My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 81
Lin Yunyou suddenly said this, but Di Jiufeng did not feel that it was a kind-hearted suggestion. Instead, she was seized by a strange feeling. She met eyes with Ning Guang, both of them carefully sizing up Lin Yunyou.
––––She looked young, around eighteen or nineteen. Her features weren’t very impressive on their own, but put together, they made her face a unique kind of delicate. Her complexion was very white, with a pallid and sickly look.
This was a sickly beauty, her expression innocent, like she had no malicious intent. But for some reason, Di Jiufeng just couldn’t like her.
Hearing her give them advice, Di Jiufeng still didn’t reply. But Ning Guang’s brow furrowed, and she coldly met eyes with her. “Family head Lin cares for our affairs very much. I don’t know how you came to know about this matter?”
Lin Yunyou trembled, and she ducked her head even lower. “I, I didn’t eavesdrop on purpose, I only wanted to come see you.”
Ning Guang ignored her, and the whole room sank into an unbearable silence.
Time passed second by second. At first, Lin Yunyou was still trying to explain, but in the end, she curled up like a quail, her eyes red, like she would begin to cry the next moment. She forgot all propriety and twisted her hands tight in her clothes, creasing folds into the slippery silk.
“I really wasn’t doing it on purpose, I just wanted to make sure she can live, and I don’t want you to endanger yourself. I can swear an oath, please believe me!” Seeing Ning Guang ignore her, Lin Yunyou raised her hand in a panic. She swore an oath to the demon god Chi You, her words sincere, without any omissions.
Di Jiufeng felt a bit bad about forcing a little girl to swear an oath like this, but she didn’t stop her.
In the end, she didn’t trust Lin Yunyou. And, she felt the threat of a love rival!
Alarm bells were ringing in her heart, making Di Jiufeng feel much colder than usual. She carefully considered Lin Yunyou’s oath, and after determining that there truly weren’t any word games hidden within, she feigned a casual tone and asked, “Miss, perhaps I am thinking too much, but I am curious, do you know Ning Guang? My disciple fell ill once before, she has forgotten many things. If you are an old acquaintance, you may as well tell her about it.
You have helped us very much, we can’t let you suffer the accusation of harboring ill intentions.”
Di Jiufeng was just making things up. Ning Guang listened to her, but didn’t explain further about this nonexistent ‘illness’. Instead, she even nodded cooperatively.
Ning Guang was not stupid, of course she knew that Lin Yunyou may have some designs on her. So, when she nodded, she, intentionally or not, gave Lin Yunyou an encouraging glance.
Under her gaze, Lin Yunyou felt as if all the blood in her body began to boil. Her cheeks burned crimson, and her eyes grew even brighter.
She said animatedly, “Miss Ning Guang and I, we, we…”
Right after she spoke, her voice ground to a halt. She seemed to have some secret difficult to tell, her canines digging lightly into her lower lip. “It’s been too long, even I cannot remember. I do not know how to say it, but, if not for Miss Ning Guang, I would not have survived until today. I don’t want to hurt you, I really want you to live.”
She looked at Di Jiufeng out the corner of her eye.
How to describe that gaze? Fervor in the midst of sincerity, expectation hidden within fervor. Swept over by this burning gaze, Di Jiufeng felt goosebumps rise up all over her body. Had she misinterpreted something? The one this girl had eyes for wasn’t Ning Guang, but her?
“There’s no need for that, if you wanted to harm me, why would you go to so much effort to help us? It was I who was discourteous and treated you disrespectfully, please do not take offense.”
“No no no, this is not your fault.” Lin Yunyou waved her hand hard, without a trace of the arrogance of the head of a major clan.
She was taking her position a bit too lightly. Even if she was an old acquaintance of Ning Guang’s, she shouldn’t take this sort of attitude.
Di Jiufeng furrowed her brow, suppressing the strange feeling in her heart. She said, “The Lin family head is generous, then we will disturb you for a bit longer. Could you tell us more about the shrine to Chi You?”
Lin Yunyou did not refuse. A wisp of joy flashed through her eyes, but it was so quick that Di Jiufeng did not notice, despite watching her the whole time. “You are half-human, half-demon, and the demonic bloodline to which you belong happens to be the special bloodline of Chi You’s descendants. With circumstances like yours, you can try your luck at the shrine. If you can align your energies with the demonic god Chi You, you can use the shrine’s Yansheng Pond to be reborn as a full demon.”
“Oh? Then that means that this pond is not a certain method?” Di Jiufeng asked.
Lin Yunyou nodded and said, “Yes, but you do not need to worry. My Lin family has a spiritual treasure called the Deity Invitation Tablet. If one of your bloodline activates it, you have at least a nine-tenths chance of being able to align your energies with the demonic god Chi You.”
Lin Yunyou was too enthusiastic, a scary amount of enthusiasm.
Di Jiufeng was silent for a while, then asked testingly, “Many thanks for the Lin family head’s assistance. It is my Ning Guang’s great fortune to have a friend like you.” She stared unblinkingly at Lin Yunyou, trying to find a clue in that sickly face.
But Di Jiufeng was disappointed in the end. Lin Yunyou pursed her lips and smiled, a bashful look appearing on her face. “As long as it can help Miss Ning Guang, I can do anything. You should rest. When you want to leave for the shrine, just get a maid to notify me.”
