Monster MMORPG: Mayhem Online - Chapter 128
—-Jump!
“Shura!!”
Everyone shouted when they saw Shura jump directly towards the lava.
‘Has he gone insane?’
If he wanted to suicide, why did he even save uuch thoughts flashed across the team’s minds before they were answered.
Shura, who had jumped, didn’t fall down, instead he started floating in the air as the cape he was wearing started fluttering.
It seems he wasn’t as suicidal as they had thought!
The Wanderer’s cape allowed Shura to float midair, but that was about it. It was a ‘float’ skill rather than a ‘fly’ skill. So he couldn’t go any higher than he had jumped, and he could only slowly move around in directions that he wanted to.
It was similar to floating in water with the help of a tube, in this case the tube was the wanderer’s cape.
—-Khwaaak!
The serpent opened its large mouth, showing its deadly canines and sharp teeths, just metres away from Shura.
“Ugh! You should brush your teeth more often.”
Shura commented as he made a grossed face, and took out two spears.
[Blade Throwing]
A passive skill that was his class related instead of Eclipse related.
Shura charged both the spears tip with his mana and threw it straight towards the monster’s mouth.
Unlike his bad shooting skills with ether bullets, blade throwing allowed him to throw anything that had a sharp edge to it, more accurately.
—-Chkk! Chkk!
Both the spears entered the monster’s open mouth and directly pierced its soft palate.
—-Ounnnghh!!
The monster cried out in pain as it bit down sharply on the spears stuck inside his mouth, breaking them both without much effort as it turned around and hit Shura’s face with its tail.
Shura went flying and directly hit the cliff that was in front of the lava river.
—-Crack! Crumble!
“What the fuck are you guys doing? Attack it.”
Grant shouted as all the mages, archers and knights used whatever long ranged skills that they had.
—-Ounghh!!
The monster cried out as its skin started getting torn and its HP visibly depleted.
On the other hand, Shura’s health had hit 50% with a single strike as he was stuck inside the cliff’s crater.
He felt like his skull was on the verge of breaking, and the impact on his face had dislocated his jaw.
—-Crack! Crack!
He moved his jaw which cracked on even a slight movement, and he couldn’t help but feel immense pain.
“Fucking shithead.”
Shura cursed as he took out a bottle of HP potion and gulped it down, his HP recovering in an instant and all his broken bones fixed on the spot.
Shura decided to use the crater as a high point boost to attack the serpent.
He checked and realised that he had enough mana, so he shouted towards grant.
“Grant!”
“Yes? Yes Shura!”
Grant reflexively looked up to the hill where Shura was pasted onto.
“When I give the signal, use your taunt again. I’m gonna KO this motherfucker in one hit.”
“What?!”
[A/N: KO = Knockout]
Grant felt like he had heard something wrong. Even after all their efforts, the monster’s HP was only depleted by a third.
‘What do you mean you’ll KO it in a single hit?’
Everyone reflexively looked at Shura, who had uttered an absurd statement.
“The fuck are you looking at? Keep it busy and wait for my signal.”
Shura said as he scowled.
The others didn’t know but he knew.
[Weak spot has been detected.]
[The next attack will deal additional damage.]
Shura could clearly see the monster’s weak spot, marked by a red target logo by the system, just a bit below its head.
Shura started channelling mana inside his palm in a vortex shape, and chunks and chunks of mana from the atmosphere and inside his body started circling around his hand and started getting bigger.
Shura’s signature elemental vortex strike, the first ever magic that he created.
But this time around, there was no fire or water element mixed in, instead, the vortex started turning into a light purple colour as a dangerous aura could be felt from the vortex itself.
The small vortex kept growing bigger and bigger, before Shura shouted.
“Now!”
Grant didn’t hesitate anymore and told everyone to stop attacking the monster as he used his taunt skill.
Instead of rushing towards Grant, it stopped midair and closed its mouth shut as heat started generating around its mouth.
“Fuck! It’s gonna use another breadth attack.”
Someone from the team shouted the obvious as everyone was scared shitless.
Shura looked at everyone and judged that he won’t be able to use another mana barrier due to all the mana depletion on the vortex itself.
But he also judged that they won’t need another mana barrier.
