My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 77
In order to maintain a harmonious home life, Ning Guang usually never refuted what Di Jiufeng said, but she couldn’t agree this time. After all, if she sounded too fake, she would only make Di Jiufeng unhappy. So, she stayed quiet in an abnormal show of obedience.
Ning Guang did not speak, and her brow stayed slightly creased, like she was thinking about something. Di Jiufeng looked at her for a while, subconsciously infected by her tension. She held her breath and asked quietly, “What, what are you thinking about?”
Ning Guang said, deadly earnest, “I was thinking about the future you talked about.”
Di Jiufeng paused, and her expression gradually grew serious. “En, it truly is very strange. I even wonder if it’s someone else pretending to be me.”
Ning Guang. “Perhaps it’s possible, it’s hard to say.”
She could think of thousands of possibilities for that scene off the top of her head, but unfortunately, there was no evidence to point her towards the correct answer. As they talked, they kept walking down, and before long, they saw Lin Hao pacing nervously back and forth at the foot of the mountain. Di Jiufeng stopped talking, and pulled Ning Guang over.
“You’re finally out.” Seeing the two of them, Lin Hao hurried over, an expression of relieved joy on his face.
Di Jiufeng smiled at him and asked, “And Qing Yu? Is she out?”
“Not yet.” Lin Hao shook his head.
Speaking of the devil, just when they were talking about Qing Yu, hurried footsteps sounded from behind them. Di Jiufeng turned to see Qing Yu hastily running down the mountain. “You came down so quickly! I ran into a maze array in the mountain, it took me so long to escape. I didn’t find that monk, what about you? Any results?”
Di Jiufeng looked at her in annoyance, raised an eyebrow, and said, “Of course, or else why would I have called you? Okay, let’s find a place to rest and reorganize, we can talk tomorrow.”
Because they were some distance from Tianyun City, Di Jiufeng and the others didn’t hurry back.
They found the closest village and found a family to host them for the night.
Night fell quickly. When everyone in the family had quieted down for the night, Di Jiufeng slipped out the door. Like they had read each other’s minds, as she pushed the door open, she saw Ning Guang step outside.
They did not say anything, only nodded at each other and closed their doors, walking outside in line.
On the way there, Di Jiufeng had paid attention to their surroundings. She knew that not far outside the village was a secluded little forest, that was Ning Guang’s objective as well. They walked away at a moderate speed. When they had left the village gates, Di Jiufeng hopped forwards and hugged Ning Guang’s arm. The moonlight was perfect, spilling over Ning Guang’s body like gleaming water, a thin layer of dazzling gauze draped over her body.
“How is it? Are you sure? There’s still the seal…”
Ning Guang didn’t let her finish before she leaned down to kiss her lips. If there weren’t pressing matters at hand, on a night with such nice moonlight, she would have to do something to ‘disrespect her elders’. But unfortunately, they had the core in hand, and if she didn’t absorb it into her dantian as soon as possible, it would just cause unnecessary worry.
Ning Guang sucked on her lips and bit at them, watching a layer of fog spread through her eyes, the red clouds on her cheeks even more tempting than the moonlight.
“A-Feng…” Ning Guang paused, an indescribable charm in her voice.
Di Jiufeng shuddered, and she felt like her body was about to go soft from the inside. “Go absorb the core. Watch the time, try to get back before daybreak. Though Qing Yu will buy us time, it’s not good to be out for too long.”
Ning Guang smiled, and her clear voice sounded as if it could resonate straight into Di Jiufeng’s heart. “What are you afraid of? I’m not going to eat you.” She hugged Di Jiufeng and spun in a half-circle. Seeing her curl into a ball in shock, Ning Guang let her dart away.
Di Jiufeng jogged a step away, looked back to see that Ning Guang was smiling at her, and slapped a hand over Ning Guang’s face.
“Don’t you understand to respect your master and value the Way?! If you keep being so presumptuous, I’ll expel you from my tutelage.”
Ning Guang was not afraid. She put a hand on the back of Di Jiufeng’s neck and lightly rubbed her earlobe. “You can expel me from my tutelage, that way I’ll have justification to take you as my wife. Why don’t you think about it, and pick a good day to declare it to the world?”
“Pah! You wish!”
Di Jiufeng spat at her, then turned around, playing aloof. But as she walked towards the path to the forest, she contemplated to herself the idea of getting married. She was suddenly looking forward to seeing Ning Guang in wedding robes. She would definitely be beautiful, and look great together with her!
Di Jiufeng suddenly turned and hugged Ning Guang. She leaned up and rested her chin on her shoulder. “When everything is over, when that future passes, let’s get married. I’ll give you the chance to ‘disrespect your elders’, do you want it?”
“Of course.” Ning Guang was excited, grabbing her hand almost urgently.
But Di Jiufeng refused to cooperate. She squirmed free from her hold. “Let’s hurry, there’s not a lot of time.” She darted away, her crimson robes fluttering behind her, as bright-red as her cheeks.
Ning Guang didn’t stop her, only speeding up to chase after her.