Lin Yunyou walked away, even being considerate enough to close the door for them.
Di Jiufeng watched her walk away, then looked back and said, “Did you notice anything?”
Qing Yu shook her head. “I couldn’t, it looks like she just wants to repay Ning Guang.”
Ning Guang glanced at her, but disagreed. “I’m sure I have never seen this person before. Ever since I was young, other than this one time, I have never met any demon cultivator. And, even if it is to repay a favor, she is too eager. I think she must want something.”
“What could she want?” Qing Yu asked.
Ning Guang shook her head and said, “I don’t know, but if I were to guess, if she wants to do something, she will do it at the Chi You shrine. Otherwise, she has no need to go to so much effort to convince us to go.”
“Then should we go to the Chi You shrine?” Di Jiufeng said.
“No rush, let Lin Hao help us ask around. He’s a demon cultivator and he knows the city lord’s eldest young mistress, he must be able to get more information than we can.”
Di Jiufeng and the others didn’t act rashly. After Lin Hao had found his information, they decided to visit the Chi You shrine.
Lin Yunyou had not tricked them, the Chi You shrine could truly let Di Jiufeng be reborn as a full demon. But did she do this purely out of the good of her heart? Qing Yu did not believe it and Di Jiufeng didn’t, Ning Guang did not either. They were on their guard, but in order to let Di Jiufeng survive, they had to accept Lin Yunyou’s suggestion. After all, this method was much more reliable than extracting and refining her soul into the ghostly form.
“A-Feng, how far along is your second body?”
Right before they departed, Ning Guang suddenly caught Di Jiufeng’s arm.
Di Jiufeng paused, retrieved the second body, and placed it in her hand. “The soul and body have developed, but the cultivation is still far off, it is only in Beginning-Stage Qi Refinement.”
“There’s no rush on the cultivation, as long as it has a soul and body. Have you placed your spiritual sense inside?” Ning Guang asked.
Di Jiufeng nodded and said, “I have, I did two switches without any problems.”
Ning Guang: “Okay, then leave your second body with me. I am still concerned about Lin Yunyou.”
They talked for a while, until they heard the sound of footsteps outside the door, and they stopped and walked outside. Qing Yu walked over, Lin Yunyou drooping sickly behind her.
Seeing Ning Guang, Lin Yunyou’s pale cheeks burned with a cloud of morbid red. “Miss Ning Guang, have you waited long? I came late.”
Ning Guang didn’t want to pay attention to her, but they still had to borrow her Lin family’s Deity Invitation Tablet, so she forced herself to be patient and said, “You came at just the right time, we had just packed our things. Let’s depart right now, what do you think?”
Lin Yunyou’s face went even more red, her voice unconsciously becoming more fervent. “It’s all up to Miss Ning Guang, I have no objections.”
The four of them walked to the gate to see two rather luxurious horse carriages already parked outside. Lin Yunyou watched Ning Guang get into one of the carriages, unconsciously following her for a few steps. She wanted to sit with Ning Guang, but seeing something, she hesitantly stopped. “This carriage is not large, it’s more spacious if only three ride together. I will go to the other carriage, just let me know if there is anything you need.”
Ning Guang hummed, then casually dropped the curtain.
Lin Yunyou climbed onto the carriage, looking back three times every step. Just after she ordered them to depart and dropped the curtain, another person appeared out of midair behind her. Though Lin Yunyou was prepared, she still jumped in shock, and all the blood left her blushing cheeks, leaving her face even paler than before. “A-Lu, why do you always appear so suddenly? You scared me to death.”
She collapsed on the seat, overly startled, and weakly propped up her head, panting in large gulps of air.
Gu Yunlu looked at her face, tugging her into her embrace. “How will you thank me after everything is complete?”
Lin Yunyou startled and tried to struggle free of her hold. “A-Lu, stop it!” She pushed her away in resistance, shrinking her whole body into a corner. Seeing that Gu Yunlu didn’t chase after her, she breathed easier, furrowed her brow, and asked, “If this truly succeeds, then, then, then…”
“What, you can’t bear to do it anymore?” Gu Yunlu interrupted her. “Hesitating now, don’t you think you’re a hypocrite? You’ve done so much, you even stole her father’s corpse, wasn’t it all for this day?”
Lin Yunyou gave her a timid glare and explained in her small voice, “I just tossed out her dad’s corpse, but you sent Shijiu there! And you were the one who killed Lin Hao’s grandpa!”
Gu Yunlu laughed, not caring. “It was me, what about it? I did it all for you, and you never stopped me!”
“But…”
“Don’t ‘but’ me.” Squinting, Gu Yunlu interrupted her and reached out to stroke her cheek, an incomprehensible smile on the corner of her lip. “Youyou, I know you are kind and don’t want to harm anyone, but it’s been so long, you should know well what sort of a person Ning Guang is. If it didn’t concern Di Jiufeng’s life, do you think she would step into the trap?
Don’t worry, all of this was my idea. Even if she actually finds something out in the future, it won’t count against you. And, how could I let her find out? You don’t need to worry. After today, everything you want will be in your hands. I will protect you all my life.”
