My Chaotic City - Chapter 43
Li Hanqiang moved his thoughts after finishing his sentence and the Bright Lance Dark Arrow Tower attacked Deity Robber.
Both the Bright Lance and Dark Arrows struck him!
-50, -100, -1000!
The three damage figures appeared one after another from Deity Robber’s head. He was only a Level 5 robber with 250 HP and was instantly killed on the spot.
“Are players defaulted by the system as being a BOSS?” Li Hanqiang was a little disappointed as he wanted to experiment with the damage effect of the Bright Lance Dark Arrow Tower on players.
Judging from the results, the players were actually treated like BOSS-level monsters. When the guns and arrows both attacked together, only 1,000 points of damage could be triggered.
Of course, the injury itself was already considered ridiculous.
After returning Deity Robber to the city for free, Li Hanqiang went to the Blue Ripple Pond. He did not want to miss any more elite mounts so he would need to observe the group of little gremlins himself.
Half an hour later, Deity Robber came by again. After being returned by Li Hanqiang to the city in mere seconds, he was not annoyed at all. In fact, after buying his potions, he tried to get closer to Li Hanqiang again.
“Brother Qiang, is this defensive tower really known as the ‘Free Trip Back to the City Tower’? It could actually take me down in seconds!” Deity Robber did not care about his levels at all. He paced leisurely around the War Corridor at that moment, his hands behind his back with an inquisitive look. Suddenly pointing at the Rocket Tower, he asked again, “What is the name of this defensive tower? Can you show me its attribute information?”
“This is an even more powerful defensive tower that is known as the ‘Kill You Three Thousand Tower’!”
After Li Hanqiang finished his sentence, the swords rose in a flash, accompanied by the Bright Lance and Dark Arrows as Deity Robber was attacked by the Sword Tower and Bright Lance Dark Arrow Tower at the same time. Once again, he was killed in a matter of seconds.
“This is my place, so what is that little kid doing around here?”
Li Hanqiang snorted. He did not intend to let Deity Robber wander around his Chaotic City and decided that he would send him back free of charge to the city every time he visited in the future.
Just like that, the Deity Robber was ‘returned to the city free of charge’ three times in a row and was reduced to Level 1. He became sincere after he understood Li Hanqiang’s thoughts and without a word, he teleported back directly after buying the potions.
Time flew by fast and by the time evening had come, Deity Robber was unable to move anymore and stopped coming over to sell more potions.
It was up until ten o’clock in the evening when Little Liuzi could also not bear it anymore.
Big Trader insisted on being up until twelve o’clock at night, before finally going offline due to his deep exhaustion.
When the night was finally quiet, Li Hanqiang was still energetic as he glanced at his income. He had reached a total of 1,230 gold coins and the Chaos’ Core could finally be upgraded.
In addition, the little gremlins fishing at the Blue Ripple Pond managed to harvest a Small Chaotic Bottle and a Bright Green Turtle Shell.
“It’s time to Change Tower again!”
Since he had just returned to the Gold Coin Challenge Leaderboard, Li Hanqiang did not want this to be a one-time thing. He felt that he needed to get a few more mutant towers in order to stabilize his ranking and planned to wait for the tenth wave of monster attacks before upgrading his Chaos’ Core.
In his mind, it would be a huge loss for him if he did not use the Change Tower Passive Skill to change his towers during the early stages of the game. Besides that, why did he need to be in a rush to upgrade the Chaos’ Core when he was still able to create enough impact against several waves of monster attacks on the city by himself?
Li Hanqiang spent 1,000 gold coins to buy ten Basic Arrow Tower Construction Blueprints. One Small Chaotic Bottle had 100 Chaotic Energy, which was just enough to change ten towers.
He did not recruit the Little Gremlin’s Acrobatic Troupe to help this time and instead, ran to the Blue Ripple Pond to release a large number of small fishes first by himself. He then paid his respects to his surroundings before beginning his tower changes.
The results he got showed him that his luck had not increased by much. Only four out of the ten Basic Arrow Towers successfully mutated, regardless of the 50% probability rate set by the system. Fortunately, all the mutated towers were very powerful as they had turned into Bright Lance Dark Arrow Towers.
“No losses!”
Li Hanqiang laughed. His current Defensive Tower configuration was Fire Tower ×1, Beast Hunter ×1, Sword Tower ×1, Bright Lance Dark Arrow Tower ×5, and Rocket Tower ×1.
