My Crazy Rich Family : Running From My Psycho Father - Chapter 120
Chapter 120: Jason and his three wise women.
Jason had to vocally remind himself that everything was going to be okay as he made his way to the table. He thought Chike was tagging along until he heard his retreating footsteps.
Jason turned around and grabbed his shirt.
“If I am sitting through this awkward lunch with them, you will too because friends don’t abandon each other by taking the easiest way out, Chike”
Chike scratched his hair and exhaled.
“But I really have to…”
“No” Jason shut his excuse down.
“Your mother wanted me to…”
“No! We are doing this together or so help me God, I will hop on that table and tell everyone that you are a CIA agent!” Jason threatened through his clenched jaw.
He was desperate.
“I am not a CIA agent. How many times will I tell you that, Yagazie?” Chike asked his friend.
“I. Don’t. Care. You are doing this with me, Chike”
“Fine. Maybe, in the next life, don’t sleep with so many women”
Chike sneered at him.
“See kettle calling pot black. You sleep around too…okay, maybe not as much as I did but you are not a monk either, Chike”
“Yeah plus, I don’t have two different baby mamas and a current wife! Fine, I will sit through this awkward lunch but you have to choose, me or Tammy who is your real best friend” Chike watched him intently. He was serious.
“Dude, are you being serious?”
“Yes…I am serious…like a heart attack. I or Tamara Jones, you have to pick?” Chike asked him.
“You know you are being borderline difficult, Chike. Honestly, you are behaving like a child!” Jason snapped at him.
“Dude, you are hurting my feelings. Just choose me already or I am leaving” Chike pointed towards the door.
“Fine. You are my best friend, Chike” Jason admitted.
“You are damned right, I am and it’s time we let your baby mama Tamara know that too. Let’s go” Chike walked ahead of him.
“I swear you are a child sometimes, Chike” Jason murmured under his breath.
Naya, McKenna and Tamara waited for Jason and Chike to take their seats. They could see the intense conversation going on between them.
“What do you think they are talking about?” Tamara asked no one in particular.
“They are probably arguing about something totally ridiculous” McKenna answered and spared a glance at Tamara.
The woman might have saved her daughter’s life but just looking at her sends her to the edge of razor sharp anger which she was trying to hide.
Naya dropped her fork and looked up.
“Chike wants to know whether he is still Jason’s best friend or if he is choosing Tamara as his best friend” Naya informed them.
“You can’t be sure of that” Tamara told her.
“I am. I read his lips” Naya answered.
“What…exactly was his answer?” Tamara asked her.
Tamara had no idea why she wanted to know. She simply chalked it up to curiosity.
“Chike always gets what he wants at the end of the day. Sorry” Naya murmured.
Tamara was a little disappointed but she kept her disappointment to herself.
“What were you expecting? Did you think he would cast his best friend of many years aside because you showed up with his kid?” Mckenna asked her.
She was really talking about herself. She was asking Naya whether she expected Jason to leave his wife of almost a year for her just because she showed up.
Tamara got the hidden question and she answered accordingly.
“Of course not, he already made his choice of best friend and whatever petty jealousy ‘this best friend’ is feeling is completely unwarranted” Tamara whispered to her.
“Well, maybe not…maybe the real best friend found out that he kissed you under my roof!” Mckenna told her through her clenched jaw.
“Jas…Jason didn’t kiss me. I kissed him and I have apologized to him and to you. Can we just move on from it?” Tamara asked her.
“We would but…” McKenna wanted to bring up the playground event that happened in the mansion but Jason and Chike approached them and sat down.
“Hey, Ladies!” Chike smiled and waved like he was still in kindergarten.
“You must be Tammy. Hi, I am Chike, Jason’s best friend, right Yagazie?”
Jason glared at him
Chike smiled.
