coming from. However, Andre knew that a princess should be put on the back instead of the frontlines. It might be the king’s decision, but he would never know.
In his past experience, the president’s daughter was kinda similar to her. She was also sent to the battlefield where the shootings took place. Still, Andre couldn’t figure out what her father wanted at that time, it was weird.
“Andre, since the paperwork is done. Do you mind accompanying me to the nearest “establishment”?” Lily asked.
“Well, I have no problem with that. Why are you asking me?” Andre asked.
“Well, your outfit is kinda… out of place,” Lily said.
The camouflage uniform that resembled the color of a jungle didn’t really show any formality, but it was certainly practical if there would be another battle somewhere in the surrounding region.
“I want you to wear a butler outfit, do you mind?” Lily asked.

“Yes, let’s go,” Andre said.
“Great.”

The horse carriage was moving slowly across the dark gravel road that led to the nearby city of Vacan. The princess was sitting inside the luxurious horse carriage. It was luxurious in comparison to an average horse carriage, but it was certainly less comfortable than a vehicle that had an air conditioner.
“Your majesty, what is this place that you want to visit?” Andre asked.
“It’s weird.”
Andre frowned his face hearing that statement.
“You address me like a regular person sometimes, but you also address me like the other people. Why is that?” Lily asked.
“Your majesty, I believe that there is the right time and place for that matters,” Andre said. “Nevertheless, I will call you formally if the circumstances demand so, is that clear?”
“I see,” Lily said.
“Your majesty, where are we going?” Andre asked again.
“It is an establishment for royalty. In that place, there are some other royalties. I usually bring my personal maid, but this time, it will be special,” Lily said.
The horse carriage continued its journey to the city.
