My Crazy Rich Family : Running From My Psycho Father - Chapter 116
Chapter 116: it’s all about Kara.
“Did he?” Joan asked them, she had a grin on her face as called their attention to Jackson on the phone. “He is calling a trophy maker, you all!”
Jackson turned around and looked at them.
“Hey, are you guys paying cash or with a card for my trophy? My trophy maker wants to know”
“Okay, you are impossible Dad!” Mckenna finally accepted.
She was about to say more when her phone rang. At first she thought it was Jason but then it dawned on her that it wasn’t.
“Hello, who is this?”
Mckenna listened for about five seconds before she grabbed her handbag in a hurry.
“Mckenna, what is it?” Jackson asked as she tried to run out.
“It’s my daughter. She is in the hospital, again. I need to go” Mckenna walked away.
She hurriedly entered the car and tried to drive off when Amazing made her intention known. She wanted to follow Mckenna.
Amazing opened the door and entered.
“What are you doing?” Mckenna asked her
“Dad says I should go with you”
“Fine” Mckenna murmured and drove off.
When she got to the hospital Kara’s teacher had taken her to, she was almost out of her mind.
Was Kane back and no-one told her? Wasn’t Naya supposed to be keeping the psycho far away from her family and the girl she loves?
What the hell was Naya even doing?
She rushed into the reception with Amazing right behind her.
“Hi, I am Mrs Ekoh-Yagazie. My daughter was rushed in here a few minutes ago. Where is she?”
The nurse behind the table smiled warmly like it was meant to be soothing before she spoke to Mckenna.
“Good day ma, may I know her name?”
“Kara Hope Yagazie”
She typed something into the computer and then she looked up.
“She is in room 39”
Mckenna took off in search of the room, she should probably call her husband and Naya to fill them in except even though she doesn’t mind calling Naya, Jason on the other hand she was reluctant to call. He was probably kissing some girl out there named Tamara.
Mckenna grabbed the door knob and she pushed it open. She saw Kara’s teacher first, sitting by the window with her eyes glued to the phone.
Her little girl was on the bed with her eyes closed.
She dropped her bag on the floor and Amazing picked it up. Mckenna sat beside Kara and she touched her hair. She was hot to the touch.
“Hey, Baby girl”
Mckenna ran her fingers through her thick black hair and pushed some rogue strands out of her face.
She stirred before she opened her tiny weak eyes.
“Mommy” she murmured and tried to move closer.
“I am here, Sweetheart” Mckenna reassured her and she closed her eyes again.
“The doctor is still running some tests and he will be back soon, Mrs Ekoh-Yagazie. But she is fine, it’s probably malaria, I only brought her in just in case…. better safe than sorry, right?” The teacher’s voice startled Mckenna at first. She had an unusually loud voice.
“Thank you, Ms. I am here now, you may go about your activities. My sister will refund your expenses” Mckenna told the teacher.
The lady nodded and walked away. Mckenna could hear Amazing counting money but she didn’t pay any attention any further. She had more important things to do like call her cheating husband and his former mistress.
Mckenna exhaled. It wasn’t fair to refer to Naya in that light, since she never tried to kiss her husband or ruin her home.
“Amazing, can you stay with Kara? I need to make some calls”
“Sure”
Mckenna excused herself and left. The first person she called was Naya.
*****
Naya stirred and opened her eyes; the rays of sunlight went directly to her eyes from the open window. If only she had magical power to command the curtain to close without moving a muscle. Naya turned to the other side, away from the rays of sunlight and closed her eyes again.
It had rained the night before, with thunderstorms and lightning. And she barely got any sleep or made it home before the downpour.
Making sure that Kane stayed out of her daughter’s life was becoming a full time job. So far he had framed her for minor crimes like jaywalking or she would be stopped by a patrol car for no reason at all.
She spent a night in jail for drinking under the influence when she wasn’t drunk. She hated alcohol.
She really didn’t mind as far as Kane stayed away from her little girl.
And it wasn’t like she was making his life a bed of roses either.
