My Career is Useless in this World!! - Chapter 278
Episode 271- Eugene’s reputation amongst the first year became more unfavourable
Eugene’s reputation amongst the first year became more unfavourable after her training session with her swordsmanship classmates. Compared to how accepted she was in her class, other students from other classes had different thoughts. Rumours of Eugene being ruthless and having the ability to kill spread throughout the entire first years.
But it didn’t end there. After a day, this rumour spread throughout the entire academy. Rumours of Eugene monster-like abilities, being able to knock any men out her way. Then finally, rumours of her being the most ruthless of the Veria family spread around. Who didn’t know that the Veria household specializes in swordsmanship? And who didn’t know that those who hold the Veria sword were emotionless. Now, when a man is emotionless this serves as no problem, but when it comes to an emotionless, strong female, this is a different matter, especially in this time and age.
Afterwards, Eugene’s appearance began to spread around. Specifically her hair and eye colour. What else could it mean other than Eugene preparing to become the successor of the Veria family. The reason why this came to spread was because of Louis who at that time was questioned about Eugene’s strength and her possibly kicking Louis out to take over the Veria family.
Louis responded with
“Oh, there were talks about it.” His words alone confirmed Eugene’s special position as the person in line to succeed Levis, the current Duke. When this rumour spread, everyone was scared. Especially the group of girls who had been spreading rumours about Eugene since day one. Of course, they knew the consequences of going against someone from the Great Noble, however, they didn’t expect that someone they were going against was actually going to be the leader of Xenperia one day.
Ever since this rumour spread, no one dared talk bad about Eugene anymore. They were scared and afraid of the consequences of doing so. And once again, both commoners and nobles became afraid and scared of the existence known as Eugene.

Eugene was bored. Incredibly bored. Ever since she began training with swordsmanship, everyone went out of their way to treat her better. She would be overflowing with snacks one day or even flowers the next day. Of course, if someone had personally given her snacks, she would reject them. However, there was Camille, Aernest, Watt and Ppa who didn’t dare reject snacks on Eugene’s behalf and had been bringing her snacks in the sender’s stead.
She was bored because of the 180 changes the students went through. First, they dislike her, then they like her. Why? Because of the successor rumours. Everything felt so fake and boring all of a sudden that Eugene wished to go back to days when everyone ignored her. It felt more calming and peaceful then but it seems that it has become impossible now. Even her classmates at swordsmanship class were cheering and looking at her with great admiration now.
Things like these were common.
“No wonder Miss Eugeneia is strong.”
“Do you think I can serve Miss Eugeneia later?”
Camille got red as she tucked her hair behind her ears. For some reason… the person in front of her has been staring at her for a good 30 minutes. She fanned herself as the room became warmer and warmer.
“I’m so bored,” Eugene complained and snapped out of it when Camille began to fan herself.
Camille rubbed her cheeks and asked, “Bored? Is the academy not fun?”
Eugene stared at Camille blankly. These days Camille is very happy. Especially on days that required her to attend over 10 hours of studies. This Eugene couldn’t relate to. It was as if Camille was a sadist. The more work she was given, the happier she got. Of course, this made Eugene completely unhappy. The more work Camille was given, the more Camille became unable couldn’t cook. Eugene couldn’t stand not being able to eat Camille’s food, but she also did not want to spoil the fun for Camille.
“I’m hungry…” Eugene complained unconsciously as she watched Camille do her homework carefully.
“I will be done soon, Miss.” Camille smiled through her writing. For the past few weeks, she had gotten used to Eugene complaining about being hungry. It was cute because Eugene would unconsciously say it.
“Should I just learn how to cook?” Eugene said, not really meaning it, but also meaning it.
‘This is new…’ Camille moved her eyes from her paper and watched as Eugene propped her face up with one hand.
Camille smiled, “I’m sure Miss would be a good cook!” She truly meant it when she said that however she saw Eugene’s face slowly turning towards her and looking at her with disgust.
“No.” Eugene shook her head. She flatly denied her being a good cook.
“If Miss doesn’t try, how will Miss know?” Camille asked her as she moved her focus to the paper she was writing on.
“No.” Eugene denied again, “You don’t understand. It’s bad. No… Bad is even a good word to use.” Eugene rubbed her chin, “It’s disastrous, worse than war food.” The last time she cooked, it was for a drama she filmed for. At first, she thought that all she needed to do was act and pretend to cook, however, the director sent her to culinary school and man, she almost burned the whole building down. The food she makes automatically turns black, and whatever she peels disintegrates in one single second.
It was that bad. Anyway, the culinary school begged the director to take Eugene away because the proud culinary school he built from scratch was literally burning down in fire every day. Not to mention the food that Eugene made was so poisonous that even staying in the room she cooks in makes his students faint. It was terrible. In the end, the director hired a stand-in whenever there’s a cooking scene which is 90% of what the drama is based on.
Besides the point, Eugene cannot cook for the life of her.
Camille finished the sentences on her paper before sitting straight up. Her face was ridden with unwillingness and she tried to convince Eugene some more, “But Eugeneia! There must be something else you are good at?”
That… Eugene couldn’t deny. She was also positive that there must be something in the cooking area she was good at? Not washing the dishes but maybe washing the ingredients? Or… Or… starting a fire?
“Fixing a dented pan?” Eugene stared at the ceiling in a daze, “I should be good at that.”
“…” Camille pursed her lips and didn’t respond. The answer given to her is so ridiculous that she didn’t even know where to begin to respond or what face she should be making.
“Well… Let’s try something out.” Camille said and stood up when suddenly Eugene grabbed her wrist.
“Not here.” Eugene shook her head. It would be disastrous if she attempted something in their peaceful dorm.

“Will you really burn the apartment down?” There was speechlessness in Camille’s voice as she asked. Eugene nodded fiercely.
At this moment, Aernest, Watt, and Ppa were standing and gathered around Eugene. They were very close because Eugene specifically requested for them to resolve the situation if something shady and stupid occurred.
“I… I will do it!” Eugene’s voice was slightly high as she raised a bowl of egg mixtures above the hot pan. Camille has prepared the mixture and seasoning for the omelette and all Eugene needed to do was pour it into the pan and let it cook. It was as simple as that. Was what everyone thought until the moment the egg mixture was poured into the pan.
“…. What the -bleep-”
“… Oh…”
Speechless mutters could be heard all around Eugene as they stared at Eugene’s masterpiece. For some reason. No, for whatever reason, her omelette turned black the moment her egg mixture hit the pan. It wasn’t as if the pan was too hot or something, in fact, it was even the right timing.
However… it was still disastrous and worse than war food just like Eugene had described earlier on during the day.
No one believed her word until this hell-like miracle happened right in front of their eyes. And then, another thing Eugene mentioned also immediately occurred because the egg was somehow catching on fire. Watt, Ppa, Aernest and Camille immediately poured water over the pan to calm the situation down.
The 5 stood still in a moment of silence.
“… Haa…” Aernest exhaled loudly and put his hands on Eugene’s shoulders. To think that he would one day come to find out what his sister was terrible at. No, the more he knew and understood his sister, the more flaws he saw.. Embroidery, writing in diaries, drawing, and now cooking. Whatever required an artistic sense, his sister wasn’t able to do but luckily she had him! He comforted her in a soothing voice,
