Mutant Farmer in The Apocalypse - Chapter 79
Little Ivy threw the rock, and it launched. The rock accidentally hit one red floating dandelion fluff, and Yang Zhang’s widened his eyes in shock.
BOOM!
The rock triggered a chain reaction from one red seed to another, one red seed exploded. The rest of the floating seed also did the same, creating a big explosion with a loud noise, loud enough for Yang Zhang to close his eyes and ears because he was shocked.
After the explosion subsided, Yang Zhang looked at the air that turned red, Yang Zhang wondered what would happen if he stood inside the area of the red air, but he was quite sure it would hurt him badly.
“Daniella, what’s the effect of the red air after the explosion?”
“Dii, Dii!”
“I see. So you’re saying that the red air has a pepper spray effect that would hurt anyone’s eyes who walked past it, but it’s not really effective to zombies, right?”
“Dii!”
Yang Zhang nodded. He understood that the pepper spray effect wouldn’t affect zombies because they didn’t need their eyes to see. Even blind, the zombies could always rely on their hearing to detect your movement.
“So the pink air is for the zombies, and the red air is for non-zombies, that’s great!” Yang Zhang said. He hugged Daniella again, “You’re great, Daniella!”
“Dii~ Dii~” Daniella looked proud of herself. She was very happy when the one who complimented her was Master Yang Zhang.
“Is there any time limit of how many floating seeds you can produce?” Yang Zhang asked.
“Dii!”
“For each color, you need to charge per 6 hours? Okay, that’s actually not that bad!” Yang Zhang nodded. “Anyway, we’re going on an adventure today. Do you want to join?”
“Dii! Dii!”
“Alright, to the adventure it is!” Yang Zhang said, and his stomach suddenly rumbled. “Okay, we’ll go on an adventure after we have our breakfast, hehe.”
**
Yang Zhang was eating breakfast with his pets. His plants were rooting in their pot and basked under the morning sun, while Chestnut and Spicy Wing were busy eating their own fill.
After he was done eating, he checked his mutated potted plants, Poddie, Little Ivy, and Daniella.
“Okay, are you guys done basking under the sun?”
“Pii!”
“Vii!”
“Dii!”
Yang Zhang smiled and picked their pots one by one to put them on the table because he was afraid that there might be a wild animal outside that might hurt them.
“Okay, gang, do all of you want to go on an adventure with me today?” Yang Zhang asked.
“Squeak!”
“Chirp!”
“Vii! Vii!”
“Dii!”
…
The only one that didn’t reply other than Roselia was Poddie. Yang Zhang turned his head at Poddie and asked, “Poddie, are you okay? You don’t want to go on an adventure today?”
“Pii, Pii… Pii!” Poddie said that he liked it more inside the hut because he lived his entire life in that small and safe greenhouse. He was scared of the outside world full of zombies.
“Pii! Pii!” Poddie offered his pea pod bag to his master. Telling Yang Zhang that he could use the bag full of pea bullets.
“Well, I won’t force you at all, Poddie,” Yang Zhang said. He was also considering Poddie’s usefulness outside of providing bullets.
Poddie wasn’t a fighter. He couldn’t do anything in a clutch situation if they fought a horde of zombies.
“Pii! Pii!”
“You want to accompany Roselia to do gardening instead?”
“Pii!”
“Well, that’s fine. Roselia seems to like you very much as well,” Yang Zhang said, glancing at Roselia.
“Of course, Master! Poddie is such a good and obedient boy. I like taking care of him so much!” Roselia said. Because Poddie identified as a little boy, he reminded Roselia of the skeletal remains inside the backyard’s grave. She wondered if she had an emotional connection to that deceased baby boy.
“Pii!” Poddie looked happy that he didn’t need to go on a dangerous adventure. Since he liked to stay and help Roselia gardening instead of seeing so many zombies.
“Pii! Pii!” Poddie offered his pea pod bag to Yang Zhang, he opened the bag and showed hundreds of pea bullets inside, and there was plenty of sky blue pea bullet as well. The ratio was 75% for regular pea bullets and 25% for sky blue bullets.
“Hehe, thank you, Poddie!” Yang Zhang grabbed his Gauntlet gun and wore it on his right hand. Since the regular pea bullet and sky blue pea bullet was mixed into one and it was too time-consuming to separate them one by one, Yang Zhang just poured everything inside the gauntlet gun’s chamber and hoped that he would be able to use the right bullet when needed.
