My Disciple Wants to Tease Me Every Day - Chapter 88
Yunyou’s words made alarm bells blare in Di Jiufeng’s mind. She immediately activated all her demonic energy, trying to take Ning Guang away from this critical area. But before they could get far, Ning Guang turned to grab her.
“Don’t be afraid, she has no room to maneuver.”
As Ning Guang spoke, the entire ground began to violently shake. It was just like an earthquake, and soon after, the solid ground began to collapse in pieces.
“I didn’t want to do this, you forced me!”
Yunyou stomped hard on the ground, and the still-solid dirt sank in with a bang.
A giant hole appeared in the ground, and at the same time, the thick stench of blood overflowed.
Looking down under the light of the moon, a familiar blood pool appeared before Di Jiufeng’s eyes. Countless skinned corpses were floating on the blood pool, sinister and twisted bodies, like the most malicious curse in the world.
“This is…”
Di Jiufeng stared in terror. Those nightmarish memories from before she had come to this place flashed through her brain one after another.
Her temples jumped, a piercing pain slashing from her cranial nerves to her retinas. “Go! Quick…” That one word stuck in her throat, but she had not yet gotten it out before Ning Guang interrupted her.
She didn’t say anything at all, only pulled Di Jiufeng securely into her arms.
Soft gentle kisses slowly rained across her forehead. Feeling the unbalanced pulse in her temples, Ning Guang’s heart skipped a beat. “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I broke her array.” Her fingertips stroked across her eyelids. Feeling her breathing start to slow to normal, she pulled her hand away and pressed it against her back.
“I did raise her myself, I know all of her tricks. She can’t cause any serious trouble, you don’t need to worry.”
Di Jiufeng let out a light “en”, her thin and soft voice weak with an excess of fright.
The blood pool was still there, but the array she had set with it had disappeared without a trace. Yunyou finally began to panic and tried to run, but was surrounded by the guards who had rushed to the scene. After finding herself at a dead end, she suddenly lost it and threw herself back and forth, fighting like a trapped beast with her meagre cultivation.
“My Lady, my Lady, I did everything for you, how can you treat me this way!”
[T/N: Lin Yunyou addresses the ancient witch as 大人, which is a general respectful honorific for a person of significance.]
“My Lady, are you really going to take my life?”
“My Lady, look at me again, as long as you give me a single glance, I’ll surrender myself for capture!”
This Lin Yunyou was actually a little bit pitiful. She was like a hedgehog with all the spikes on her body raised, crashing back and forth in this inescapable cage.
Her head started bleeding, but she still looked discontentedly at her savior, trying to use her lowly and miserable state to evoke a wisp of pity.
But in the end, Ning Guang did not give her another glance. She stood with her back to Lin Yunyou, decisive and cold.
Yunyou couldn’t win when she was outnumbered, and she only held out for a cup of tea’s time before she was pressed to the ground by the guards. The captain of the guard who had watched her grow up took another look at her and sighed in pity. “Clan leader, Yunyou… what is her punishment?”
“No need to ask me, do it according to tribe rules.”
“Then strip her of her consciousness and set her loose in empty space?” She paused and looked up at Ning Guang, a wisp of hope flashing through her eyes. “This is a punishment even worse than death, it’s not much different from eternal suffering. Yunyou truly has made a mistake, but on her parents’ behalf, can you show her some mercy?”
“Show her some mercy?” Ning Guang finally turned to look at the captain of the guard. “You are too merciful and soft. You ought to know, the sacrifices in this blood pool are our tribe members! Has Yunyou ever showed any mercy? Since she did not, is she worth others’ pity?!
You may go, there is no need to discuss this further. The rules must not be broken, go ahead with the punishment.”
Ning Guang waved, sending everyone away, never giving Yunyou a single glance.
Such a heartless manner made Yunyou’s entire heart grow cold. She suddenly thought herself very lamentable, what was the meaning of everything she had held onto for so many years?
Yunyou suddenly began to struggle. She shook off the hands holding her down and threw herself forward, grabbing Ning Guang’s hem.
She raised her head with all her remaining strength, pitch-black eyes full of hysterical obsession. “If you look down on me so much, why did you take me in in the first place? Why didn’t you just let me die outside, so I wouldn’t have dirtied your eyes?!”
Ning Guang was silent for a while, and in the end, did not speak, only tugged her clothes away, completely apathetic, not even willing to spare her a glance.
This attitude was like a knife cleaving through all of Yunyou’s remaining hope.
Her eyes went dark, and the last thread in her brain snapped, her entire body trembling like she was about to fall apart. “Xuan Ming! I became like this, all because of you! If not for you, none of this would have happened! You’re the one at fault! Don’t try to acquit yourself of this!”
