Moonlight Ball - Chapter 99
“M, maid?” Iris asked questioningly. The woman in front of her was her stepsister, Margaret. Iris couldn’t fathom how Margaret had become her maid.
Elena softly grabbed Iris’s hand, “Yes, Your Majesty. Nowadays, people are all speaking of your name so there are many things happening. So, I picked two more maids and one of them is Rosaline En Taberine.”
The black headed beauty bowed elegantly. Iris nodded.
“The other is Margaret En Surah. Both of them helped a lot in the treatment centre.”
The position Elena was talking about was an official maid. In En Letaire palace, there were two types of maids. Maids that attended to Iris in public places were all nobles. For Iris, who was shy and didn’t really attend public events, these were people that she would barely see. But, as a lady who didn’t know about this, Margaret was very excited.
The servants from the Duke Sethang family had showed up to the place she was staying. They were the men that threw her out the other day, but they acted differently today. The Duchess is waiting, they announced. She was put in a carriage that bore the Duke Sethang’s symbol. It was enormous, intricate, and most comfortable. Inside, the Duchess’s head of maids was seated, and she looked like she was going to cause trouble, but she was very polite.
Margaret felt like she became a child of Duke Sethang.
When she arrived with the carriage, the well-dressed Duchess was waiting for her. It was obvious, but the head of maids got off first and she had to get off as well.
”You’re late,” said the duchess as she got on the carriage. Rosaline En Taberine tailed after her. She was probably the second daughter of the Count Taberine. Even though they were the same counts, their situation was completely different. Margaret had to sit behind Rosaline.
The Duchess spoke calmly. “I’m going to recommend you two as the maids of the Queen. It is my recommendation so you will definitely become the maids. The Queen is very kind but also very intelligent so please behave yourself.”
Margaret almost flew off the carriage, but she held her dress and calmed down. Rosaline En Taberine, who was sitting across from her, simply said thank you as if she deserved it. The best moment of her life was like nothing to someone else.
I’ll soon be like that too. Margaret was certain.
“Nice to meet you. Miss Taberine… Miss Surah.”
Iris greeted them as she had no choice, and the maids around her looked surprised at the Queen. They were all noble ladies. Their senses were top notch. They could feel the Queen, who had changed since the Haran’s river incident, was being especially awkward to the child of the Count Surah.
“Do we really need two new people?” Marchioness Lasian asked.
She didn’t know what Duchess Sethang was trying to do now but it started to bother her. The Queen was shy, and she was blatantly uncomfortable with the Count Surah’s girl. What was the reason for having that garbage around the Queen? Marchioness Lasian this time lifted her head, thinking that she won’t back down this time. Elena laughed then.
“Rose,” she called Rose En Lasian in a friendly tone.
“Yes, Elena?”
“We need more people, really.”
There was a pretty flower on Elena’s face. Rose immediately knew that that flower was poisonous. She didn’t know what Elena was planning, but she felt like it was going to be something really entertaining.
Rose En Lasian. The queen bee of the noble society with Elena smiled.
“I wish to speak to you alone, Elena.”
Elena spread her fan open as she saw Rose getting up. She didn’t really have any intention of sharing her plan with Rose.
“If it’s to ruin that wench, I like that plan. Then our Queen will become comfortable. I’d like to be part of it,” said Rose. It was obvious she wanted to be part of Elena’s scheme; she desired to be part of the Queen’s closest circle.
Elena frowned and mumbled displeasingly, “If you insist.”
Let’s ruin that young wench and her family, and then I’ll take care of you. Elena’s eyes burned with passion, and Rose smiled brightly at her.
While the duchess and the marchioness faked smiles at each other, Margaret luckily had a chance to sit right in front of the Queen. She was holding a bunch of documents that needed signing. A rushing servant had given her the papers, saying it was urgent, and immediately disappeared.
“Ah, I will do it.”
It was Countess Mutario who intercepted. She was the wife of Retendon En Mutarion, one of the queen’s circle. An important subordinate. There was no other Duchess and a Marchioness was there, but she had less power than Countess Mutarion.
That b*tch stole my chance?!
