My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 84
Lin Yunyou never wanted to hide anything from Ning Guang. One, because the situation was beyond saving, two, because members of the witch race were unable to resist their own god, and three, because of that lingering tether of love in her heart that no one could cut.
She told them a very long story. Ning Guang ignored all the touching details, only finding one point of importance in the whole sequence of nonsense.
When she was the ancient witch, she had taken in an orphan girl. She had raised this orphan into her own person, and had even died because of her.
As for the reason why, Lin Yunyou told them as well. It was because the orphan held the secret to ascending to immortality.
Ning Guang scoffed, a hint of derision showing on her apathetic face. “Why are you making up this whole tale? Do you want to make us waste our time exposing you?”
Lin Yunyou trembled, and she suddenly raised her voice, some false bravado in the piercing vitriol. “I wasn’t lying to you, clan leader, clan leader! I was truly focused on finding you, I wanted to help you retake everything and let our witch race stand once again at the top of this world, how could you not believe me!”
“Why should I believe your lies?”
Ning Guang didn’t even spare her a glance. “To hold the secret to ascension, with your level of ability? Ha…” She didn’t continue, but that scoff already held all her derision. Ning Guang didn’t want to waste any more time on her. She released the oppressive aura of the ancient witch, pressing down upon her body.
“If you don’t want to tell, I’ll look myself. The witch race has been extinct for so long, what does one more survivor matter? You can die with the rest.” After she spoke, all of the ancient witch’s oppressive aura pressed into Lin Yunyou’s spiritual sense.
She was a bit panicked at first, but then she began to smile.
Seeing her like that, Di Jiufeng’s heart clenched. She grabbed Ning Guang’s arm, wanting to stop her, but unable to do so in time.
Under the pressure of the ancient witch’s aura, Lin Yunyou’s memories leaked out without reserve, scene after scene flashing before their eyes. The scenes looked very real, but they had clear logical gaps, like they had been assembled by force, full of a far-fetched attempt to believe their own lies.
Lin Yunyou’s memories were just as she had described, but she knew nothing of the method to ascend to immortality.
And, these memories were not entirely coherent. As everything happened, there was always a person hiding off to the side, their face out of sight, lowly and insignificant, down in the dirt.
Lin Yunyou’s memories were not complicated. Other than the years she had spent with the ancient witch, they consisted only of her plotting scene after scene to draw the ancient witch to the demon realm.
First, it was cajoling Ming Cang into planting the demonic seed in Di Jiufeng’s body.
Next, it was opening the spatial tunnel to allow Di Jiufeng to arrive at the lost treasure lands in time.
Then, it was opening the tunnel to the demon realm, sending them to Tianyun City so they could successfully recover the ancient witch’s death core.
And various things such as stealing and using Di Jiufeng’s father’s corpse, murdering Lin Hao’s grandfather…
Lin Yunyou had done a lot, but for the most part, she was not the one who got her hands dirty. In her memories, there was another woman called Gu Yunlu, the demon cultivator who had fought with Qing Yu that day. If one was to say that Lin Yunyou was a weak and delicate blackberry lily living under the sun, Gu Yunlu was the brambles growing alongside her like a shadow, protecting her from the wind and rain.
The scenes ground to a stop, halting with the scene where Ning Guang had invaded her spiritual sense.
Di Jiufeng finished watching in silence, then met eyes with Ning Guang. “Very strange, did you notice it?” Her brows were creased, a mound forming in the center of her forehead.
Ning Guang couldn’t bear to see her so distressed. She pressed a warm finger against her forehead, slowly smoothing away the furrow. “I did. Her memories aren’t very realistic, it’s a bit like…”
“Like she is wearing someone else’s memories on her own body, so they are baseless and seem very incoherent.”
Di Jiufeng continued, her brow smoothing under Ning Guang’s finger. She slowly raised a hand and interlinked her fingers with Ning Guang’s, eyes looking deep into hers. Certain and earnest, she said, “There is no evidence, but I think the memories she stole are mine. And the person hiding in the shadows must be her original self.”
Ning Guang did not refute her. She nodded and said, “I think so too. As for the evidence, perhaps that Gu Yunlu would know, but I don’t want to ask her. A-Feng, you have already recovered, why don’t we find somewhere to go into seclusion? Just like you said before, we’ll take a mountain for ourselves and plant fruit trees all over, grow old together hand in hand.”
Ning Guang’s voice was warm, and it burrowed into Di Jiufeng’s ear like a slow-flowing mountain spring, calming her fretful thoughts.
Di Jiufeng pursed her lips, and suddenly smiled. What was there to worry about, what use was worrying? No matter what happened, they understood most of what they wanted to know. Di Jiufeng actually didn’t care much about everything else. She had recovered, and she could stay with Ning Guang for good. Her heart went soft, and she didn’t want to keep struggling so much.
She took Ning Guang’s hand, looked up, and laughed lightly. “You want to go into seclusion? I thought you would want to investigate.”
Ning Guang tugged her forwards and leaned down by her ear, warm breath sweeping across her earlobe. “Do you think the truth means anything? Whether we know or not, it’s fine as long as we can stay together. I don’t want to investigate, everything is good right now, you’re still here, and you can stay with me forever.”
Ning Guang had no desire to investigate the truth, and Di Jiufeng did not either. They shut the unconscious Lin Yunyou in the ghostly form’s storage space, then left Shen City together.
The scene before their eyes blurred, and the next thing they saw was a field of pitch black.
“What’s going on? Why is it so dark?” No matter how deep the night, there would still be some light in the sky, and cultivators’ night vision was very good, it would never be so dark they couldn’t see the fingers of their own hands.
Di Jiufeng thought something was strange, so she pulled Ning Guang and Qing Yu close and entered Shen City again.
As a spatial spiritual device, Shen City could travel through the axis of space. Though it couldn’t cross the barrier between the cultivation world and the demon realm, it could go anywhere within the demon realm.
Di Jiufeng did not plan to go far, she just wanted to find somewhere with light. She didn’t expect that when she poured demonic energy into Shen City, she couldn’t find the surrounding space.
What was going on?
Di Jiufeng was astonished. She turned to look at Ning Guang. “I can’t sense the surrounding space, but I clearly could before.”
Ning Guang looked at her wide-open eyes and her puffed-up cheeks. Not only was she not worried, she even reached up slowly to poke her face.
“What are you doing?” Di Jiufeng slapped away her hand, her entire face creasing up.
Ning Guang pinched her cheek and said leisurely, “Let’s go out and take a look. Just now, I think I sensed something.”
