Modern Weapon Summoning System - Chapter 200
Del’s mind was spinning around as he tried to look for an answer that didn’t expose too much of his secret while making sure that it would end up impressing him. Truth be told, impressing the demonic elf in front of him was rather difficult. Mostly because Del never had any conversation with an executive, and this executive also owned a military force.
“I also have an interest in your company and we can be mutually beneficial to each other,” Del said in his own opinion.
The woman giggled, “I appreciate your honesty, Del, but five Husnael plates are peanuts for me. You have to try harder than that. So, why should I let you in?”
Was this woman playing with him, or was this just an ordinary behavior of anyone with a corporate background? If it was a little bit of reassurance on her part, Del understood that, but it was just something he had never had before. One thing for sure, though, it was something Del didn’t have any interest in.
Del was thinking hard, “Emmmm—”
Cassandra cut him, “I think what this kid has told you would be more than enough to recruit him as a beginner in your security company. You still owe me a favor, don’t you think?” Cassandra just smiled.
Linda smiled back at her, “You know how to play your cards well, don’t you, Doctor Gable?”
“I do,” Cassandra replied.
“Very well.” Linda then looked at Del, who was still clueless about what was going on. “Relax kid, I was just playing with you. If I don’t want you, you won’t be here in the first place. Why would I invite a random kid to an expensive hotel?”
Del finally breathed in relief. If he got admitted to private security, it would mean that he would have an easier time in that world. Thinking about it, it was an outstanding deal. After all, Linda would be quite resourceful as a person.
“Cassandra has sent your file, and your sister’s file. There’s one thing that I dislike though, you both only have junior high school diploma. That thing is not something I can tolerate, per se. I want both of you to get educated. That responsibility will also be included in the contract, what do you say?”
“Well, ma’am, if you ask me honestly, I’m up for it, but I’m not sure how the curiculum works in Ilbistirum,” Del said.
“Well, Del, let’s just say that I know everything.”
Everything? So, Cassandra spilled all of the beans? What the hell? What was her intention? Del looked at her in suspicion. He wasn’t sure what this woman was trying to do. Did she try to sell Del’s soul to Linda, or did she have something else in her mind?
“Everything?” Del wanted to confirm first.
“More or less, I know you’re not from around here and I know you’re a refugee. Cassandra did say that you have a connection to an arms manufacturer,” Linda said.
Great, so she told something that Del didn’t want Linda to know with bullshit. Thank you, Cassandra. The situation would be much more complicated. Well, at the very least, Cassandra didn’t tell Linda his true origin.
“If it’s written in the file, it’s mostly true,” Del decided to play along.
“Ok, awesome. Well, if that’s the case, I’m looking forward to working with you, boy. Now, let me introduce you to the one that will personally train you.” She then looked at the bodyguard that accompanied him. “This is Walter, this is the person that will train you both in combat and in academic.”
The bald and muscular man was going to train them? Del wouldn’t lie that the man looked more muscle than brain. How could he help Del academically? That dude was literally the perfect bodyguard stereotype instead of a mentor or a teacher.
“Nice to meet you, Del Moore. I’m Walter, we will be spending our next two years together,” Walter said.
“Two years?” Del was surprised again.
“Mrs. Blake, I think it’s a good idea if you give Del the contract that you keep referring to,” Cassandra said.
“Very well, Walter, can you give Del his contract?” Linda asked.
Walter grabbed a briefcase that was put below the table. He then put a thick file on the dining table. “Please, read it, Del.” He presented the file to Del, and Del picked that file up.
The document was the contract. The contract was an agreement between Anna, Him, and Salve Group. It contained all of the things he and his sister needed to do. He opened the first page of the document.
The first page only told him about the parties involved inside of the contract. There wasn’t anything too critical on the first page. Del then opened the second page. It was filled with a bunch of financial terms that Del didn’t even understand.
However, the gobbledygook could be simplified into what Salve Group could do with the initial Husnael plates. They really covered their backs by ensuring that there would be severe consequences if Del double-crossed the company. Del was eligible for 80% of the profit that his money got. Salve Group would only be liable if the funds that Del invested lost 60% in value.
It was not that bad. From an analytical perspective, Salve Group was a defense contractor. With Ilbistirum under a civil war, it would mean that the company would keep growing as long as Ilbistirum Federal Government had enough money to pay Salve Group. Those clauses about his finances got cleared out of his mind. He then moved on to the next group of clauses.
The next group of clauses was about Del’s responsibility as a junior member of the private security. It was told that he and Anna would be under the supervision of a more senior member. In this case, the senior member was Walter. Walter would be responsible for training those two.
“Mrs. Blake, do you often recruit contractors for your private security?” Del asked since it seemed that one senior for two juniors was pretty generous for a security company.
“Well, we do get a lot of applications, but we turn it down for the most part. Why? Are you wondering why I put you two under him?” Linda asked.
“Yes, more or less.”
“It’s because Walter is a jack-of-all-trades. He isn’t exactly the best of everything, but he is certainly capable of almost everything. So, he will be a good mentor for you two,” Linda said.
“Ah, I see.” Del continued reading the contract.
The contract signified that he would have to work under Walter for around two years. Thinking about it, it was relatively reasonable. Del wouldn’t even recruit some random teenagers that suddenly rose to the top before further training. It was too risky, and recruiting big shots without training beforehand would be a recipe for disaster.
Continuing from there, there was an agreement that Del and Anna must finish their education. It really came out of nowhere. The intention was good, but how did it become included in the contract in the first place? It was a contract for becoming a member of private security, not some sort of tuition contract.
Thinking about it again, the contract might be custom-made to fit Del and Anna’s needs and background. Del doubted that any elite contractor or soldier would need that clause about education. But well, it was not like there was anything to lose if he joined an academy in Ilbistirum. Their culture didn’t differ too radically after all.
Moving on from that part, Del noticed the consequences of breaching the contract. This part would be the most important part for him. He must have a backup plan in case everything went wrong. He must have a way to get out of Salve Group.
One of the penalties was the total confiscation of any stored assets. All of the money that Del had invested would be owned entirely by Salve Group. Well, it was not bad. It wasn’t like Del didn’t have any savings inside of his account.
If he got out before the two years’ end, Del and Anna would have to pay a penalty of twenty Husnael plates. It wasn’t too bad. Most of the fines were money-based. They could get out of there quite easily.
The last part was amenities. This part described the facility that Del and Anna would get once they entered Salve Group. They would have access to their own house and several benefits of being an employee with Salve Group. He would be eligible for free health care and free education. He would also be given funds at the beginning of each month to compensate for his living expenses.
“So, I just have to sign here?” Del asked.
“Yes,” Walter gave his pen to Del.
Del signed that piece of paper, and the deal was closed. He would be working with Salve Group from now on.. Hopefully, the most dangerous kind of job was not entering another poisoned town.