They walked quickly, and soon they arrived at the little forest. Di Jiufeng looked around. Seeing no one else around, she took out Shen City. She pulled Ning Guang inside and walked to a patch of dirt with no vegetation. She pointed at the icy-cold ground and said arrogantly, “Don’t destroy my Shen City, absorb the core here.”
As she spoke, she watched Ning Guang sit down. In the end, Di Jiufeng took pity on her and pulled out a mat for her to sit on. She wrung her hands, her brows twisted into a deep furrow. “Be careful, there are seals. And, watch out in case anyone laid any traps on the core. After all, it has been so many years, it’s best to be careful.”
“Don’t worry, I still have you, I won’t be careless.”
Ning Guang shooed Di Jiufeng almost a hundred yards away, then set a barrier around herself and sat cross-legged on the mat. Though there were seals, a crack had opened up in them. As long as it could meld with her dantian, she could slowly draw out the ghostly energy, expelling only the seals. It sounded easy enough, but if she didn’t control the speed properly, the ghostly energy would rush out all at once, and it could very likely shatter her dantian.
Ning Guang believed in herself, but she was afraid to be overconfident, especially when Di Jiufeng was still by her side.
She was not afraid of death, she was only afraid that if she could not control the explosion of ghostly energy, it would injure Di Jiufeng.
She looked deep into Di Jiufeng’s eyes. Seeing her wring her hands nervously, Ning Guang grew less nervous herself. She laughed and comforted her softly, “A-Feng, wait for me, I will be done soon.”
She closed her eyes and released the ghostly form, swallowing down the core in her hands.
In a split second, a roiling cloud of grey smoke exploded to fill the entire barrier, submerging Ning Guang in its depths.
Di Jiufeng couldn’t see her anymore, she could only see the ghostly energy growing stronger and weaker, before it reached a final equilibrium.
Waiting was probably the worst kind of torture. Di Jiufeng couldn’t see Ning Guang, and she didn’t know how far she had progressed in absorbing the core. She could only pace on the sidelines, nearly swallowed in burning nerves. Her thoughts began to get away from her, all kinds of grotesque scenes appearing before her eyes one after another, seizing her heart in their grip.
She felt like she couldn’t breathe.
But as time passed in minutes and seconds, as the sky outside turned fish-belly white, Ning Guang still did not appear.
Di Jiufeng couldn’t stand still, she wanted to go over to look. But just then, with a loud rumble, the ghostly energy exploded through the barrier and roiled out.
Di Jiufeng was frozen to the spot. She stared straight ahead, her head buzzing.
If she had successfully absorbed the core, Ning Guang would definitely come out. But the ghostly energy had already exploded, and Ning Guang’s silhouette still did not appear. What had happened?
Di Jiufeng was afraid to think about it. She could only clench her hands tightly and close her eyes, as if she could trick herself by refusing to look.
Bit by bit, her body went cold all the way through. Even her hands and feet felt numb. Di Jiufeng was dizzy, she was unable to think. She thought she was beginning to hallucinate when she heard Ning Guang say softly by her ear, “I am alright, open your eyes and look at me.”
Di Jiufeng tilted her head, afraid to reply.
Ning Guang was actually alright, Di Jiufeng had just scared herself stiff. When Ning Guang had finally walked out, Di Jiufeng was sitting on the ground, her eyes closed.
Her face was pale, both eyes closed tight. No matter how Ning Guang called out to her, she refused to listen.
Seeing her like this, Ning Guang felt more bad for her. She sighed, and when her hand first touched Di Jiufeng’s face, she saw her shiver like she had been shocked.
“Ning… Guang…” As a hand stroked her cheek, Di Jiufeng finally started to wake.
She opened her eyes and blinked, her gaze a bit scattered.
“I’m here…” Ning Guang leaned down and pressed their foreheads together.
Di Jiufeng finally came back to her senses, her voice hoarse and cracking, with a faint injured tone. “You scared me to death. If you had already absorbed the core, why didn’t you come out sooner?”
Di Jiufeng was soaked through with sweat. She had not felt it earlier, but now as she let out a sigh of relief, she felt her clothes sticking to her skin, unspeakably uncomfortable.
“Forget it, let’s go out, it’s already light.” She put a hand on the ground and climbed to her feet, but as she stood up, she staggered. She was a bit displeased, but undoubtedly happy. When she turned around, she felt a bit choked up, and the rims of her eyes felt warm.
Ning Guang didn’t let her get away, and stepped closer to hold her from behind.
“What were you afraid of? How could I leave you alone? If I couldn’t survive, I would definitely bring you with me.”
Shockingly, Di Jiufeng did not retort. She pursed her lips and said hoarsely, “That’s for the best.”
She had been terrified all night, and she was a bit tired. When they left Shen City, she ran back to her room to rest. As for Ning Guang, she went to create a body for Lin Hao.
Creating a body was not an easy task, and they worked for a long time. It was almost night when Ning Guang walked into Di Jiufeng’s room, holding the Lin family’s genealogical record. She had a dark expression on her face. Some of it was fatigue, but more was confusion.
