My Classmate Is 200 Million Years Old - CHAPTER 121 ♦ CHILD-LIKE APPEARANCE
Ah La Lei saw the “First ZH StarCraft Live” match video uploaded onto a certain well-known military forum. When he saw that the netizens who have nothing better to do had even added each of Thunder team member’s reaction to the instructions dished out, he finally lost it.
Though StarCraft was a well-known real-time strategy game, the hype had long since died down. Similar games such as the World of Warcraft and the likes on the other hand rose in popularity. As such, StarCraft gameplay videos were never seen on the trending list of videos. Even if there were videos that were particularly popular, there would only remain incredibly well-known among the niche community.
This was also the case for Thunder team. Even after abu joined their team, their gameplay videos were known among the more seasoned players; the newer players or those that weren’t particularly passionate and only played StarCraft once in a while won’t have heard of her name.
After the match against the BZs however, the live recording with Xuan Mo’s voice included was uploaded to the net. Gameplay explanations and visual guidances such as arrows for the different troops were added to the clip. The exhilarating watch coupled with incredibly strategic battlefield set up attracted even those that weren’t interested in the game StarCraft.
Abu’s worldbuilding was very exciting to watch; every line of instructions were succinct. Not only so, she had an immaculate control of the time that had passed, and was always ahead of everyone, as though knowing whatever that was being carried out would be of help in the near future. During the video, you could even hear the excited and shocked exclamations made by the audience during the actual live match. Such a video was no longer just about a game, it was trans-national, and even broached subjects such as military strategies and the likes.
There were even commentary videos where overexcited hosts would scream: this is our mighty commander from hell! She’s inherited all of the most glorious of our culture, Sun Tze*, Zhuge Liang**, and many others, this is them returning to us, all in one body as her! Simply abu herself represents our long-living history and traditions. She is fighting, but she does not fight alone!
* Sun Tzu (孙子 ) was a Chinese general, military strategist, writer and philosopher who lived in the Eastern Zhou period of ancient China. Sun Tzu is traditionally credited as the author of The Art of War, an influential work of military strategy that has affected both Western and East Asian philosophy and military thinking
** Zhuge Liang (诸葛亮), courtesy name Kongming, was a Chinese politician, military strategist, writer, engineer and inventor. He served as the chancellor and regent of the state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period.
In other words, Xuan Mo became famous.
What happens after someone becomes famous? Netizens would dig up all possible information that can be found on her.
We weren’t talking about rumours or gossip found online, but gamers who knew their stuff when it comes to computers digging up information about her, trying to find out who she actually was.
Well, it’s not that there was much to hide exactly. Everything about Xuan Mo was dug up — some of which included information even she herself didn’t know.
By the time Ah La Lei found them, Xuan Mo was sitting before the computer looking through the information the netizens were airing online. Beside her was Lu Yu Chen: “So I was actually born in City Y… and I was kind of anti-social when I was younger?”
Lu Yu Chen had no idea either, so all he could do was to continue reading with her till the very end: skipped grades in her second semester from high school year one to year three; her enrollment to Nat Def Uni was confirmed in June.
Though the description of Xuan Mo’s high school life was brief, it was the most glorious out of everything else. In fact, her high school achievements were unparalleled.
Ah La Lei squeezed himself forward. After glancing at the info, he mumbled: “Xuan Mo, why does it feel like you changed in high school year one, as if you got possessed or something…”
He sounded serious, to the point that Xuan Mo instantly came up with ten different ways to kill this being beside her.
Ah La Lei continued seeking death: “Exactly what happened to you, how did you suddenly become so amazing? I heard you’ve never even gamed back then? Back in junior high year one, you said you loved reading Guiyeoni’s* novels… hoh, and your one true love was Hyun Bin**… if we were to team up against the BZ when you’re in junior high, you probably won’t even bear to do it would you?”
* Guiyeoni (귀여니 ) is the pen name of internet novelist Lee Yoon-sae. She first reached fame with her novels He Was Cool and Romance of Their Own, which spawned commercially successful films of the same name, as with another book, A Wolf’s Attraction.
** Hyun Bin (현빈) is a South Korean actor. Hyun Bin first gained wide recognition for his role in the 2005 romantic comedy television drama My Name is Kim Sam-soon. (Most recent work: ML in Crash Landing on You)
Lu Yu Chen on the other hand too had wanted to agree, but after seeing Xuan Mo’s poor expression, he became more concerned about Ah La Lei’s safety instead.
Ah La Lei continued blabbing happily, before finally coming to a conclusion: “But but! To bring out a demon commander from our team feels damn freaking… amazing ahaha!”
“Brother, get me coffee.” Xuan Mo stared at the screen.
“Ah? Oh oh!” Lu Yu Chen ran over to the bar immediately as she’d said. While Ah La Lei’s internet cafe was well-equipped, you had to head over to get coffee on your own if you wanted any.
Ah La Lei puzzled over Xuan Mo choice of drink. She’d always drank nothing but plain water. Suddenly, he paused, his eyes blanking out for a moment, before he heard a voice that seemed to echo in his head: “You, think that Xuan Mo is possessed?”