With his experience from the previous waves, the ninth wave of monsters attacking the city would be at Level 20 with around 1800 to 2200 HP. Their numbers should not exceed 20,000, which meant that the time frame for battle would last at least three hours.
By his calculations, the Bright Lance Dark Arrow Tower carried out one attack every three seconds. If he was lucky, this meant he would be able to kill five monsters in three seconds. That would be 100 monsters in one minute and 6,000 in just an hour!
Li Hanqiang felt that with his current defensive firepower would be more than enough to challenge the ninth wave of monster attacks.
“Yesterday, I ended up with a shameful city defense. It will not happen again this time!” Li Hanqiang was so determined that he opened the ninth wave without hesitation. This time, he did not recruit the gremlins to occupy the Stone Slabs again as they had no attack power and could not change jobs. Instead, It was better for them to carry out research and develop technologies.
As for the city defense mission announcement, Li Hanqiang did nothing naughty this time and sent out an announcement with no additional content.
In contrast to Li Hanqiang’s own expectations, 15 rays of light suddenly appeared and came down from the sky, filling all the Chaotic Stone Slabs before he had the time to end his war preparations.
On the Chaotic Stone Slab at the front, Deity Robber smiled and waved at Li Hanqiang. “Brother, are you defending the city again? Let me help you this time. I will fight the monsters with all my might!”
Li Hanqiang almost fell over head first from the sky. This f*cking Deity Robber had teleported over with the group of aunties again.
The aunties were not asleep in the middle of the night and had actually squatted around waiting for his city defense task!
What kind of operation was this!
At that moment, Deity Robber secretly pondered on Zhen Deqiang’s magical calculations as this had all been arranged by him. He made the group of aunties work the night shift and paid them each a subsidy of 100 yuan. It was unbelievable that they had managed to get Li Hanqiang’s city defense mission.
Li Hanqiang’s face turned dark as he said, “I cannot figure this out just how much hatred there is for me. Is it appropriate to torment a group of aunties just to squat around to wait for my city defense mission?”
The group of aunties were actually quite resentful at this. It was fine for them to sell potions during the day now they had to work the night shift too. It was not easy for them to even earn a small amount of money.
Sister Pomegranate waved at Li Hanqiang and said, “Young man, we meet again. As you can see, my level has not moved at all from that day up until now.”
Red Wine Rose sighed. “Apart from selling potions, that has been all that we have done for the past two days. I can’t stand it anymore so it is not a bad idea to come here in the middle of the night to level up!”
“Yes, coming here to level up is easier than selling potions,” chimed Fragrant Grass in the Horizon.
Li Hanqiang was speechless. This group of aunties were treating his place as a leveling field.
Deity Robber shouted again, “Brother Qiang, Brother Qiang, don’t think too much. My body is there but my heart belongs here[1]. I am definitely going to fight the monsters with all my might today. Let’s end the war preparations as I am already scratching my hands in excitement.”
“You are just at Level 1! Do I really look like I need your attack power?”
The more Li Hanqiang looked at Deity Robber, the angrier he grew. Without saying anything else, he silently took control of the Fire Tower and Deity Robber burst into flames for no reason. In two seconds, he was teleported ‘back to the city for free’ again.
“Oh no, the captain has died!”
“Young man, why did you kill our captain? He was such a wonderful person and led us in carrying out our daily tasks!”
“Yeah, don’t kill him in the future as he is a good man…”
After the aunties found out that Deity Robber had been killed and sent back, they immediately started chattering amongst themselves.
Li Hanqiang stood in the air and sighed. “A great man has to be ruthless! Aunties, you guys are really strong. Please return some experience to me so that all of you can rest early.”
After saying that, Li Hanqiang took control of the tower and sent the aunties ‘back to the city for free’.
[1] ] This term is [身在曹营心在汉] and comes from a story in China which writes about the three kingdom dynasty. In the novel, The Tales of Three Kingdoms, one of the general, Guan Yu, was so loyal to his King, Liu Bei, that when he was lost and welcomed into the other party’s camp, Cao Cao’s camp, he did not waver under the temptation of treasures and majestic feasts. Even though his body was in the Cao Camp, his heart was in the Han Camp. In modern days, this idiom is used to describe when someone longs for something else or another job even though he has one at the moment. Due to his loyalty, Guan Yu was worshipped by the Chinese police and businessmen even to this day.
