My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 79
Ever since she had transmigrated into the cultivation world, Di Jiufeng had rarely dreamed, but this time, she was going to drown in this dreamland. She couldn’t remember what she dreamed about, only that it was a very good dream, one she didn’t want to wake from.
She lingered in the dream for a long time. It felt as if her body was soaked in warm sunlight, until…
Until something happened, Di Jiufeng couldn’t remember exactly what, but in that moment, she felt as if her entire heart clenched. Right afterwards, she was shocked awake from the dream.
Di Jiufeng’s eyes snapped open and she shot up to a seated position, a somewhat piercing light rendering her vision blurry.
She reflexively closed her eyes, reaching to press a hand over her heart, which felt like it was beating out of her chest.
She was panting a bit, and her temples felt like they were going to burst open. Her brows creased tight, but at that time, a warm hand rubbed over her back. “A-Feng, does it still hurt?”
Ning Guang’s subdued and hoarse voice sounded by her ear. Her exhaustion was evident just from her voice, like she hadn’t slept in days, but she pressed it down, replacing it with a plainly exposed worry.
Di Jiufeng blinked, feeling a hand block the strong light.
“I am alright. I think I had a nightmare, but I can’t remember what I dreamed about.” She dazedly pressed a hand over her chest, feeling a bit empty. Di Jiufeng thought back, but couldn’t remember her dream. She sighed helplessly and rubbed her eyes, then leaned back and buried her face in Ning Guang’s neck.
“What happened to me? I remember, I think I ran into someone, and then, I fainted?”
Ning Guang hummed, then took her chin and pulled her away.
She carefully inspected Di Jiufeng’s complexion. Seeing that she was a bit pale, but didn’t show any excessive signs of pain, she let out a sigh of relief. “You were asleep for so long, A-Feng, you were asleep for almost ten days. Qing Yu already looked at you. It was because that demon cultivator forcibly gave her cultivation to you and broke the equilibrium in your body, that this would happen.”
“What equilibrium?” Di Jiufeng was a bit confused.
Ning Guang did not hide it from her. She gathered her words, then said, “Righteous cultivators can not cultivate the demonic path because spiritual energy and demonic energy are incompatible. If you do not scatter your own cultivation before starting to cultivate the demonic path, your soul will tear itself apart and you will die, this is your current state. But you are a bit different, because there is also ghostly energy in your body. It is like a needle and thread, passing between the two and forcing them to stay at an equilibrium point.
The demon cultivator boosting your cultivation seemed to be helping you, but in reality, she was trying to break this equilibrium and force you to come to the Lin family.”
Di Jiufeng understood the first part, but she didn’t understand what this had to do with the Lin family.
She asked Ning Guang about it, to hear her explain, “The Lin family’s current head could become the family head at so young an age for a reason. She can steal others’ cultivation through touch, no matter the status of their bloodline. The demonic energy in your body was already stirring, and once you attempted to train your cultivation, it would activate. But that demon cultivator must not have expected that you would not train for so long.
The demonic energy could not find a breakthrough point, so it could only stay in hibernation until you ran into this Lin Yunyou.
Reacting to her, the demonic energy began to fight with the spiritual energy in your body. The ghostly energy couldn’t subdue them, this was why you fainted.”
“Oh, that is to say, I am awake now because Lin Yunyou absorbed the excess demonic energy in my body?” Di Jiufeng was not stupid, she could understand this with a bit of thought.
She looked around the room, seeing that the decorations were very tasteful. Even the teacups lying scattered around were all priceless treasures.
“Are we at the Lin estate? Ning Guang, you didn’t beat them up on impulse, did you?”
“No, how could I do that? I was only thinking of you.” Ning Guang self-consciously rubbed her nose, hiding the stirring urges in her heart. At the time, if she wasn’t busy worrying about Di Jiufeng’s safety, she would have wanted to tear the Lin family down. Luckily, she hadn’t been so impetuous. If she really had taken Lin Yunyou’s life, Di Jiufeng may never have been able to wake.
“A-Feng, lie down for a bit longer, your complexion doesn’t look so good.” She pinched Di Jiufeng’s fingers. Feeling that her hands were frighteningly cold, she pulled up the brocade blanket, wrapping her securely inside. “I will go get Qing Yu, rest for a bit.”
Di Jiufeng stopped her, her expression open, with a slightly teasing smile.
“I am the one who’s ill, why does it seem like you’re the one with a head injury? Why are you leaving, don’t you have a communication talisman?”
Ning Guang started, then realized. “Right, why did I never think of that?” She knocked on her own forehead, but right after she pulled out the communication talisman, Di Jiufeng grabbed her hand.
She didn’t use a lot of force, but her voice was unyielding. “Don’t call her just now, I’m still tired, lie down with me for a bit. Wait for me to wake up again and call her then, okay? I feel alright, just a bit tired.” She held Ning Guang’s hand and swayed it back and forth, looking even more pampered and delicate with her sickly face.
She didn’t say any more, only looked at Ning Guang with misty eyes.
Ning Guang wanted to insist, but under that pleading gaze, her heart tightened into a knot.
Ning Guang sighed, then softened and burrowed into the blankets. She had just started to reach out when Di Jiufeng pressed herself into her arms.
