Monster Farmer In A Different World - Chapter 7 Paying Off The Loansharks
“The trick to capturing them is this: although they can run as fast as a normal rabbit, they can’t jump! Wahahahaha! So you just stand on a small hill or rock, get their attention and when they run at you and try their best to jump and stab you and fail, you just capture them easily with the MoCap Pearl!”
“Ah! So it’s like that…”
“Wahahahaha!”
They reach the porch with Thak just finishing pouring the tea for everyone. Alten took out a gold coin and looked at it, resisting the urge to bite the coin to test if it’s real. On one side is written kingdom of Henyun and on the other is a picture of an unknown flower.
“Say, what kinda flower is this?”
“Ohohohoho, that is a qi flower. You can increase your qi level if you ingest one of this flower.”
“What?!! Qi exist in this world? Have our story turned into a xianxia or wuxia novel?”
“Ohohohoho, relax Alten. Qi is also called mana, or magic. So for magic users it can increase their mana or magic pool. Although… there are some martial artist in here in Henyun, as well as in the kingdoms of Dawn who uses Qi skill. Shooting Qi out of their palm is a common occurences.”
“Oh, ok.”
Alten heaved with relief, before his eyes turned into huge saucers when he heard the last part.
“Right, I gotta go back to town and make some money there with these here Psychic Sparrow. Later guys!”
“Ok, cya!”
“Bye!”
Alten and Thak took a seat at the porch and started sipping the tea while watching Chunyang ride his wagon slowly out of the farm.
‘Hmmm, somehow i feel like i forgotten something. Ah! I forgot to test the Psychic Sparrow’s shared vision power! Ah well, i still have 2 more eggs, I guess i’ll test it out next time.’
“So what do you plan to do now?”
“Hmm, I gotta go back to my world and pay off my loans. I have mountains of debt back there…” replied Alten sheepishly.
“Ohohoho, good luck!”
After Alten finished his tea he stood up and activated the AR farming menu.
“Menu.”

— A certain postman point of view ——-
Today, John Connor the local postman was assigned to a route that deliver letter to the farm.
He had almost forgotten about the event that happened about a week ago; an event that had traumatized him for a couple of days. He took a day off and visited a psychiatrist who managed to convinced John that he had overworked, and the event was the result of him overactive mind imagining things. So next day after his visit he went back to work, and for the next few days things seem to settle down. Of course, this was because he was assigned to another delivery route… until today.
Everything seems to be going normal, until that afternoon when he reach the farm called ‘Happy Tree Farm’. He just finished putting the bank forfeiture mail into the letterbox when he felt a slight breeze slowly getting stronger, looked up and saw lightning flickering in in the middle of the yard.
A man suddenly appeared in a flash of blue light in the middle of the yard in front of the farmhouse of Happy Tree Farm. The man put both arms in the air and yelled ‘Hasta la vista, bebeh!” Then the man ran into the farmhouse.
John took out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep drag and slowly exhaled the smoke, lit his mail bag on fire and threw it into a bin, walk towards the mail truck slowly, got in and drove into the city to set up an appointment with the psychiatrist again…

‘Hasta la vista, bebeh!” Alten yelled in pure joy at the thought of finally being able to pay off the loan shark and his bank loan. He then ran into the house and booted his computer. Doing a Google map search for the nearest goldsmith in town and after noting it down, he grabbed his car keys and quickly drove towards it while occasionally clutching the bag of coins in excitement.
He arrived in less than 10 minutes and quickly got into the store.
“Hi there! I’m Alten! Do you buy gold?”
A young man wearing glasses looked at Alten, and replied.
“Hi, I’m Mark. Sure do; we sell and buy both gold and works of gold. Depending on weight and purity, it’ll be $30 to $40 per gram. So what will you be selling?”
“This!”
Alten opened the bag and poured the gold coin onto the table.
“These… these are exquisite!” Mark then took a scale and stacked all 18 gold coins on it.
“They come up to 540 grams… hmmm, I can give you $20,000 for all of them. Is this acceptable?”
“Wh-wh-WHAT?! Ok! Sure, thanks!”
Mark raised his eyebrow for a second in surprise. ‘He didn’t even try to haggle’
“How do you like to be paid? Would you like that directly transferred into your bank account, Paypal, Bitcoin, or cash?”
“Bank account please! And here’s my bank account no.”
Alten opened up the Barclays mobile banking app and set to receive payments. Mark then swiped his phone against Alten’s to complete the contactless payment, then asked Alten to check his balance. Alten confirmed the money has been deposited in his current account.
“$20,008.39… yep, it’s in. Thanks very much! I’ll be going off now.”
Alten smiled and started walking out of the store.
“Thank you, come again!” Said Mark and the rest of the employee.
‘These coin will surely fetch a high price at the auctions!’ Mark mused in joy.
———-
Alten opened his contact list and scrolled down to the name ‘Bloodsucker’, and dialed.
“Alten, you son of a biotch! Where’s my payment! Don’t make me send my goons to break some bones!”
“Heya boss Christopher, heh heh don’t worry, I got your money right here! I’m sending it into your account right now as we speak!”
“Oh yeah?! It better make it worthwh… what the hell? $10,000? So you been holding out on me all these while, biotch?!”
“No no no! I just got into a lucky inheritance, and that’s all I got! Honest!”
“Another one? Hehe, you and your inheritance. Anyways, I’ll let you off this week, you still owe me $300,000 so you better work hard!”
“What the hell?! Wasn’t it only 200,000 a couple of months ago? How the hell did it get so high?!”
“Muahahaha! Compounded interest, biotch! Now shut up and get to work, and get me my money!”
“Haiz… yes boss…”
Alten turned off the phone and cursed “Shit! Damn Bloodsucker!”
Alten vented for a bit, then calmed down, and opened his contact list and scrolled down to the name ‘Legalized Bloodsucker’, and dialed.
“Alten! Where did you disappear to? Your farm is really in danger now, do you know? Your loan has long went past Arrears and are now in Non Performing Loan status… you’re about 1 step away from having your farm taken away you know?!”
“Hi boss Hiew! I’m ready to make payments, it should be coming in now!”
“Wh – whaat! $10,000! Where did you get this money from? Weren’t you having problems with your farm? You – you didn’t rob a bank did you?”
“Relax boss-man! This is all legit. Anyways I gotta, go. What’s my total loan again?”
“Ummm, let me check… around $650,000. You sure you got this money through legal means?”
“Yes, yes! Don’t worry about it, sigh. Talk to ya next week!”
Alten clenched his fist and whooped and got some weird looks from passerby. He grinned and quickly got into his car, driving towards the nearest pub for some good old Guiness action. Halfway there he suddenly yelled “FARK!” when he realized he had not saved any money, having spent all of it to pay off the loans. He turned the car around and drive as fast as possible back to his farm, cursing all the way…
