My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 48
: Hooking Fish or Hooking People
If you wanted to fish, you first needed a fishing rod.
Though Di Jiufeng was a bit unhappy with Ning Guang, in order to complete the mission as soon as possible, she still dragged her off to the market. Because they were in a seaside town, fishing rods, bait, and fish baskets were all readily available. Di Jiufeng purchased a full set, and took her disciple to the shore.
It was a bright and clear day, and the temperature was just right. A light breeze brushed past from time to time, raising ripples on the sea.
This was the best kind of weather for fishing. Di Jiufeng pulled her disciple to the harbor. She baited the hook, then tossed it far out into the water. She tried to stuff the fishing rod into Ning Guang’s hands, but got grabbed from behind, her hands held tight.
“A-Feng, since you want to teach me how to fish, you can’t be a hands-off teacher.”
Ning Guang sat down, then pulled Di Jiufeng to sit across her lap. She placed her mouth close to Di Jiufeng’s ear, warm breath burning a patch of crimson on her earlobe.
“That resentful ghost of yours is stupid, but it was not wrong. A-Feng, why are you displeased? Why do you have to bully it?”
Di Jiufeng humphed, then snapped her head around to glare at her. “I’m displeased with everything! I am your shifu, why does it call you boss! And you were the one who hit it, not me! Why does that count as me bullying it?”
Some things, Di Jiufeng thought, needed to be made clear.
But Ning Guang did not speak, only the corner of her mouth lifted in a silent smile.
In Di Jiufeng’s eyes, this was a bare-faced taunt. Furious, she wrestled her hands out of Ning Guang’s grip, grabbed her cheeks, and shook hard. “Do you not agree? Then you go to Gui Hun island by myself! I’m going back to Pear Peak! Humph!”
After scolding Ning Guang, Di Jiufeng reached for the ground, trying to escape from her hold.
Ning Guang figured there was nothing wrong with giving her a verbal victory and reached out to scoop her back, then spoke next to her cheek. “Okay, okay, okay. Whatever you say, A-Feng, whatever you say goes.”
A cool breeze rolled over, but sweeping over the two, it seemed as if even the breeze was suffused with warmth.
With this brush of skin, Di Jiufeng turned into a flustered mess, her previous haughtiness completely gone, her delicate hands fisted tight in the sleeves of her robe. “Either way, either way, do not collude with that resentful ghost in the future…”
She slowly scooted down, pressing closer and closer to Ning Guang, until in the end, her whole body was curled in Ning Guang’s embrace. She turned and rubbed her forehead against the crook of Ning Guang’s neck, a faint smile curving her lips.
And then she ran as soon as she was done, like a little rabbit that had tugged the wolf’s tail, hopping away.
Ning Guang caught her again, and pressed her back against her chest. “A-Feng, what are you running for? You don’t want to take responsibility?” Her clear and melodious voice sounded like a guqin in Di Jiufeng’s heart, playing the tune of a phoenix seeking its mate. She did not speak, only lowered her head and giggled to herself in Ning Guang’s arms.
[T/N: The ‘feng’ (凤) in Di Jiufeng’s name means ‘phoenix’.]
The warm sunlight spilled down, raising a golden halo on the two figures.
Crimson and white robes folded together like twin lotuses on a single stalk, blooming like wildfire. They were too intimate, that poignant affection making it so that no one on the beach wanted to disturb them. Gradually, all the people at the harbor scattered, leaving only the two holding each other.
She had come to the harbor to teach Ning Guang to fish, but now, Di Jiufeng didn’t feel like doing that anymore.
She didn’t want to watch the fishing rod. She only wanted to curl up in Ning Guang’s arms and count her heartbeats one by one. The fishing rod was placed to the side. No one was watching it, but a fish had taken the bait. The fishing rod shook, and Ning Guang casually swept it up, a leaping fish delivered into the basket, splashing her all over with water.
“A-Feng, is this enough?” Ning Guang asked.
Di Jiufeng was just about to reply when she heard a spoiled-sounding voice shout from far away. “Wretched woman, who let you hug my benefactor, get out of here!”
The moment Ji Liuran opened her mouth, the System let out a ‘beep’, and said, “Congratulations, honorable host, mission completed.”
Hearing the System’s words, Di Jiufeng instantly realized that she had been tricked. She did not waste any words on the System, only pulled Ning Guang closer and said, “That resentful ghost knew Ji Liuran would come, but it refused to tell me. It definitely resents me.”
Ning Guang believed her without hesitation. She gathered up her demonic energy and poured it towards the System.
A towering wave of gloomy demonic energy swept over, making the System feel death pressing down. It shook, then kneeled down with a plop. “I was wrong I was wrong, I’ll never do it again, I only wanted to annoy my honorable host a bit…”
Ning Guang laughed coldly, the sound like frost in the dead of winter. “You wanted to annoy A-Feng?! What do you think you are?! You dare anger my A-Feng! Do you not want to live anymore!”
