Ms. CEO is His Bodyguard - Chapter 46
As the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Xia Corporation, Xia Jiannan was expected to be present at every board meeting.
But because of what happened at Hao Hua’s parking lot, Xia Jiannan mistook Wang Rouxi’s car as his and consequently failed to attend the board meeting.
Without the Chairperson to lead, the Board of Directors did not have much of a choice but to cancel the meeting yesterday.
However, this course of action ignited the ire of the other board members who were on the opposite side.
These people were trying to find faults on Xia Jiannan. They had long been wanting to oust him from his position as the Chairman of the Board.
And what happened yesterday gave these shameless money-grubbers something to nitpick on.
But Secretary Cheng could not actually tell them that Xia Jiannan went missing that’s why he was absent. That would only give rise to internal strife.
If they got wind of that news, those board members would motion to have Xia Jiannan replaced without missing a single beat.
They would not even care if Xia Jiannan was dead or alive.
This was the reason why Secretary Cheng almost mobilized the whole Xia Family’s security to search for Xia Jiannan.
Fortunately, the CEO was sent back home safe and sound.
However, Secretary Cheng still felt restless as though something might happen again if he would turn his head away from Xia Jiannan.
“The latest report of this month shows a slight increase in the net…” Secretary Cheng started his recount of the recent happenings in the Xia Corporation as they were heading out of the mansion.
Di Yi and Di Er were trailing behind them silently.
As soon as they were out of the mansion, Driver Shao went over and opened the car door for Xia Jiannan. “A pleasant morning, First Young Master!”
Xia Jiannan nodded his head in acknowledgement, a contemplative expression on his face as he looked at Driver Shao, then he said to him: “You can have this day off.”
With his two bodyguards, Di Er could serve as the driver while Di Yi would be in charge of his safety.
After he had said his piece, Xia Jiannan boarded the car, not bothering to explain himself.
Driver Shao could only look at Secretary Cheng for confirmation and for further instructions as he did not know what to do.
“Do as the Boss says, Brother Shao.”
“But—” Driver Shao tried to reason but he was cut off by Secretary Cheng.
“You have to accompany Qing’er for her monthly checkup, right? You should make use of this opportunity and take the day off.”
When his daughter Qing’er was mentioned, Driver Shao revealed a worried expression before he reluctantly agreed to the CEO’s arrangement.
After dealing with Driver Shao’s matter, Secretary Cheng then turned to Di Yi and Di Er. “Who will drive the car?”
Without thinking twice, Di Yi stepped forward to get to the driver’s seat. “I got it.”
Secretary Cheng nodded his head and was about to enter the backseat when Xia Jiannan stopped him.
“Passenger’s seat.”
Secretary Cheng had no other choice but to swap seats.
At this time, Di Yi had already started the engine of the car and he was looking at Xia Jiannan through the rearview mirror, waiting for his instructions.
“Switch.”
Upon hearing that, Di Yi went out of the car and moved at the backseat. Subsequently, Di Er took his place as the driver.
When everyone had already settled, Di Er set out to Xia Corporation’s main company building.
On the way there, Secretary Cheng on the passenger’s seat could not keep still as he held the report in his hand.
He did not tell Xia Jiannan about the castigation of the board members so as to not distract him while preparing for the meeting.
As he was thinking of a way to have Xia Jiannan finish reading through the report, a cold voice came from the backseat: “Hand it over.”
Secretary Cheng was surprised, but he immediately passed the tablet to Xia Jiannan.
Xia Jiannan leaned back in his seat as he skimmed through the report, his right hand rubbing his temples.
New candidates for the directorate positions, annual budget reports…
After a short while, Xia Jiannan stopped reading through the report, shutting his eyes close.
He could not clearly see what he was reading right now. The words were blurry and he could hardly make them out no matter how much he squinted his eyes.
“Let me.” That clear, distinct voice said at his left side.
Xia Jiannan did not think too much about it, handing the tablet over to Di Yi.
Upon receiving the tablet, Di Yi started reading at the beginning of report, without missing a single word.
And just like that, Xia Jiannan was lulled to sleep by Di Yi’s soothing voice.
Xia Jiannan probably did not even realize that he had fallen asleep while listening to Di Yi reading the report.
After some time, his head had unknowingly dropped against Di Yi’s shoulder, but the latter continued to read the report aloud.
“The Xia Corporation will be having a joint venture with the Lu Corporation for the Project XXX…”