“Beautiful. Let this awkward lunch begin and Naya, you look stunning as usual”
***”
Elixir sat on the sofa and watched her granddaughter sleep. Spencer was supposed to fly into the country for the week before they can both announce the engagement to Jason and to the whole world but Elixir needed to finish her primary election first which she had already done yesterday and the result will be up in an hour or so.
There was a slight knock on the door and it opened.
“Hello, April”
“Ma, you have a call from your soon to be defeated opponent”
April was her personal assistant since Elixir didn’t want Terry, her assistant when she was CEO of Elixir Yagazie corp. to be involved in politics and risk her life for her.
April was excellent at her job and she was cunning just the right amount to prevent Elixir from firing her.
She was smart and very good at assisting her campaign manager too.
“We don’t know if I am going to win. Did you clear my schedule for next week? It’s my son’s wedding in Canada. I hate that nobody is talking about that anymore.” Elixir said and looked away.
The phone April was holding started ringing again.
“Ma, it’s Mr. Ezekwe, I think your opponent really wants to talk to you.”
“Fine. Give me the phone”
Elixir took the phone April offered and picked the call.
“This is not a good time, Mr. Ezekwe” Elixir’s voice was neutral but her countenance was that of a person forced to have a conversation with someone she didn’t really like.
“Do you think you can destroy my reputation and blow up my marriage without consequences, Elixir?” The voice was loud and threatening and Elixir placed it on speaker and pressed record.
“You may want to watch your tone with me, Ezekiel. If you don’t know that by now then you are a fool that has no business going for a public office” Elixir answered calmly.
“Oh shut up, Elixir! You are just a little girl that was fortunate enough to be allowed to run a company owned by her daddy. You shouldn’t speak when men are speaking and you have no right to have me investigated by the EFCC for money laundering when you are the bigger thief!”
Elixir laughed softly like Ezekiel’s words weren’t getting to her.
“I might be daddy’s little girl but I can tell you almost with certainty that this little girl that is walking around with her daddy’s money just beat your miserable able-bodied ass in the election. So don’t be a sore loser, Mr Macho man. And threatening me is a bad idea because you might be an annoying…persistent noisy mosquito, harmless but down right irritating and sooner rather than later, I have to do something about it. History shows that the mosquito always loses. So, Bitch bye!” Elixir passed her message across in a very calm voice.
“You destroyed my livelihood and I promise you that I won’t sit quietly. What I will take from you will be more important than your life! Be warned, Yagazie!”
The line went dead.
April stared at Elixir in horror. It was a serious matter and she hoped that her boss would acknowledge that it was indeed a serious matter.
“Ma’am, we need to report this to the authorities. We need to go to the police. He just threatened you” April moved closer to her.
“Report it to the police, so they can drag their arses and end up doing nothing? No, take the recording to my campaign manager. I will handle the rest”
April took the phone and left.
Elixir took her personal phone and he called Spencer.
“Hello, darling!”
“Spence, how are you doing?”
“I am doing okay. About to head to the airport, any moment from now Sweetheart…I just need to handle some business meetings first” Andrew Spencer answered.
Elixir could hear flipping of documents over the phone.
“Yeah, Spence…maybe you should stay back in Canada…”
“Elixir, are you backing out of the engagement, already?” Spencer asked her.
“Technically, I haven’t said yes yet….and no, I am not backing out. my feelings for you are the same, Honey. I just mean, there is no need for you to come to Africa when Jason’s wedding will be in Canada next week. And you are my date. So, stay and take care of your business and next week, we will see each”
“Alright…honestly I have more work here to do anyway but I miss you” Spencer told her.
“I miss you too. I have to go now, Spencer. Bye”
Elixir ended the call. And she placed another call immediately.
“Hey, Zadok. I am going to need your team. Someone just threatened my life…again”
“We are on the next plane out of New York, ma’am”
The phone went dead.
Even though Elixir just hired a bunch of special bodyguards from New York, her mind was uneasy.
Ezekiel’s threat bothered her.
What was more important to her than her life?