The demonic energy coalesced into a blade, its tip slowly dragging down the computer chip.
She was completely merciless, carving a crack in the chip with a single stroke. Sparks flew, and thin arcs of electricity flowed over the chip.
The System was really about to die. Fear overflowed, making its entire chip tremble and shake uncontrollably. Cries of terror flowed out from its mouth but could not penetrate the barrier made by the demonic energy, choked off near the source.
“Ning Guang, leave it alive.”
After all, she and the System were bound together, and it had accompanied her for a long time. Di Jiufeng was not a hateful and malicious person. Seeing it cry in despair, a wisp of pity rose in her heart. She pushed on Ning Guang’s hand, having her retract her demonic energy.
The dark clouds scattered in an instant, letting the System once again see hope. It collapsed in a little space, its entire chip shaking all over. “H-H, Honorable host, I-I-I will be your most loyal underling from now on!” It wailed and sobbed, tossing out a projection, latching onto Di Jiufeng’s ankle like holding a parent returned from the grave.
Before, the System still had its own selfish motives. After all, it only listened to her because it was coerced by the ancient witch.
But after walking the line between life and death, the System suddenly realized that its host was quite good to it. They had known each other for so long, the System knew very well what sort of person Di Jiufeng was. She was not malicious, her heart was kind, as long as others were good to her, she would do all she could to return the favor.
As a System, it was full of selfish motives, but though Di Jiufeng sometimes jumped up and down in anger, she never actually had the ancient witch dispose of it, only let it off after a couple of verbal threats.
And today, though it knew how much Ji Liuran annoyed its host, it had not told her.
It wanted to get a bit of revenge, but looking back, it really had been too stupid.
––What good was it to make trouble for its host? They had been bound together long ago, they would enjoy the same glories and suffer the same defeats.
The System was completely obedient now, Di Jiufeng was quite satisfied. She flicked her ankle, tossing the stick figure covered in tears and snot onto the ground. “Then tell me, do you have any way to handle her?” Di Jiufeng asked, pointing at the Ji Liuran arriving by boat.
The System hit the ground and rolled quite a few times. As soon as it crawled to its feet, it bounced back over.
“Ji Liuran has a fate bestowed by the Heavenly Way. Before the time has come, even if we kill her, someone will resurrect her. But as long as she does not die, even if she becomes an imbecile or the living dead, the Heavenly Way will not punish us. Honorable host, I am already proficient at controlling lightning strikes. If I raise it to the highest setting, it can wipe all of her memories, she will not even remember who she is.”
The System had squeezed its brain empty to think of this plan.
Di Jiufeng blinked. Wasn’t this a bit too much?
Though Ji Liuran was annoying, in the end, she was only fighting for the person she liked. She was not wrong, she had even helped Ning Guang. Even if Di Jiufeng disliked her a lot, considering that she had given a helping hand to Ning Guang, she had not planned to hold it against her. At most, she would only beat her up to vent her anger.
But in the next second, Di Jiufeng changed her mind.
Having failed to chase Di Jiufeng away, Ji Liuran scoured her face with a gaze dipped in poison. Before the passenger ship had even reached the shore, she flew over the bow of the ship with a tap of her toes.
Ji Liuran glared, mouthful of teeth nearly shattered from how hard she was clenching them. “You shameless woman, throwing yourself into her arms in broad daylight! I told you to get out, are you deaf or do you not understand what I’m saying?!”
“I’m not deaf, and I do understand what you’re saying, but I won’t get up. What are you going to do about it?”
Di Jiufeng did not have a great temper. Having been accused to her face, she dropped all pretenses right away. She cast a glance at Ji Liuran out of the corner of her eye, while her hand secretly pinched Ning Guang’s waist. “Even if I never get up, no one will chase me away. But you are not the same. Why don’t you come over here and try, see if you’ll get tossed in the sea or buried in the sand.”
Di Jiufeng was unhappy, and Ning Guang got caught in the backlash.
The first moment Ji Liuran had opened her mouth, she had already wanted to beat her up with demonic energy. But before she could act, Di Jiufeng had pushed her down. Di Jiufeng did not have a good expression on her face, threat written from head to toe. Though Ning Guang knew she was a paper tiger, she still had a temper.
Ning Guang furrowed her brow. Ji Liuran was less and less pleasing to look at.
But just then, Ji Liuran suddenly shot a few arrows dipped in poison, like she had no idea of death or danger. Dim streaks of blue light like poisonous snakes with their maws gaping open viciously flew towards Di Jiufeng’s face and neck.
“Ah, if you can’t win the argument, then you attack? You really think that no one will dare touch you just because you’re the Ji family’s first young mistress? In this place, the heavens are high and the emperor is far away! If I really wanted to take your life, do you think your dad would know?!”
Di Jiufeng’s eyes grew cold, and she shot out like a graceful bird.
She was a Late-Stage Deity Transformation cultivator, a level far above what Ji Liuran could resist.
