My Crazy Rich Family : Running From My Psycho Father - Chapter 97
Chapter 97: Who killed that boy?
“Mom…mom!” Kara watched Mckenna closely as she called out to her.
They had been sitting in the car for over two minutes but Mckenna starred in empty space.
When the principal came to inform her that Mckenna was waiting for her in the car park of the school, she thought it was bizarre. Her mother never showed up to school without a reason and staring into empty space was not enough reason for her to miss her mathematics class.
Kara acknowledged that Mckenna has been acting weird since morning.
First, she gave her the talk about the dangers of car accidents then she made her promise to never go near a moving car.
Kara knew it was weird but she gave her word just to speed things along.
“Mom!” Kara touched her hand. “I have a mathematics lesson. What do you want?”
Mckenna blinked and returned to the present. “Sorry, I just needed to see your face. Go on, you can go back to class”
Kara had a frown. That reason wasn’t a good enough reason to miss a school lesson she absolutely loves but she didn’t press the matter further.
“Can I have some money?” Kara told her with an outstretched hand.
She knew that Mckenna would ask her questions before giving her a penny like she always does but not this time. She watched as her mother opened the bag and took out cash.
Mckenna handed over a couple of the bills to her and asked her to leave.
“I will pick you up in five hours after school, bye Kara”
“Byebye” Kara opened the door and watched as she drove off.
After Mckenna drove off, she stopped by the roadside and she sent a text to the number.
(Fine. Let’s meet)
Five seconds later, a text message entered her phone with the address of the meet.
Mckenna wondered whether she should inform Jason of what was going on or maybe Elena since she might be meeting with a wannabe bad guy but she didn’t.
The place he chose was secluded but not dangerous. Mckenna rampaged through her bag and took out her pepper spray just in case she needed to defend herself.
She entered the local restaurant and waited. Ten minutes later she was approached by a nerdy looking early twenties young man with reading glasses.
“Are you Mrs Ekoh-Yagazie?”
“I am and you have my interest for five more minutes before I walk out the door forever” Mckenna told him and asked him to sit down.
The nerdy guy nodded and sat down. He pushed the glasses further into his face as he spoke nervously to Mckenna.
“I have this hobby. Most people think it’s unusual. I like watching birds….”
Mckenna was getting impatient. She had left her job, pulled her daughter out of her class for what…birds? Uh-huh, this guy better come up with a legitimate reason or she was prepared to empty the pepper spray in his face just for the fun of it.
“I am very close to losing my temper and patience” Mckenna told him.
“No…I promise, I am just getting to the part you want to hear. Because I love bird watching, I set up some bird camera’s In some places to take videos at night and every two days I would check them. The last time I checked the one near the site of the accident on the news, I saw everything. My video camera recorded the whole crime and I swear, the man that got down to check on the child was Jackson Donna…your father”
The boy opened his bag and took out his phone. He played the video without the audio for Mckenna and he wasn’t wrong.
She could see her father exit the car to check on the child but then Mckenna watched with horror as he left the child there and drove off.
“Oh my God!” Mckenna whispered as her heart did a somersault severally.
“Have you shown this to the police?”
The boy took back the phone from her. He pushed the glasses deeper into his face.
“No! Of course not! I am not ready to throw away my life and the life of my family by taking on the richest families in the country. I won’t. I just called you here to give you the tape in exchange for some money to leave the country” The boy told her and gave a paper containing a number.
“You want 2 million naira?!” Mckenna asked in between her clenched teeth. “How did you even get my number?”
“I found an old Facebook account with a visible phone number. It turns out, I was lucky. You are still using the same number”
Mckenna was lost in her head for a second. She was mortified and she tried to think but her mind was in chaos.
She spent an hour more there before she left.
*
She couldn’t believe what she had just done.
No…no, she couldn’t believe she just paid 1 million naira to acquire a tape. A crime tape and she had make the boy destroy any copies he made.
“Crap! Crap!” She banged her hand on the car dashboard.
After some minutes, she took out her phone and dialed Jackson Donna’s number.
He picked up.
“Hello, Mckenna”
“We need to talk. We need somewhere private to talk urgently. Come to my house. Nobody is home and it’s secure. Please, be there in twenty minutes, Jackson”
Mckenna didn’t give him the chance to argue when she hung up.
Mckenna drove back to her home and she waited patiently for Jackson to show up at her home for the first time.
She was tempted to send an address of her duplex to him but she had a feeling that Jackson already knew where she lived. He was the type of man to keep tabs on people.
Mckenna opened a bottle of wine to calm her nerves. She knew she was slowly turning into an alcoholic who hid her panic or emotions with a good wine.
It was no surprise, it didn’t start today. She guessed she was one of those people who loved drinking.
Jackson drove inside the compound a few minutes after the time he was allocated. Mckenna opened the door for him and he matched inside.
She quickly poured a full glass of wine and she swallowed it in a gulp before she turned to her father to open the gateman to hell on him.
“Mckenna, what was so urgent I had to cancel a business lunch to be here?” Jackson’s gruff voice further irritated Mckenna.
Wait! Was he complaining about a business lunch? A freaking business lunch? He killed a child for Christ’s sake.
“You’ve outdone yourself, Jackson. You’ve finally risen to the status of devil’s incarnate” Mckenna told him and took a sip from the glass.
“If you brought me here to insult me then I will simply turn around and leave” Jackson said and tried to leave.
“The child you left to die by the side of the road, he was seven and half. He was my daughter’s age, you son of the devil! How could you leave him there? How could you not help him?” Mckenna poked her finger at his back and Jackson turned around.
The horror on his face confirmed what she already knew, her father was the devil himself.
“I don’t know what you are talking about” Jackson tried to play clueless but Mckenna won’t buy it. She had a video safely tucked into her car that said otherwise.
“I have proof, you evil man. And I am going to take it to the cops. This is all my fault. If I didn’t stop the IRS from locking your sorry ass that child who be alive”
Mckenna stopped poking his chest and stood still for a moment.
“I am sorry. I am even more sorry that your twin would grow up without a father but I can’t be quiet. I am turning you in for murder, Mr. Donna”
Mckenna grabbed her car keys and her handbag to leave but Jackson stopped her.
“I am your father, Omasirichukwu!”
Mckenna stopped. Did he just call her by her native name?! The name she shares with her dead mother, the woman he abandoned to die during childbirth for lack of medical amenities?
Did he just play the father card with her?
Mckenna started laughing. It wasn’t funny but it was the only thing that made sense at that moment.
“Since when did you become my father? Was it when you turned your back on me at birth ? Or when you sent that lawyer with money to pay me to go away and keep our relationship to myself? You are not my father, Jackson. You are just a part of me I really want to kill off and you may not pay for everything you did to me and my dead mother but you will rot for murder”
Mckenna grabbed the door knob but Jackson put himself between the door and her. He was a big man and she was just half his size.. For a split second, she thought he was going to hit her.
