The fat, arrogant boy walked closer to the broomstick that peacefully laid on the ground. It was an extraordinary broomstick because of its awesome features.

The handle was made up of pure wood that was carved perfectly for someone. There were symbols inscribed at the upper side that piqued Halora’s interests.

It wasn’t completely a typical broomstick and a human like Johnny would never touch and or even break it.

“Are you ready to hail me as the new campus bad boy?”

“YES!”

“PICK IT UP AND BREAK IT INTO PIECES!” The crowd dared him and thought it was just a slice of cake.

Johnny bowed his head and he said, “Challenge accepted.”

As he murmured those words, he bent his knees low and arched his back to reach for it. While his friends stood behind like they were his backups.

Slowly as it was, his knees trembled when he was about to lay his hands on it. He gasped, licked his lips and giggled bitterly.

Around him, the students looked closely to see if he could completely finish the task. They were screaming, cheering for him but not until a surprising thing happened.

“OH! THAT WAS SURPRISING!”

Johnny widened his eyes when he saw how the broomstick flew away from him. It stunned him and the students behind was caught off guard too.

“Relax guys, it was just part of the game!” he shockingly said.

Johnny pretended to be fine even though he felt something odd. He saw how it moved on its own and it was merely impossible as the weather came back to normal.

“Go, Johnny! Go, Johnny!”

The cheerful crowd brought him to the brink of danger and left him with no choice. It was part of the challenge and if he failed to complete it, he would still be the same man like before.

However, before he tried for the second time, Johnny narrowed his eyes and looked behind his friends.

He said in a hollow, fearful voice, “Hey, come here!”

“Me?”

“Yes!”

Johnny didn’t want to embarrass himself in front of hundreds of students. He has been waiting for this moment to shine and show the whole world that anyone could be a popular, cool guy someday.

Secretly, he whispered to one of his friends to pick up the broomstick and give it to him. But he refused that leave him with no choice.

“Damn it! They’re all worthless!”

He cursed and swore under the sky but he must do it now or else, he would end up broken and shattered into pieces.

“Come on, Johnny! What are you waiting for? Pick it up now or your title shall remain!”

Out of blue, Jasmine screamed at the top of her lungs that caused a loud, sarcastic laughter. She was grinning widely beside Halora as she remained silent and calm.

“Shut up, Jasmine!” Johnny said as he fretfully took steps closer and reached for it.

For the second attempt, he successfully held it tightly. With pride and dignity, he lifted it up and swayed it to the air.

It was just a temporary success and anytime soon, his efforts and ambitions would go to waste and in vain.

He laughed loudly as his teeth showed up perfectly. His friends walked closer to him but he stared sharply at Jasmine who seemed surprised too.

“JOHNNY!”

“JOHNNY, FOR THE NEW CAMPUS BAD BOY!”

“JOHNNY, FOR THE NEW CAMPUS BAD BOY!”

It was overwhelming, the picture of the crowd in front of him, cheering and praising his name and deeds were only part of his greatest dreams.

“Alright, I know this ugly, worthless broomstick suddenly appeared out of the blue, but all of us witnessed how it flew up at the sky earlier.”

“And now, for the last task, I must break it into pieces and once I finished it, the prestigious title will be mine.”

Halora was silently watching him from a distance. From their classroom, they went onto the wide field that was filled with students.

Their loud voices echoed around and she could barely heard it.

Her body wanted to get the broomstick from him yet, she waited for the perfect timing. She must act carefully in front of everyone.

“Huh, they will never understand if I show it to the whole world.” she whispered anxiously to the wind.

She hoped Johnny won’t do something terrible at the broomstick otherwise, it would be a big problem.

However, the fat young man prepared himself and earned enough courage and strength.

Tightly as he gripped a girl’s vulnerable wrist, he held the handle and took a deep, long breath.

He said, “Huh! Finally, my greatest dream will come true!”

Right at the moment, Johnny suddenly tried to break it through hitting on the ground. It was filled with emotions, strength and his entire life but nothing has changed.

It seemed like a ball that only bounced back from the ground. It was exhausting but he has no plan to stop.

“Move away! I need something hard like trees or what!”

“Stop!” spoke Halora out of the blue. “You can’t break it whether you like it or not!”

The people around turned their head on her with a grin on their faces. They thought it was only nothing but it was a warning, a warning before something bad happened to him.

However, no one believed to Halora and Johnny smiled widely from a distance.

He said, “Back off! It’s none of your business to deal with!” And right then, he forcibly hit the broomstick against the tree.

At first, nothing changed that made him burst into laughter. He seemed complacent of what he did and the moment he laid his eyes on the broomstick, it remained still like what it was.

“What? Why I can’t break this shit!”

Slowly, his patient was replaced with annoyance that urged him to hit the broomstick once again.

Halora held her breath for a second and witnessed how Johnny tried to break it. Everything happened in a slow motion; the crowd hailed loudly and the deafening voices confused her.

She wasn’t sure what happened next but Jasmine quickly held her hands tightly.

She said, “J– Johnny… Johnny successfully break it!”

However, while the crowd cheered for him celebrated right away, Jasmine rolled her eyes angrily.

Everyone thought it was the end of a mischievous entertainment but they were all wrong.

For a second, Halora closed her eyes, reminisced how a witch manipulate her broomstick.

“Come closer to your master, now..” she murmured, opened her palms as the broken broomstick suddenly flew into the air that startled all of them.
