My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 80
Qing Yu fisted her hands in Ning Guang’s collar, her teeth clenched. Because she was so agitated, even her face twisted into a mask of malice.
Di Jiufeng started, reaching out to try and pull them apart, but Ning Guang caught her hand and pushed her back towards the couch. Ning Guang was very calm, like the one being caught by the collar wasn’t her. “A-Feng, don’t interfere, I am in the wrong. She can even beat me up if she wants, but I…”
“But what! Since you know it’s not right, why are you still insisting?!” Qing Yu agitatedly interrupted her and took a step forward, slamming her into the frame of the bed.
With a bang, the gauze canopy over the bed began to sway.
Qing Yu grit her teeth and yelled quietly, “Ning Guang! Don’t you know what will happen if you do this?! You will… you’ll force her into eternal torment!”
“No, I just don’t want to let her go!” Having been slammed into a carved bed frame, her back sparked in anger, but Ning Guang only furrowed her brow. She did not struggle, like she was using the pain to numb her nerves. “I just don’t want to let her go, how could I force her into eternal torment!”
“Ah, do you even believe that yourself?!”
Like she thought it very funny how she was trying to deceive herself, Qing Yu scoffed, then slowly let go.
She looked at the disquieted Ning Guang, then at the confused Di Jiufeng, and her furious expression suddenly fell off her face. She rubbed her forehead and fell to a seat on the bed, letting out a listless sigh. “Ning Guang, you want to deceive her, but I cannot. Unless you take my life, I will let her know the truth today.”
Actually, now that they had said so much, it didn’t make a difference whether Ning Guang stopped her or not.
But she didn’t know how to say it. She muttered with a powerless bravado, “I am not deceiving her, how could I deceive her, I haven’t…” She was afraid to even look at Di Jiufeng, her head twisted away, hunching her back.
Di Jiufeng knew what they were talking about had something to do with her, but she didn’t know how. Seeing Ning Guang so listless, she suddenly didn’t want to know. She tugged on Ning Guang’s hand, stroking her palm lightly with her fingertips. “Forget it, I’m going to die anyway, what does it matter if I don’t know some things? You two, calm down.”
Qing Yu scoffed and looked out the corner of her eye at Ning Guang. “How does it not matter? Jiufeng, do you know what your good little disciple is trying to do?!
She wants to force you into eternal torment!”
Qing Yu said it outright, ignoring whether or not Ning Guang would try to stop her. “Did you know? You’re half-demon, so after you die, your soul will scatter. You’ll have no chance to reincarnate, and you cannot cultivate the ghostly path because your soul is currently scattering, it’s no longer whole.
The best ending for you is to live this month well, and then rest in peace.
But your disciple doesn’t want to let you go. She wants to extract your soul and refine as a part of the ghostly form! Not to speak of the pain of extracting and refining a soul, when you are absorbed into the ghostly form, your soul will be corroded by ghostly energy. You will slowly forget everything, and in the end, you will relive your most frightening memories over and over to produce resentful energy and strengthen the ghostly form.”
Qing Yu was not exaggerating, each and every word was the pure truth.
And Ning Guang had no intent of interrupting her. Ning Guang didn’t know what she wanted. She wanted to let Di Jiufeng know, yet she was afraid she would reject her if she did. Actually, there was nothing to fear. Who would agree to this sort of unreasonable request?
Ning Guang let out a long sigh. For some reason, she felt more relaxed now.
Perhaps the reason she was willing to say this to Qing Yu’s face was that deep down, she never planned to hide it from Di Jiufeng.
“A-Feng, she is not wrong, but how could I let you fall to that state? I’ve thought about it, while you are still conscious, I could extract your soul and refine it as the master soul of the ghostly form. That way, though you would rely on me to live, as long as the ghostly form does not scatter, your consciousness will persist. But, I don’t have a good handle on it, and extracting and refining a soul is truly a painful process.”
Though Ning Guang was holding Di Jiufeng’s hand, her eyes were cast downwards, afraid to turn and look at her face.
Di Jiufeng put her hand on her lap. After a while, she said calmly, “Actually, so what if you don’t succeed? When my consciousness scatters, whatever I experience won’t matter anymore. I won’t know, so what if I suffer eternal torment? I never had the chance to reincarnate anyways, what’s the difference between scattering to the wind and eternal torment.”
“That’s what you think?! Di Jiufeng, how long are you going to indulge her?!” Qing Yu looked at her in disbelief, part shocked, part disappointed and angered.
But Ning Guang looked up, eyes subconsciously opened wide, so bright it was hard to look straight at them, like there were twin Milky Ways within.
“But what should I do? She is the disciple I took in. If I don’t indulge her, who will?”
Qing Yu laughed coldly, feeling like there was a breath stuck in her throat, unable to move up, or go down. “No wonder she’s so impudent, with a Shifu like you, I’d be surprised if she wasn’t!” Qing Yu felt a bit depressed, but for some reason, she began to feel a hint of envy.
She looked at this pair of master and disciple, a question suddenly jumping into her mind.
––––If she was the one who had gone so far, would there be someone willing to give it all up for her? In such a selfish cultivation world, could she meet her fated person? She wasn’t asking for a love like Di Jiufeng and Ning Guang’s, she would be satisfied as long as they could support each other in the face of imminent disaster.
“I’m sick of minding you two. Forget it, either way, you run into a dead end in a month, it’s no harm to go after this one lifeline.”
She swept her sleeves and walked away, but just when she pushed open the door, Qing Yu saw a pampered and frail little girl standing outside. She was very pretty, her face was just a bit too pale, and her body was excessively thin and weak.
The little girl bowed to her and spoke with a feeble voice, toned with the weakness of a long time spent ill. “Can, can I come in…” Before she had finished speaking, she began to pant violently.