Di Jiufeng was a bit shorter than her, and curled up in front of her like this, she seemed even more weak and pitiful. Ning Guang pulled her up a bit, letting her rest her head on her arm. “A-Feng, as long as I can see you wake up, I will not be tired. Don’t scare me again.”
Di Jiufeng let out a light hum, the nasal sound passing through her flesh straight into her heart.
She had watched over her for ten days and nights. Though Qing Yu had assured her that Di Jiufeng was alright, as long as she couldn’t see her open her eyes, it was like she was missing a chunk of her heart. She even wondered if Di Jiufeng would sleep on forever, just like this.
Ning Guang always thought that she was not afraid of death and she was not afraid of Di Jiufeng dying, because they had already been prepared to live under the same coat and die in the same hole. But these days, she suddenly realized that she was afraid of death. Not for some special reason, just because if she died, she would never see Di Jiufeng again.
She would never see her smile, never see her act out.
The fear and terror came in waves. Ning Guang even had an urge to pray to the Heavenly Way. So she prayed, prayed until she almost couldn’t take it, until Di Jiufeng finally woke up.
Ning Guang held her tight, a lump in her throat as she buried her nose in her neck.
Di Jiufeng was not tired, but Ning Guang was. When her heart had finally fallen back down to earth, she could finally have a peaceful rest. She slept for a long time, but Di Jiufeng did not sleep. Her whole body had gone numb, but in order to avoid waking Ning Guang, she resisted the urge to move. After all, her disciple always slept lightly, and if she moved, Ning Guang would wake no matter how tired she was.
Di Jiufeng lay cooperatively until she lost feeling in half her body, and Ning Guang finally woke up.
“Get up, get up, it’s already dark.” She leaned over and kissed Ning Guang’s chin, then pushed her away, ordering her to get some food. Then, she slowly sat up from the bed herself, stretching her stiff shoulders.
Perhaps it was because Ning Guang was worried, but not long after she left, she came back with Qing Yu and the food.
“My little ancestor, you’re finally awake.” Compared to Ning Guang, Qing Yu was not much better. One, because she was worried for her friend, and two, because Ning Guang had scared her––––
These ten days, she had seen Ning Guang’s expression get darker by the day, her breaths come shorter by the day. Sometimes she had to worry if Ning Guang was going to drive herself to death.
The brighter the flame of love, the shorter it burns. Qing Yu did not understand this saying before, but now she did.
“Of course I woke up, how could I not? I’m not like you, all single and alone.”
Qing Yu paused, then her face suddenly went dark. Fine! She can still make fun of her! That meant Di Jiufeng was recovering fine! She shouldn’t have worried about this damn couple, neither of them had a conscience. “Being all single and alone is my pride, I can do whatever I want! Not like you, you have to worry about each other’s opinion.”
Di Jiufeng looked at her in pity. Seeing that clear sympathy, Qing Yu was about to explode!
“I’m going back to the yao realm, don’t come looking for me again, I won’t see you!”
“Oh.” Di Jiufeng gave her an unusually cold response.
Qing Yu: “…”
This friendship was like a piece of paper, couldn’t withstand a single blow.
Though Di Jiufeng was upsetting her, Qing Yu still toiled to check her over. The joy she had held upon entering slowly disappeared and a frown showed on her face, holding an unconcealable worry and pessimism. “Jiufeng, I won’t lie to you, this is no help to you…” Qing Yu hesitated for a while, and finally spoke.
It was nothing Di Jiufeng couldn’t take, she just grabbed Ning Guang’s hand a bit harder. “Talk, no need to keep things from me.”
Qing Yu nodded and said quietly, “The equilibrium has already been broken. Though Ning Guang’s ghostly energy is helping to preserve it for now, this cannot go on for long. Jiufeng, there is nothing I can do. This demonic energy is rooted in your soul, even Lin Yunyou cannot remove it completely. You may, you may…” Qing Yu clenched her teeth, but was unable to get out the last few words.
Di Jiufeng looked at her and said calmly, “I don’t have long to live, right? Just tell me, how long do I have left?”
Qing Yu clenched her teeth and said in a trembling voice, “No more than a month at most. If the equilibrium had not been broken, you may have had some hope, but now, your soul is already starting to scatter. Jiufeng, even using the second body, I can only help you delay it for a month. Because what is injured is your soul, not your body, not your dantian, nor your bones…”
Life depended on the soul. Without the soul, how could one live on?
Di Jiufeng was very calm. She had even begun to think about how they should spend this last month. She had probably been scared by Ning Guang too many times, so when she was facing death for real, she was not very afraid.
Di Jiufeng was calmer than she had ever been, but Ning Guang suddenly squeezed her hand tight.
There was both gentle affection and the stubbornness of someone willing to destroy it all in that pair of eyes which were always trying to drown her in their depths. “A-Feng, I was wrong. I suddenly realized that I don’t want you to die at all. Though I know it’s very selfish of me, but can’t you, can’t you live on for me…”
“You have a way to let me live?” Di Jiufeng asked.
Ning Guang had not yet replied when she heard Qing Yu speak, her fists clenched, an expression of disbelief on her face. “You’re crazy! Ning Guang! Don’t you know what you’re doing?” For some reason, Qing Yu’s entire body was stretched taut. She strode over and got in Ning Guang’s face, her hands fisting in her hems and pulling up. “You’ve truly gone crazy! You cannot!”
