Mr. President Do You Mind If I Fall In Love With You? - Chapter 62
“Don’t say that. I thought my Little Amber will understand me.”
Amber was the princess of this household, and everyone took priority of her. For Little Amber, the sudden news about the baby would threaten not only her position within the family but also her share of her parents’ love and attention.
When Hero finished dinner, he rose to his feet and offered a hand to his wife. Luna was confused by his actions but accepted his offer nonetheless. As she stood up from the table, Hero released her and picked up his child. However, Little Amber refused.
Instead, she ran towards Luna and hugged her leg tightly.
“Amber Li! Do not test my patience!” He lifted her up from her seat, and Little Amber struggle in his hold and screamed her frustrations at the top of her lungs.
“Don’t, Hero. It’s alright.” Luna snatched Little Amber from him, and the girl buried her head in Luna’s embrace.
Luna’s heart ached as she heard the girl sob in her arms, with her body trembling in fear towards her father. Her temper rose again seeing the girl like this.
“Hero Li, I know Little Amber isn’t mine and I’m only just her stepmother; but don’t you dare raise a hand at her! I already said this, but she’s still a child. She needed love and patience more than ever. How can you be so harsh towards your own child? Don’t make me regret marrying you!” She spat out, her face was full of disapproval.
Luna didn’t know if it was caused by her mood swings because, normally, she’d never dare to raise her voice to anyone—especially to her boss. However, she was glad that she was able to give him a piece of her mind, or she might forever regret not standing up for Little Amber.
Hero was stunned for a moment before the end of his lips lifted.
“Fine. Since my wife said I’m wrong, then it’s my fault. Whatever my wife says is right.”
“Don’t cry. Mommy will always be with you from now on.” Luna wiped the tears from Amber’s face. “Our Little Amber wasn’t getting younger, and soon she’ll grow up as a lady. However, I hope she won’t forget that even if she grew up, she’ll always be her Mommy’s baby.” Luna pinched the girl’s cheek lightly, making Little Amber smile.
When they arrived upstairs Luna put Little Amber to bed, coaxing her to sleep while Hero leaned his back at the doorway, watching the two women in his life.
Luna fought hard not to roll her eyes. Couldn’t he even take a moment to look after his own child?
Once Little Amber had fallen asleep, the two slipped out of her room silently. Before her husband could walk away, Luna bit her lip and took all the courage she had to apologize to him.
“Hero, I’m sorry for saying those words earlier. I know… I know I don’t have any right to teach you how to raise Amber.” She scratched her head, feeling awkward.
His wife would most likely spoil his daughter to death, but he could only hope that she’d be able to correct Little Amber’s bad habits along the way.
“It should be me who should apologize to you, Luna. You marry me and have to deal with a child who isn’t even yours. As you probably already know, my first wife died in childbirth so Amber grew up without a mother to look over her.” He casually glanced at Little Amber’s closed door.
“No, no. It’s fine.” Luna was surprised by his apology. It was rare for her to see her husband like this. Seeing him like this, how could he blame Hero for Little Amber’s upbringing?
“Follow me, I have something to discuss with you.” Hero offered his hand again which she accepted.
Hero led her to his study. He released her hand and checked one of the bookshelves within the room before pulling four thick photo albums from it.
“I hope you don’t think Amber as a nuisance to our marriage,” he started. “Although my marriage with her mother was arranged and there was no love between us, we respected each other. She dearly loved Amber and wanted to meet her, but she wasn’t able to make it.”
Luna opened the first photo album, and her eyes were greeted with Amber’s newborn pictures. She thought that even as a newborn Little Amber was so adorable anyone would have a hard time resisting her charm.
“Oh my gosh, is this Amber? She’s really a cutie. I hope our babies will be as cute as her,” Luna said with twinkling eyes, making her husband chuckle.
“Babies? Is this mean you wouldn’t mind making more with me?” He teased her. “Don’t worry now that we’re married, I’ll surely help you anytime you wish to have a baby.”
He smiled slightly enjoying how her eyes sparkled whenever she saw photos of Little Amber in cute dresses and costumes.
“Amber is a lovely child but a sad one. I never considered her a nuisance. In fact, I’m really glad that she’s your child. You don’t know how lonely and scared Amber was when I first met her in the hospital.”
Luna smiled at the memory. She and Amber really got along well, and the girl not throwing tantrums and fit frequently was good news for Hero.
“Do you mean it?” Hero was wondering how Luna was taking this easily. Had it been another woman, she’d probably ask him to get rid of Amber or send her away to another relative to raise.
“Of course, I married you didn’t I? You were able to help me to save Julian, having Amber as my daughter is just a bonus.” She winked at him.