All the wildly circulating purple coloured mana around his hand was aimed straight towards the monster who was also preparing for its own ultimate attack without moving.
‘You’ve just become an easier target.’
[Ether Vortex Lv4]
A vortex made out of the Ether element that Shura’s bullets consisted of. It was like an Ether bullet, but much bigger and more disastrous.
“Pew!”
Shura whistled as he released the suppressed vortex strike straight at the monster’s weak spot.
Before the monster could even complete its breath attack, its head was separated from its body as both its head and body fell into the lava.
[Congratulations! You have defeated the hidden boss ‘Flying Serpent’!]
[You have gained 235 EXP!]
[You have gained ‘400’ dungeon points.]
[You have gained ‘Fire Staff’.]
[You have gained ‘Serpent Leather’.]
‘”Yesss!”‘
Everyone cheered as they saw the unexpected happen. They were saved and even ended up killing the monster, gaining raid rewards in the process. They couldn’t be happier about it.
“NOOOOOO!!!!”
Shura’s devastated shout shut down everyone’s excitement as they saw Shura holding his head like he had just lost the world.
They didn’t know what he had lost but he knew.
‘A boss monster’s heart! A FUCKING BOSS MONSTER’S HEART! HOW CAN IT JUST BURN OUT LIKE THAT!’
The corpse of the Flying Serpent had fallen into the lava and immediately disintegrated into ashes, robbing Shura of his monster heart and a chance of evolution.
His metamorphosis index was already at 68%, and there was a high chance that the Flying Serpent could have filled a large part of it.
But alas.
Shura’s disappointment was immeasurable and his day was ruined.
He jumped down the crater he was struck and his head was all sloppy as he couldn’t get over the sadness.
The bunch of people that he had saved? They were looking at him worriedly, unable to make out just why he was so sad about defeating a boss monster.
***
‘”HAHAHAHAHA!”‘
“Fuck! Not gonna lie, now even I am starting to like him!”
“Well, he is quite the character.”
The whole audience was currently laughing as they saw Shura’s misery. They were well aware just why Shura was so sad, unlike the people he had saved. And they couldn’t help but find it funny.
“Aww, poor Shura.”
The girls sympathised with him, yet still couldn’t control their smile. In the last few hours of Shura’s gameplay, people had gotten to know a lot more about Shura and even people who were straight out disliked him or were hostile to him couldn’t help but find him amusing.
The amount of tricks that he possessed up his sleeve never failed to surprise the audience. When they saw Crestfallen abandoning his team like they were disposable, they couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
It wasn’t like the audience wasn’t aware of Crestfallen’s selfish and braggy nature. They just couldn’t help but be disappointed that he was staying true to his character.
But the actual fun began when Shura appeared in front of his team with his hands of salvation. His smokey entrance was already recorded and turned into music videos and cool edits that had garnered hundreds and thousands of views within a matter of minutes.
Truly, in this modern world, only people who were fast enough to make their own opportunities were the ones that gained a lot of money.
[And this marks the 12 hours inside the game!]
The host, Sam, announced with enthusiasm as the audience cheered.
By this time, most of the capsules inside the stadium were empty. Only about 700-800 players were remaining as the event reached its interval.
People couldn’t help but anticipate the climax.
The players that stood out in all this were undeniably Shura, Iqol, Abel, Rad, Elexis, Malaika and the others. They were the true top players of Mayhem which weren’t just bound by the concept of levels.
Each of them possessed stats that were abysmal and skills that far surpassed the other players.
In the audience, the other 6000 players who got logged out were also included.
Drill, who was in the player specific area watching Shura’s advancement, couldn’t help but feel bitter.
In Mayhem, he was proud of his achievement as a top player, but the difference between him and the true top players was something that just made him feel like another ordinary player.
‘I’m gonna catch up to you.’
Drill resolved himself.
He wanted to catch up to Shura. Not for revenge or anything of the like, but just because he wanted to join Shura’s side. He felt like he’d see a world he had never seen if he was by Shura’s side.
And for that, he needed to become someone that doesn’t disappoint him again.
He didn’t know that at this very moment he himself and a good part of the audience was slowly siding with Shura and becoming his fan.