So far, she had wrecked three relationships for Kane by showing up on his dates. Once she broke into his house to leave a message for him. Naya was doing everything to keep Kane focused on her and away from Nigeria.
Naya’s mind went back and forth on different things until her phone rang and she was forced to open her eyes.
“Hello. Speak!” Naya was too tired for pleasantries.
“Naya, it’s Mckenna…”
Naya’s eyes opened wider. If Mckenna was calling her then it has something to do with her daughter.
“What is wrong with Kara?” Naya asked bluntly.
There was no need to beat around the bush.
“She is sick and in the hospital. The doctor is running some tests. We think it’s malaria” Mckenna explained.
“I swear to God, sometimes I forget that Africa still has those diseases that are almost extinct here. I mean who the hell gets malaria anymore” Naya asked.
She wasn’t expecting an answer. She was just venting.
“I am handling things here if you want to stay back but I think Kara wants to see you. You should make the trip. It will mean a lot” Mckenna encouraged her.
“I will do my best. Goodbye Mckenna”
****
Mckenna hung up. She had one more person to call. Reluctantly, she dialed his phone number.
“Hi honey” he voice was cheerful.
Mckenna swallowed the lump in her throat.
“Jason, where are you?”
“Currently, I am…”
Mckenna cut him off. She didn’t want to add lying to the list of things she was holding against him.
“Whatever…our daughter is sick. You remember Kara, right? The little girl you adopted, well, she is in the hospital. So, if you could make out time to come and see her, that would be appreciated. Thanks, bye bye”
“Mckenna…” Jason started to say but she hung up on him.
Mckenna sent the address and the room number to him. When she went back inside, Kara was still asleep.
She sat down and she held her hand until Jason arrived five minutes later.
Mckenna was shocked when Tamara and EJ walked in after him.
“Seriously, dude?” Amazing was surprised too.
“What’s she doing here?” Mckenna asked him and stood up immediately.
“Mckenna, calm down…she is a doctor, remember? One of the best” Jason replied and went straight to his daughter on the bed.
“Hey, bean”
Kara hated the noise. She simply wanted to close her eyes and just drift off to sleep. And she hoped the adults would figure it out soon enough and stop disturbing her.
Mckenna folded her arms into her armpit and watched them, mostly because she didn’t want to watch Tamara Jones.
“Just let her sleep Jason!” Mckenna snapped at him.
Jason was too worried about Kara to see that something else was going on with his woman.
“Okay, just sleep” he soothed her by rubbing her hair.
“Will my sister be alright?” EJ asked them.
“Of course, sweetheart” Tammy answered her daughter.
The doctor walked inside before Jason could say something to EJ.
“What is wrong with my daughter?” Jason asked but Mckenna had something else on her mind.
“Tamara, can you please excuse us? This is a family matter” Mckenna insisted.
“Mckenna…”
“It’s okay, Jason. She is right. EJ and I will be down the hall. Come on, EJ”
Tamara grabbed her daughter’s hand and she started walking away when the girl asked a question.
“Am I not family?”
Tamara closed the door before Mckenna could hear the answer to the question.
“What is wrong with my daughter?” Mckenna asked the doctor.
“Kara has a post op complication common with a burst appendix. She has a ball of pus, what we call an abscess and it needs to be drained surgically” The doctor explained to them.
“You want to put my kid through another surgery because you screwed up the first time?” Jason asked the doctor.
“It’s a common complication, Mr Ekoh-Yagazie. We can fit her in for surgery in two hours” The doctor told him.
“You are not going anywhere near my daughter. Outside this room is a world class trauma surgeon, can she operate on her instead?” Jason asked him.
“You are kidding me! You are freaking kidding me!” McKenna’s voice was loud.
“Excuse us, doctor” Jason opened the bathroom and pulled his wife inside and locked the door.
“What is your problem? Tamara is the best choice” Jason tried to reason with her.
“Obviously!” Mckenna told him in a voice laced with acid. “But your whore is not operating on my daughter”