He took at least 10 sky blue bullets and put them in his jeans pocket before returning the pea pod bag to Poddie.
He then wore his jeans and jacket washed by Roselia.
“Okay, gang! Are you ready for the adventure today? We’re heading north because I want to see Xi Feng and her little sister, Mudan. I hope they’re in good condition right now.”
“Squeak!”
“Chirp!”
Chestnut and Lt. Spicy Wing jumped to Yang Zhang and sat in their comfortable spots. Chestnut hiding inside Yang Zhang’s jacket pocket, while Spicy Wing nestled on top of his head.
“Vii!” Little Ivy jumped in and wrapped her vines around Yang Zhang’s left arm like always.
Poddie jumped to Roselia and sat on Roselia’s shoulder, and the last one was Daniella.
Since this was her first time going on an adventure, she got confused about what she should do.
“You can.. uh… stay inside my jeans pocket?” Yang Zhang offered. Luckily, his jeans weren’t skinny ones, so the pocket was quite large, enough for Daniella.
“Dii!” Daniella was happy, and she uprooted herself. But the moment she uprooted herself, something was popping out from her soil.
Yang Zhang held his breath when he saw a Mana bead pop out from Daniella’s pot.
That Mana bead was definitely Doctor Jun’s Mana bead that Yang Zhang planted alongside the Brain bead, thinking it would create another Roselia, much to his disappointment.
Yang Zhang thought the Mana bead was gone after Daniella was brought to life. It turned out the Mana bead had zero effect on Daniella!
“Daniella, can you bring that blue bead to me?”
“Dii!”
Daniella walked towards Yang Zhang while bringing the Mana bead. Yang Zhang lifted Daniella and put her inside the jeans pocket. He marveled at the Mana bead that had been very useful for his adventure in the east before. This Mana bead was also useful to upgrade Poddie’s pea pod.
Yang Zhang thought he should find a new animal for this, but Chestnut suddenly interrupted him.
“Squeak?”
“Huh? What is it? You want this one?”
“Squeak! Squeak!” Chestnut nodded. The squirrel said he wanted to have that Mana bead for a while because the Mana bead fit him so much.
Yang Zhang hummed for a moment and then nodded. He found no problem with it because it was also difficult to find an animal that wanted to work with him, compared to plants that would always see Yang Zhang as their master.
“Okay, you can have it, Chestnut,” Yang Zhang said, giving the Mana bead to Chestnut.
Chestnut jumped out of Yang Zhang’s jacket pocket and grabbed the Mana bead.
Chestnut sat on the table while checking the Mana bead for a moment. He cleaned the Mana bead from dirt and then swallowed it whole.
Gulp.
…
…
For a while, nothing happened after Chestnut swallowed the Mana bead. Yang Zhang was disappointed but said nothing as he knew that this could also be a good experiment to conduct—
Bzzzzzttt!
“Squeak!”
Yang Zhang’s eyes widened when he saw Chestnut was surrounded by electric current, and his body shone brightly.
“What? Chestnut is evolving?!” Yang Zhang yelled.
The light around Chestnut’s body got brighter and brighter until Yang Zhang was forced to close his eyes.
Bzzzzzt!
Yang Zhang heard a small zap before the bright light dissipated. He opened his eyes slowly and saw that Chestnut had a different look!
“Wow, Chestnut, you’ve evolved from Pachirisu to Emolga!” Yang Zhang said. “You’re a flying squirrel now!”
“Squeak!” Chestnut stretched his arms and showed the new parachute-like skin that he could use to glide from one tree to another.
“Do you need my help to lift you up, so you can glide?” Yang Zhang asked.
“Squeak!” Chestnut shook his head and took a deep breath. His chest started bigger as it was filled with air, and Chestnut blew the table, creating a strong gust that pushed the flying squirrel to the ceiling.
“Squeeee!” Chestnut glided around the living room freely.
Yang Zhang was excited upon seeing Chestnut able to fly on his own, “Whoa! Chestnut, that’s so cool! You can freely fly now!”
“Squeeeee!” Chestnut continued gliding until he decided to land on Yang Zhang’s shoulder. “Squeak!”
“Hehe, you’re amazing, Chestnut! I bet you have other tricks in your sleeve, right?”
“Squeak!”