Qing Yu looked at her. Not only did she feel no pity, she was even a bit cautious.
This Lin Yunyou was very strange. It was clearly the first time she had met Ning Guang, but every time they saw her, there was an excessive amount of adoration in her eyes. She tried to hide it, but this emotion was too fervent. Even using all the strength in her body to suppress it, it would still show through when she wasn’t paying attention.
For example, right now, Qing Yu was standing right in front of her, but she didn’t spare her a single glance. Her misty eyes kept flitting towards the room, full of burning expectation and impatience.
“Why do you want to go in? They need to rest.”
Qing Yu knew she shouldn’t be so cold to the Lin family head on the Lin family’s territory, but she couldn’t resist, and Lin Yunyou didn’t care. It was like as soon as she saw Ning Guang, she had lost all her aloof dignity.
“I, I heard, I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but, but you were very loud…”
She mumbled for a while, then, wringing her hands in her handkerchief, finally got out, “This is a very big risk for Miss Ning Guang. If she does not succeed, the ghostly form will turn on and devour its host.”
Qing Yu raised an eyebrow and sneered at her, looking at her out of the corner of her eye. “You seem to know very much. But as a demon cultivator, how do you understand the ghostly form so well?”
Lin Yunyou still wasn’t looking at her, her eyes darting all over, but she was unable to break through Qing Yu’s blockade and see inside the room.
“I don’t have any ill intent, I just want to help Miss Ning Guang.” She looked aggrievedly at Qing Yu, her eyes going red with urgency, but in the end, she didn’t dare barge inside. “Just let me see them, the other maiden is already awake. After all, she fainted because of me, I ought to check on them.”
Qing Yu scoffed, “The other maiden? You can’t even remember her name, and you still want to see her.”
Qing Yu’s attitude was very nasty, but Lin Yunyou didn’t notice at all.
She stood outside, like her eyes were looking straight through Qing Yu at that unreachable silhouette.
Her heartbeat instantly quickened, clouds of red gathering on her pale cheeks. She began to smile, some strength beginning to fill her long-ill body.
The door was not closed, and Di Jiufeng could hear bits and parts of Qing Yu’s conversation. She stuck her head out, but she could only see Qing Yu’s back.
“Who are you talking to?” Di Jiufeng said gently.
“It’s me, Lin Yunyou.” Perhaps because she knew Qing Yu would make trouble, Lin Yunyou hurriedly took over the conversation. “We ran into each other earlier. My constitution is special and I injured you and made you collapse, I am deeply remorseful, I came to give you my apologies.”
As she spoke, she walked inside. This time, it would be improper for Qing Yu to stop her, so she could only turn aside and let her enter.
As soon as she stepped inside the room, Lin Yunyou’s desolate heart felt much calmer. She didn’t look at Di Jiufeng, only stared at Ning Guang. Lin Yunyou’s gaze was red-hot, like two blazing flames, eager to burn her to ash. But at least she was still somewhat reasonable, and forced herself to look away and walk to the side of Di Jiufeng’s bed.
“Miss, you’re finally awake. If you stayed asleep any longer, Miss Ning Guang would have followed you away.” Her voice held a tone of complaint, but hidden under her weak panting breaths, it didn’t seem so evident.
Di Jiufeng didn’t hear it at first, but as she spoke, she thought it a bit strange.
When you’re asking after a patient, shouldn’t the first thing you ask be “How are you doing?” Even as young as Lin Yunyou was, she was the family head of a large clan, how could she make such a low-level mistake?
Di Jiufeng looked at her in suspicion.
Under her gaze, Lin Yunyou finally reacted. She slapped her own head and said, a bit embarrassed, “I don’t know how to talk, please do not take offense. I was just thinking about how Miss Ning Guang has been tirelessly looking after you these past few days, and I was a bit moved. Miss, are you doing better? Has my clan cared for you well?”
“The Lin family has been very courteous. It was all thanks to your assistance that I was able to wake.”
Lin Yunyou waved her hand. “No need to be polite, it was my constitution that caused this. I should be the one to apologize to you.” As she spoke, she looked up at Di Jiufeng. For some reason, her gaze stuck on Di Jiufeng’s body for a long time.
“Miss, you are very beautiful, I like your appearance.” Di Jiufeng already felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at by her, and suddenly hearing this, a strange feeling suddenly rose inside her.
This Lin Yunyou was strange all over, and her words were even more incomprehensible.
Di Jiufeng smiled politely and said perfunctorily, “Many thanks for the Lin family head’s praise, but how could my common looks compare to you? Please don’t joke at my expense.”
“How could you be common? I, I really like your appearance so much.” Di Jiufeng found it hard to ward off this unordinary fervor.
But hearing this, Ning Guang’s nerves were stretched tight. She sat forward a bit, blocking Di Jiufeng behind her.
“Family head Lin, A-Feng has just awoken, she is still weak. If there is nothing else, please take your leave for now, we will call on you again when A-Feng is recovered.”
“A, I, I…” Lin Yunyou’s face went red all the way through, and her hands fisted in her own clothes in unease, shyness showing in her fervent watery eyes. She looked up and carefully shot a glance at Ning Guang, then quickly ducked her head back down, so joyful she could barely find her own voice. “I, I’ll go back right away…”
She walked a few steps away. After getting a face full of cold wind, Lin Yunyou finally caught hold of something in the mess of thoughts in her brain.
She suddenly stopped and turned back around. “No, I can’t go back, I have something important to discuss with you. It is too dangerous to let you become the master soul of the ghostly form. Why don’t you go to the shrine of Chi You? You are the descendant of Chi You, as long as you can be reborn in the shrine, any chronic affliction can be cured.”
