My Career is Useless in this World!! - Chapter 238
Episode 231- The bath had a screen so Eugene didn’t see anything she shouldn’t see.
There was more he didn’t tell Eugene. Like how he went on a killing spree, and killed everyone from his grandmother’s side the day prior. No one noticed because the people who he had killed were ordered to come to the estate secretly by his grandmother. It was amusing because of his grandmother’s nervous expression when no one arrived.
No one could see Louis’s expression at the moment because it was dark. He turned around and walked over to the fireplace to add more wood in it, and it was only then that his blank expression became visible.
Though it was summer, the night in Raden is cold, so he was advised by the physician to keep Eugene cozy and comfortable. The heat from the fireplace spread around the room, warming both himself and the injured girl. It was a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and this atmosphere carried all the way to the next morning.

The next day
There were no sounds of birds to wake Eugene up and she woke up naturally. The sun was already out even though it was covered by thick layers of clouds. The cloudy and gloomy day made Eugene roll her eyes in bed. She exhaled loudly before she stretched her body in all sorts of shape and form, mumbling all sorts of weirdly painful yet satisfying sounds, not realizing that there was someone beside her watching her every move.
“You have bad bed habits.” A voice spoke. There was dissatisfaction in the voice.
“AH!” Eugene immediately jumped up and turned towards the source of voice, to a figure sitting on a chair staring at her with a nonchalant face. Louis’s blank eyes stared into Eugene’s embarrassed yet shocked eyes.
“… You… You watched me sleep?!” Her hands reached for her covers as she slowly pulled it to cover herself up. All she could think in her head was how creepy Levis was to actually watch her sleep! And what did he mean by bad habits! She had no sleeping habits!
Louis’ eyes watched her slow hands pulling the cover up and shook his head. He turned to her, “What can I do?” He said nonchalantly, as if he had no choice but to stay besides her.
‘I mean… You didn’t have to stay here all ni-‘ Eugene thought when she realized something.
“You were here all night?” She asked him with widened eyes.
Louis did not confirm nor did he deny. Eugene pulled the covers down and asked, “You didn’t sleep?” Her voice turned a pitch high at the word ‘sleep’.
Louis glanced at the window in front and when he turned back, he shook his head, “I haven’t slept. For 14 days to be exact.”
“…. Oh.” Eugene’s mouth formed an ‘O’. Was it because he had been looking for her this entire time? She wanted to ask but didn’t dare ask as it was too cheesy and cringe-worthy for the both of them. Hence she poked him instead,
“How are you living?”
“How do you think?” His response was immediate before he stood up and walked away.
Eugene pursed her lips as she was in deep thoughts before she shouted at him when he reached the door,
“THANK YOU!” Yes, it was childish to say it when he wasn’t paying attention to her but she was slightly embarrassed okay?
Her shout naturally shocked Louis who immediately whipped around. He stared at her with a flabbergasted look on his face for a moment, before turning back, leaving Eugene to watch his departed back.
Eugene stared blankly at the door for a moment before she got off the bed. Louis didn’t tell her not to move anymore so it means she can go on about her days. Just when she was about to complete her stretch, a knock on the door was heard.
“Come in.”
The people who came in weren’t Louis but a bunch of ladies carrying buckets filled with water. The moment Eugene saw water, she realized that she hadn’t shower for at least 15 days. Which was more than a month. She immediately turned to the side and began to smell herself when her eyes caught her body completely clean.
“Does Lady need assistance?” One of the ladies came forward and asked.
Eugene shook her head and dismissed her. Just as she was about to get in the bath, her ears picked up the conversation the ladies were having from outside her door.
“The brother is such a family man despite his cold exterior.”
Eugene raised a brow and as she turned to the wall to where the ladies were estimated to be judging from their voice.
“Yes. He took care of his sister all night, went through an extensive search, and hired us exclusively to clean his sister up. Not only is he handsome, but he is also such a kind man. An ideal husband!”
Eugene raised a brow as she stepped into the bath.
“The number of physicians he brought in to give her a health check-up. Such a kind brother, I want a brother like him too.”
“The physicians said that Lady would be fine. But he still stayed by her side all night. Which family member would do that if they were not your parents?”
‘What’s this?’ Eugene pursed her lips as she stared at the ceiling. ‘Not only does he care. He really truly cared.’ She felt an odd feeling and an odd emotion. If one were to ask how to describe the feeling she had, she would describe it as moving, maybe heartwarming almost. She was moved that Louis cared for her and took care of her.
Even though he didn’t have to stay with her all night, he did. And though he made it seem like it was an order from the physician, it wasn’t.
Eugene allowed herself to soak for a good 30 minutes to deeply cleanse her body before she headed out. She had nothing to do, so when she dressed up in a dress prepared for her by the helper ladies, she left her room and went into Louis’s room.
There was silence in the room before a voice spoke out, “… Do you need anything?”
At this moment, Louis was taking a bath and was in a corner of the room. Lucky for everyone the bath had a screen so Eugene didn’t see anything she shouldn’t see. Eugene stared blankly before she shrugged her shoulders and decided to head into his room anyway.
“I’m hungry.” She said nonchalantly.
There was another moment of silence before Louis spoke, “… You won’t give me time to rest won’t you?” Asked Louis whose voice sounded like he gave up on his life itself.
“Yes,” Eugene said before proceeding to walk over to his chair. She lifted her leg and sat on the chair crossed legs, in a monk pose.
The room was silent. Yes, Eugene was rude for not knocking, and not leaving even when she knew Louis was taking a bath. In fact, she was taken aback by how daring she was after sitting as well. But what can she do? She had something to do. There was something she wanted to try out and she needed Louis’s supervision in case something went wrong.
What she wanted to try out was digesting the lives of the people she had taken. This included the lives she had taken at the Veria estate which she realized she hadn’t yet digested. And all the lives total were well over 100 lives. Euria said that in order to bring someone back alive, she would need to personally kill 100 people. So doesn’t that mean that if she didn’t want to bring someone back alive, she didn’t have to kill them directly? Such as poisoning them to death? That she categorized as not killing them directly because by directly she presume Euria meant to kill using her hands.
Because there were over 100 lives she had to digest, she wanted to be really careful. This is why having Louis with her is crucial and important.
Like Euria told her to do, she commanded her blood, ‘Digest the lives I took.’ Eugene was about to stop there when she abruptly continued, ‘BUT! Don’t make me go into a coma or none of that!’
She didn’t know if her second command would work, however, fortunately, she didn’t feel overwhelmed. She only felt a sense of relief as she felt power surging through her little by little as if her body was digesting one life force at a time. To be honest, it was a comfortable feeling despite it being someone else’s life she took.
In fact, it might even be addicting due to how comfortable she was. She felt as if she was in a dream, on a bed of flowers, lying there watching the sky doing absolutely nothing. She was so invested in this feeling that she did not realize how long time, in reality, had passed.
The next thing she knew when her eyes opened was that her back was lying on a soft mattress. Fortunately, the sun was still up, even though it was still a depressing and cloudy day.. Eugene glanced around Louis’s room and noticed Louis sitting on the coffee table by the window sipping a warm drink.