Even covered in defensive spiritual treasures, the instant Di Jiufeng took out Hong Shang, Ji Liuran lost control of her spiritual energy under the immense pressure. As a Nascent Soul cultivator, she could not yet walk across open air, and once she lost control of her flight, her body dropped straight into the water.
Di Jiufeng just watched, and did not even reach to pull her up.
Stepping across empty air, her nimble body wrapped in wide red robes, she looked like a red lotus furiously blooming on the jade lake of Mount Kunlun, a type of untouchable severity that did not even permit too close a glance.
“You want to take my life? Ji Liuran, the poison on these arrows is Zui Hong Xiang, not even your dad could survive it!”
Ji Liuran landed in the sea, and struggled for a while before finally emerging at the surface of the water. She was soaked through, and had even drunk several mouthfuls of seawater. She had never been humiliated to this degree in her whole life. Right then, the flames of fury in her chest all rushed to her head. She couldn’t take it anymore. She opened her mouth and cursed, “I want to kill you, who told you to be so tactless, insisting on clinging on to my Ning Guang!
Listen up, every day you refuse to leave Ning Guang, will be a day I will not let you go. Not only do I want to kill you, I want to peel off your skin, draw out your bones, and place them in the dark lands of the far north, you’ll never get the chance to reincarnate!”
She spoke with a pause after every word, full of malice.
Hearing this, Di Jiufeng laughed in anger. “Okay, okay, okay. You want to kill me, but do you not understand? You must keep your cards close to your chest. Telling me your plans like this, are you inviting someone to strike first?!” At the end, her voice suddenly grew cold.
Di Jiufeng beckoned to the System, and it obediently leaped into her hand.
“Honorable host, should I raise it to the highest setting? In fact, we can do it a bit at a time, electrocute her for a bit longer before raising it to the highest setting.”
Di Jiufeng shook her head and said coldly, “There’s no need. A long night brings many dreams. She is the Ji Family’s first young mistress after all, she may have some backup.”
[T/N: A long night brings many dreams, things are more likely to go wrong the longer you delay.]
“Alright, alright, as you command!”
The System bowed, then crossed its stick arms, striking an Ultraman transformation pose. Silver-white electricity flowed across its hands, leaking out here and there, a sight that made one’s heart tremble in fear.
“Honorable host, stand firm~. The highest setting is very powerful, you might get knocked backwards.”
Di Jiufeng nodded, and grabbed the System tight.
The electric arc was not large. It leapt out of Di Jiufeng’s hand like a bolt of lightning. Ji Liuran did not get the chance to react before this silver-white bolt of lightning struck through the top of her head.
A horrible pain like her flesh was being peeled from her bones flowed through her head, the weak nerves bursting one by one, making Ji Liuran scream like all her organs were being torn apart.
Her eyes popped, the whites filled with scarlet veins. “I didn’t kill, I didn’t kill, I’m not the one who wanted to kill you! Bastard, slut, why do you have to fight with me! It’s all your own fault! It’s all your own fault!” She flailed out a hand like she was going insane, tearing at her own hair with so much force that she pulled off a piece of skin.
Frightened by her deranged appearance, Di Jiufeng unconsciously took a step back.
She mumbled, “Isn’t she just supposed to lose her memory? How could it… how could it…”
The System threw itself by her hand, hugged her wrist, and played cute. “Before she loses her memories, all of them will replay. For her own memories to scare her so much, she must have tortured and killed many people in the past. Honorable host need not feel guilty, Ji Liuran brought this on herself. This sort of ending is what she deserves.”
Ning Guang had also walked over. She grabbed the System and tossed it to the ground, pressing it flat with her toes. “A-Feng, leaving her alive is merciful enough, this is a stroke of luck for her. Afterwards, if she conducts herself properly, we can leave her be, but if she does not, I will make sure she never gets the chance to reincarnate.”
A stream of demonic energy emerged from her hand, binding Ji Liuran and flinging her onto the ship.
Ning Guang tossed the scared-stiff boatman onto shore, then with a press of the hand, pushed the passenger ship back out to sea.
“Let fate run its course. Her luck will decide where she lands. A-Feng, it’s already late, let’s go back.”
Di Jiufeng said, “Wait.”
She looked at the boatman. Seeing this, the System rolled up from the ground and ran over on its short little legs. It touched the boatman’s foot, a flash of electricity running through its hand, and the boatman fell unconscious. “Honorable host, honorable host, when he wakes, he will not remember what happened today, you do not need to worry.”
Picking up the fishing tools at the harbor, Di Jiufeng took Ning Guang’s hand and walked back.
Maybe she had been in the sun for too long, or she was shocked by Ji Liuran’s sudden appearance.
Di Jiufeng’s chest felt a bit stuffy, her breath was not moving so smoothly, and her hands and feet grew colder and colder. Her body was seriously exhausted, indescribable fatigue pouring from her head. She wanted to rest a bit before continuing on, but before she could speak, her limbs went soft and she collapsed.
