My Career is Useless in this World!! - Chapter 264
Episode 257- Did you have a boyfriend in your former life?
Moniqua nodded. It was weird to think that her daughter was older than her, but what could she do about that? Be her daughter instead? Moniqua chuckled in her mind.
“Did you have a boyfriend there? And were you married?” This was something Moniqua was curious about since a long time ago.
Eugene shook her head, “I did not have such interest.”
Moniqua nodded, ‘as expected’. “What interests did you have then?” She asked as she turned away from Eugene and back to the sky.
Eugene opened her mouth, “I… wanted to study emotions. And I become an Actress.”
Moniqua turned to Eugene in surprise! She thought that her daughter would be a doctor or someone with a difficult degree! She did not take Eugene as someone who acts as a living.
“I was an entertainer and acted. In my former world, actings can be recorded and kept to watch later. There was also a machine called T.V, and with this machine, the whole country could watch my acting from anywhere in the country or even the whole world.” Eugene tried her best to explain.
“What?! Such a magical thing exists?” Moniqua asked Eugene with big eyes. Eugene nodded.
“Then you must be pretty popular.” Moniqua teased Eugene.
“…” Eugene thought for a moment before nodding, “Yes. Just a little bit.”
The atmosphere between the two was one of peace and was very good. They talked for a while longer, and it was then that Moniqua learned that Eugene had once been proposed to. She learned that it was an unexpected and shocking proposal even to Eugene, however she had rejected the man because she was simply not interested.
Before the sun went down completely, Eugene stood up from the picnic cloth and stood in front of Moniqua.
“Eugeneia?” Moniqua tilted her head, questioning what Eugene was going to do.
Eugene had been thinking of doing this for a while now. She wanted to thank Moniqua for everything she had done for herand given her. She wanted to let Moniqua know that she was important to her, and wanted to apologize for her rude behavior this past decade.
Hence, there was barely any hesitation in Eugene as she expressed herself,
“…Thank you for being my mother.” Eugene stared at Moniqua straight in the eye not knowing that Moniqua couldn’t see her due to the sun shining from behind her and casting a black light. Only Eugene could see Moniqua’s face and her expression.
“To me, you are my only mother. And though it took a long time for me to acknowledge this, please know that I am always grateful. I am grateful to live many lives as your daughter, be taught many precious things from you, and most importantly, be cherished by you.”
Eugene saw Moniqua’s shocked expression followed by a clear liquid leaving Moniqua’s red eyes. She didn’t dare look at Moniqua anymore and bowed deeply instead, “Thank you for everything.” She stayed in that pose for a while and straightened her back.
“I will now be heading off to the academy, where I will find my future.” There was a genuine smile on Eugene’s face which Moniqua couldn’t see but could sense. Eugene’s entire body was cast in a dark shadow but even then Moniqua did not take her eyes off of Eugene.
She was moved by the fact that she was recognized, but there was also a palpable sadness in the air that she couldn’t put into words. Moniqua and Eugene stared at each other for a long time and when they decided it was time to go home, they linked their hands all the way back to the carriage, and all the way back home.
And this was how their first and last date for another long while, ended.

Eugene smiled as she said her goodbyes to everyone in the mansion’s entrance hall. Louis, Aedelak, Aeselak, Ramon, and Aernest stood behind her as they also bid their goodbyes. There was no sadness, as Moniqua, Levis, and all the workers in the estate bid them farewell.
“Ah. I forgot your gift!”
Moniqua and Levis walked in front of Eugene and stuffed her hands full of bags containing the gold coins she loved so much! It was the perfect gift for her! Eugene gave her their thanks before leaving without regrets. Her regret had been solved when she had made up and apologized for her wrongdoings these past years to both Levis and Moniqua. There was no longer anything holding her back as she headed her way to her new life.
Eugene stared out the window and watched the Veria estate one last time before her eyes left the window and stared at her shoes. Her shoes were formal, and if you glance up higher, you can see that Eugene was wearing her academy uniform form. Her uniform consisted of a white blouse, a navy jacket, the academy’s pin logo, and a long navy skirt. This uniform was customizable to the person’s style however Eugene didn’t bother with it and wore it just as it is.
“Sister, do you truly not want to stay with us?” Asked Aernest who was looking at her with his big eyes. Aernest was talking about the Veria house that was built on the academy’s grounds. Only Aedelak and Louis were living in the house right now as Ramon had moved out after a year in the academy. Well, he didn’t totally move out, but he did not sleep at the house much.
“No. I want to stay in the dorm.” Eugene immediately refused. She didn’t want to stay in the Veria house because she wanted the privacy she had been craving for, for the past 10 years. Not to mention, she wanted to live her own life now.
Aernest didn’t say anything much after that however, he did not sulk.
The carriage ride was long and when they arrived at the academy, it was already past afternoon. Without so much as a glance outside, Eugene could already hear the crowd of people talking, whispering, and walking. They stopped for a minute for a security check before they headed inside the academy grounds. After that, they were stopped 3 more times before they arrived at the Veria house.
“Miss, I will bring you to the dorm.” Said Aedelak who was reluctant to part with Eugene but Eugene declined.
“I will go by myself. See you later.” Eugene closed the door on Aedelak’s face and knocked on the carriage door to indicate for the carriage driver to head out. It was a short and a flabbergasting farewell Ramon, Aernest, Aeselak and Aedelak didn’t expect. They thought Eugene would come inside for a second and didn’t know Eugene was going to leave within a second, without a single glance back.
Eugene didn’t realize that her short farewell had brought depression to the group that was dropped off just now as she headed to her destination. The reason why she didn’t think much of it was because she didn’t think of their farewell as their last farewell. She was sure that one of them was going to visit her one of these days, which was why there was no need for farewell or even good luck.
The ride took a good 15 minutes before she arrived at the forefront of the academy. There was a long line of people here as both commoners and nobles waited. There was no distinction in status between the lines, and everything was mixed. However, what distinguished the commoners from the nobles was that they were silent and appeared to not want to speak or even breathe.
The nobles were the opposite as most of them were already friends with one another so they talked and laughed amongst each other. So even if there were no lines for commoners or no lines for nobles, there was still a clear distinction in the air between these two statuses.
Eugene only carried a small suitcase with her because her other stuff would be delivered later. Her small suitcase was like a purse, as it contained her money, some food to snack on, and her sword. The necessary things.
She took out her floppy hat and adjusted it so that most of her face was covered before she walked forward. The people walking behind Eugene stared at her distinctive short grey hair. Her hair indicated her identity which caused the people walking behind her to freeze, stop walking, and didn’t dare breathe.
No one in front of her noticed her because her hair had all moved back. She didn’t tie her hair and instead left it be because her hair was short, which was how the people from behind knew who she was. Well, they knew which family she was from and that she was one of the blessed twins in Xenperia. And whether she was Euria or Eugeneia, they did not know.
“Why are you so quiet?” Asked a girl, as she poked the girl who was standing beside her.
Eugene was right behind the two and was definitely not eavesdropping.. Definitely.
