Mr. President Do You Mind If I Fall In Love With You? - Chapter 68
Looking at father and daughter, Luna wondered what could’ve happened in the past for Little Amber to treat Hero this way. It was as if the two could not stay in the same room without Little Amber glaring at her father.
Thinking about it, Joanna once told her that an incident about Little Amber being kidnapped before had caused the rift between the two. However, she couldn’t just demand her husband to explain what had really happened back then.
“I have no idea Amber’s day could be so…” Hero tried to find the right words but failed. Spending the whole day with his daughter, he couldn’t believe that girl was able to stay active with him, running around his greenhouse while he tended to his plants.
“You think she’s weak? Hero, you really don’t know your own child then.” Luna giggled as she watched Hero slumped next to her on the couch.
“Has this happened before?” Hero asked, and she burst into laughter.
“You really don’t have an idea of how to look after her, do you?” she asked back, “Small as they are, kids could turn your house upside down if left unattended.”
She didn’t think that Hero had spent enough time with his daughter to know what she liked and did not. Little Amber was not only interested in painting but also in baking. She’d seen how eager the girl was to learn how to make cookies and cupcakes.
Little Amber followed shortly, with Fluffy on tow. Luna ġrȯȧnėd as she saw how dirty that little girl and her dog were. Both were standing at the front door, not daring to step inside with their dirty soles and paws.
“Fluffy, did you play with the mud again?” she grumbled. His pure white fur was matted with dirt and mud, which would be hard to clean.
Luna walked towards them and brought the two to the bathroom near the kitchen. With Little Amber’s nanny’s help, Luna was able to clean the little girl and her dog faster.
After her bath, Little Amber was able to take a nap on her own, leaving Luna to dry and groom Fluffy back to his clean prestige.
The first two weeks of living with Hero and Amber weren’t so bad at all. While she wasn’t allowed to visit her brother at the hospital, Hero was strict to remind her of her condition. Luna thought that her life had been thrown in a whirlwind since she met this man, and there were drastic changes not only with her new living arrangement but also on her mother and brother’s welfare.
Still, it was nice to know that she wouldn’t have to worry about when her next meal was going to be or where she would get the money she needed to pay for the hospital bills that continue to rise for every day that passed.
Today was her second appointment with her doctor, and her husband was kind enough to take her to it.
“Calm down. Why are you so worried? It is just a normal checkup.” His voice rang through her head as she waited for this day to come. For Hero, it might be a normal checkup; but Luna wanted him to be as involved in this pregnancy as her.
“Luna?” Hero’s voice dragged her back to the present as her head whipped around to look into a set of concerned onyx eyes and impassive face.
“Yes?” she blinked a few times, shocked at how she ended up too close to her husband.
Hero had already stepped out of the car with Amber in his arms while she was still sitting in his passenger seat in a daze.
“We’re here,” he replied as he offered a hand to her.
“Oh,” Luna took his hand as he pulled her gently out of the car. She quickly buried her hands in her side pockets as mere touching him was enough for her to feel the sparks between them. What the hell was that? Luna wondered.
The family of three walked into the doctor’s office. Soon, Luna was left sitting nervously in the waiting room, trying to ignore the chills washing over her at the moment. Hero grabbed her hand and gave her a confused look.
“Are you sure you want this?” she suddenly voiced out her frustration to her husband.
“Why wouldn’t I want my own child?” Hero asked her confusedly, but a thought crossed his mind. He couldn’t even be considered as a good father to Little Amber. No wonder his wife was having doubts about this pregnancy.
Luna chewed her lip. Did he want it because the baby would be his heir or that the baby was his?
As if knowing what she was thinking, Hero narrowed his eyes to her.
“I want the baby not because it would inherit our family business. I want this baby and you. I want to have a family with you with Amber and the baby,” he explained.
Luna’s eyes started to water. Large brown eyes filled with tears looked up to Hero… with happiness and uncertainty. Happiness because her husband was willing to make this marriage work with her and uncertainty because she still couldn’t comprehend what she felt for him.
“Why do you always cry?” Hero sighed as he wiped her cheeks dry while Little Amber paid attention closely to her Mommy and Daddy. This was the first time she’d seen her Daddy care for other people aside for himself.
Little Amber had always thought that her daddy didn’t love her nor care for her. Daddy was always away for work, and he bȧrėly checked on her. When she was kidnapped by bad people, strangers were the first ones to rescue her and not her daddy.
However, ever since Mommy Luna came to the scene, her daddy was always at home at night, having dinner with her and Mommy.
“I was born and raised as an heir, groomed to be perfect in everyone’s eyes. I don’t want to raise Amber and our baby like that. They deserve so much better than to live based on someone’s expectation, don’t you think?”
Luna could sympathize with him. When she was brought to the Jiang Mansion, the Jiang family set high expectations for her and Julian to follow. Neither of them had a good relationship with their fathers.
Hero’s father abandoned him and his siblings, taking all the money of their investors and putting Hero and their family into shame and bankruptcy while her own father had disregarded her and Julian.
“You wouldn’t hate the baby? You wouldn’t forget about him or her?” Luna asked in a shaky voice.
As a child, she never knew what it felt to have a father. Throughout her childhood, she only had her mother to look after her and Julian. When she first met Stephen Jiang, his eyes were filled with disgust as he looked at her and her brother. It was as if he didn’t consider them as his children.
“You aren’t going to toss my baby aside, are you? ‘Cause if you do, let’s have a divorce right now. I rather leave now than to cause him or her pain in the future.” Luna rubbed her lower abdomen, feeling a small lump inside her. She wondered what kind of mother she would be.
Being pregnant was totally new for her. It was a new experience where she didn’t know what to expect. Aside from being huge, Luna had a little idea of what usually happened in pregnancy. She made a mental note to call her mother for advice.
It was still weird to her to think that she was now Hero’s wife and not Jasper’s, weird that she had a baby growing inside her; it was even Hero’s baby. Having a one-night stand with a stranger and getting pregnant from it were certainly not the way Luna planned or the ideal way to get pregnant.
“Of course not. Luna Jiang, I’ll make this clear to you. You aren’t allowed to divorce me! I will never abandon you and the baby. How could I hate the baby, especially when a part of him came from you?” His eyes bore down into her.
She wasn’t certain what to think about her situation, but the thought of having a baby wasn’t appalling to her. The truth was… she was excited and nervous to see her baby.
She let out a low laugh. “How sure are you that it will be a boy?”
Hero shrugged and watched a pregnant woman step out of the room.
“I just know I’ll have a son soon.”
Luna rubbed her lower abdomen again. Pregnant. The thought of it was terrifying and exciting at the same time. Perhaps, unlike her own father, Hero would be able to become a father this time. She could also see that he was starting to mend his broken-slash-nonexistent bond towards Amber, and that was enough to make Luna happy.
When she heard her name being called by the nurse, Hero released her hand as they entered the room together.
