My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 82
It was not far to the Chi You shrine, and they arrived after about an incense stick’s time. When they stepped out of the carriages, Ning Guang seemed to have sensed something, and looked at the carriage behind them.
Her brows were creased in a confused expression.
Seeing her expression, Di Jiufeng asked, “What is it? Is there something wrong with Lin Yunyou?”
Ning Guang shook her head. “I don’t know, I just sensed two identical soul waves, but they disappeared very quickly, I might be mistaken. After all, how could there be two identical souls?”
After being splattered with PDA, Qing Yu had finally calmed herself and stepped out of the carriage, only to hear this conversation. The corner of her mouth twitched with a hint of challenge. “Who said there aren’t? The yao race’s twin lotuses are identical souls. They have different spiritual senses, but their souls are the same. Come to speak of it, they can’t count as two separate people, but simply a split soul.”
“Yes yes yes, you’re correct, but that’s the yao race, this is the demon race!”
Ning Guang had no desire to blather with her, but Di Jiufeng was not willing to let it go. She raised her chin, trying to meet her eyes at the same level. “The demon race cultivates the body and not the soul. Other than Chi You’s line, demons rarely investigate the soul. This was what Lin Hao said, you must also have heard.”
Qing Yu nodded, and did not refute her. “Yes, so it can only mean that your Ning Guang is stupid. She thought she sensed two identical demon souls? Actually, she wasn’t stupid before, it was all because she became your disciple!”
“Is it not good to be my disciple?” Di Jiufeng was about to explode. She pointed at her own face and said, “How am I stupid, why don’t you tell me?!”
Before Qing Yu could speak, Ning Guang pulled Di Jiufeng behind her. “Why fight with a single person like her? She’s smart, but no matter how smart she is, she can only live by herself, be good.” She stroked Di Jiufeng’s hair, then turned to look at Qing Yu. “I just said there were two identical souls, I never said they were demonic souls.”
“If not a demonic soul, what could it have been? This is the demon realm.” Qing Yu was used to taking advantage of weakness and fearing strength, and once Ning Guang started to ridicule her, she could only silently hold it in.
Ning Guang: “It was a witch soul.”
“That’s not possible!” Qing Yu stared. “The witch race went extinct long ago, how could there still be survivors?!”
“So I don’t know either, but my ghostly cultivation would not trick me.” Ning Guang did not argue further. Seeing Lin Yunyou lift the curtain, she turned and took hold of Di Jiufeng’s hand. Perhaps unintentionally, or otherwise, Lin Yunyou lifted her cultain high, showing everything inside the carriage. Other than her, there was no second person inside.
Ning Guang would not suspect her own ghostly cultivation, but she wouldn’t believe that a person could disappear into thin air. She looked unblinkingly at Lin Yunyou, and was soon discovered by her.
“Miss, Miss Ning Guang, I, did I do something…” Twin clouds of red appeared on her cheeks, and she ducked her head, afraid to look at Ning Guang.
From that angle, she could see Ning Guang and Di Jiufeng’s linked hands, so inseparable, like even the whole world couldn’t pull them apart.
“You two, you are so close.” Not a hint of envy could be heard in her shy and pampered voice, like she just simply admired their relationship.
Di Jiufeng smiled, and let out a light “en”.
Lin Yunyou continued, “Then you must stay this close forever…”
Suddenly being given well-wishes in such a fervent and expectant voice, Di Jiufeng not only was not happy, her spine even grew cold. She met eyes with Lin Yunyou, seeing the unsupressable excitement in her eyes. Even her cheeks were glowing with an abnormal blush.
“Let’s go in. The sooner you are reborn, the sooner we can go back home.”
A few parts fluttering with happiness, a few parts expectant, even her steps grew much lighter. Lin Yunyou led the way ahead of them, skipping over with her weak and sickly body. “Are you coming?” She paused at the entrance of the shrine and looked back, unable to hide the excitement on her pale face.
Di Jiufeng grew even more uneasy, not understanding why an outsider would be so excited for her to be reborn as a demon. She walked a few steps forward, but when she stepped onto the stairs, she suddenly thought of something and paused, grabbing Ning Guang.
Though Lin Yunyou had already entered, Di Jiufeng cautiously leaned over to Ning Guang’s ear.
She said, “Lin Yunyou cares so much about my rebirth, I’m afraid she is planning something, but I cannot guess what. When it’s time, you must keep an eye on her, don’t let her get close to me.”
Ning Guang nodded and squeezed her hand. “I will, but remember, as soon as there’s something you can’t handle, move your spiritual sense into the second body right away. We can worry about everything else later, just make sure you survive, that’s the most important thing.”
The Chi You shrine was very large, but at first glance, it seemed very empty. Other than a statue of Chi You towering from ceiling to floor, there was only a limpid pond stretching before them.
Lin Yunyou kneeled by the side of the pond, laying a Deity Invitation Tablet at the edge of the water.
“Miss, come here.” She stood and pointed at the spot where she was kneeling. “I already set it up, you only need to use your demonic energy and activate the Deity Invitation Tablet. There is at least a nine-tenths chance you will be able to summon Chi You.”
Di Jiufeng nodded and kneeled next to the pond according to her instructions.
Because the equilibrium in her body had already been disrupted, when she began to use her demonic energy, she felt a tearing pain from all her meridians. She couldn’t bear it, her back trembled, faint groans of pain slipping out from between her teeth, but she forced herself to keep going.
Seeing her like this, Ning Guang couldn’t resist taking a step forward. “A-Feng…”
“Miss Ning Guang.” She only said her name before Lin Yunyou interrupted her. She forced herself between Ning Guang and Di Jiufeng and reached out, like she was about to tug on her clothes.
Ning Guang ducked away.
Lin Yunyou discontentedly pulled away her hand and bit down on her bottom lip. “I swore an oath that I would not harm her. As long as she can invite Chi You to descend and use the Yansheng Pond to be reborn as a demon, she will survive. As long as she survives, what does this little pain matter?”
Ning Guang sneered, and did not reply.
Activating the Deity Invitation Tablet required a lot of demonic energy. Di Jiufeng was soaked through with cold sweat before she managed to make the Deity Invitation Tablet let out a weak glow. At nearly the same time, her demonic energy cut off and she collapsed to the ground, her trembling visible to the naked eye.
“A-Feng, A-Feng!” She couldn’t take it any longer. She pushed Lin Yunyou aside and ran towards Di Jiufeng.
Right then, she could give up on this chance for her to be reborn as a demon just to let Di Jiufeng suffer a bit less.
Seeing Ning Guang rush over, Lin Yunyou, who had been thrown to the side, felt her heart fill with envy. She tightened her fists and looked at Di Jiufeng, half in expectation, half in envy. If only she was the one in Ning Guang’s heart. But it didn’t matter, one day, she would become the one in Ning Guang’s heart.
Lin Yunyou giggled and watched Ning Guang throw herself at Di Jiufeng.
But shockingly, Ning Guang caught only empty air!
Di Jiufeng was just lying there, but for some reason, the moment Ning Guang was about to touch her, she disappeared into thin air. Ning Guang looked a bit lost, staring at her own hands, terrified, and her body gradually began to tremble. In the end, even her wide sleeves could not hide the shaking in her hands.
“A…Feng…” Her hoarse voice caught in her throat, finally crawling out with a piercing terror.
Lin Yunyou’s heart trembled, admiration and resentment spreading interlocked, making her pallid face begin to twist. What was so good about this Di Jiufeng? Though she had a nice face, she had no status, and her cultivation wasn’t very high. She wasn’t nearly as good as her, why would Ning Guang like her?
Because they had met earlier? In addition to that past that no one was able to erase?
Lin Yunyou couldn’t figure it out. Her canines subconsciously dug into her lower lip until the taste of blood brought her back to her senses, and she threw herself at Ning Guang’s feet. “Miss Ning Guang, do not panic. She did not disappear, she has been taken away by Lord Chi You. Look, look at the pond.”
She pointed at the center of Yansheng Pond. At some point, a black flower bud had grown from the empty surface of the water. It was still only the size of a thumb, but it surged with energy, like something alive.
“When that flower blossoms, she will return, and she will have completely transformed into a demon. Afterwards, her life will no longer be in danger.”
“Really? Ning Guang grabbed her wrist, nearly in a panic. “She’ll really return?”
“Yes, she’ll return before long.” She reached out, wanting to touch Ning Guang’s fingers, but before she could reach skin, Ning Guang shrank away. All the strength flowed out of Lin Yunyou’s body, and she chewed on her lip before she asked, a bit unwilling and expectant, “Miss Ning Guang, I am just saying if, but if when she comes back, she has changed a lot, would you still… like her?”
Ning Guang’s deep eyes looked at her for a while, some unclear emotion flowing through her eyes. “Of course I would like her. As long as it’s her, no matter how much she has changed, I would still like her.”
The inside of the shrine quieted. After she finished, Ning Guang did not say another word.
She stayed on guard beside the flower bud, acting as a defender and blocking everyone who tried to approach.
The flower bud actually grew very quickly. Before two days had passed, it was already half as tall as a human. Ning Guang guarded it with rapt attention, so the moment the petals began to open, she saw. Her back stretched taut and she shot to her feet, walking so close she couldn’t get any closer.
Ning Guang looked at the petal with a burning gaze. Because she was so concentrated, she didn’t notice when a dark look flashed through Lin Yunyou’s eyes behind her.
Lin Yunyou nonchalantly walked forwards a few steps, until she was standing just behind Ning Guang.
“Watch out!”
Suddenly, Qing Yu shouted from not far away. Ning Guang’s head shot around for her to see a woman in purple robes attack, her hand chopping down. A rush of power enough to split stars and chop the moon, waves of demonic energy cast the whole shrine into dark night.
The purple-robed woman yelled, “Halt, all surviving sinners of the witch race must die!”
It was a powerful blow, but Ning Guang was not afraid. However, Lin Yunyou was standing just behind her. If she attacked, Lin Yunyou would definitely be affected. Stuck between the two of them, she would be injured in the best case, and lose her life at worst.
Ning Guang did not care about the lives of others, but Di Jiufeng was still inside. She didn’t know if they would still need Lin Yunyou.
She moved to attack, then stopped. Though it all happened in a moment, the purple-clothed woman was already at her side. She struck a merciless blow towards the small of Ning Guang’s back.
Ning Guang gathered her spiritual energy, trying to take the blow full-on, but just then, Lin Yunyou suddenly darted forwards.
Lin Yunyou and the purple-clothed woman met eyes, before she pushed Ning Guang away and took the blow in her place. Her body fell like a kite snapped from its strings and crashed into the flower bud, a mouthful of blood dying the bud red.