Yunyou sprawled on the ground, deranged, dirt smudged across her face. Along with that gaze like she wanted to cry but refused to do so, she looked as malicious as an evil ghost.
Di Jiufeng wasn’t going to say anything, but she really couldn’t bear to listen to others slander Ning Guang. She pondered it for a while, then finally spoke. “Then according to you, are your parents also at fault? If they didn’t give birth to you, Xuan Ming would never have brought you back. Yunyou, I pitied you, but now I just think you are just lamentable.
You were the greedy one. And you’re still trying to blame Xuan Ming?
She never reciprocated your affections. She even took the initiative to distance herself from you when the first signs began to show. She gave you life, but not only were you not thankful for her kindness, you even blame her.
According to you, we should watch people die and refuse to save them, just in case we end up entangled with ingrates like you!”
After Di Jiufeng finished, she did not wait for her reply, before tugging Ning Guang down the mountain.
The fog slowly scattered, and the bright full moon showed its true form, lustrous light scattering down from the heavens, spreading to Di Jiufeng’s feet like a magpie bridge across the Milky Way.
Her body felt a bit heavy, and she collapsed to the ground. But her soul felt a familiar sensation of being drawn away.
In a haze, Di Jiufeng understood something, and just when her soul was about to slip free of her body, she forcefully grabbed Ning Guang’s hand. “Will you forget me? If we do not see each other for a long time, will you still remember me?”
Ning Guang’s heart went empty, and she reflexively pulled her into her arms. “What do you mean? Why would we not see each other for a long time? A-Feng, don’t scare me, I…”
“Don’t be afraid.”
Di Jiufeng pressed a finger over her lips, gently interrupting her. “I’m not trying to scare you, I will just have to leave for a while. Wait for me to come back, okay?”
Ning Guang clenched her teeth, her slender brows twisted into a knot. “I won’t, you can’t go. If you go, I’ll forget you, I won’t know to look for you, and I won’t wait for you to come back.”
“Tsk, I almost believed it…” Di Jiufeng clicked her tongue, then used a finger to smooth the crease between her brows. Her gaze grew hazier, until she could only barely see the full moon. “The moon is so beautiful tonight, but the time I spent with you moves me more than this sight. I like you a lot, I truly like you…”
Di Jiufeng’s soul slipped away, trudging through the long river of time until it returned to the place where it had always resided.
When she opened her eyes, she thought she would see a sea of blood, but unexpectedly, she was blinded by a wall full of night pearls. She reflexively closed her eyes, and when the pain finally ceased and she was about to open them again, a pair of hands cupped her face.
“A-Feng, you’re finally awake!” The anxious voice was that of the ancient witch Xuan Ming.
Her eyes were full of joy, but also unspeakable lingering fear wreaking havoc in her heart, rendering her unable to make a single sound other than these few words.
She could only hold Di Jiufeng tight, squeezing so hard as if to squeeze her apart and melt her into her bones.
Ning Guang held her for a long time, until Di Jiufeng managed to clear the mess of thoughts in her mind. She did not struggle away, only drew out a hand to stroke the back of Ning Guang’s head. “Didn’t Gu Yunlu say she would make sure I would live? What do you have to fear?”
“Gu Yunlu?” Hearing this unfamiliar name, Ning Guang visibly started. “Who is Gu Yunlu? What do you mean by ‘make sure you would live’?”
She pushed away from Di Jiufeng, “I think I’ve heard the name of a love rival” clearly written on her scrunched-up face.
Di Jiufeng started, then realized––––
Though she had only returned to the past to change her own fate, when she thought about it, she realized that it would have indirectly affected Ning Guang, Yunyou, and the witch tribe. She had started a chain reaction, causing Gu Yunlu to disappear into the endless river of history.
Gu Yunlu must have known this would be the result, but she had still chosen to do it.
Di Jiufeng couldn’t help but remember her fed-up and exhausted expression.
Lin Yunyou was not the only one suffering from a wish unfulfilled. As the incarnation living on the dark side, Gu Yunlu could only have been suffering more than Lin Yunyou, not less. She was probably already fed-up with living days like those, that she would make such a choice without a moment of hesitation.
Di Jiufeng sighed, her long lashes slowly fluttering to a close.
“Gu Yunlu was probably the one person in this world with the most right to hate the Heavenly Way. Unfortunately, she will never get the chance, she has already drifted into nothingness along with her Yunyou.
Actually, we ought to thank her. Without her, I may never have seen you again. But that’s not important, it’s all in the past.”
Di Jiufeng pressed her lips together in a smile. A thousand sails had passed by, and her heart filled with a rare sense of peace.
In this dull and dry stone room, the cold light of the night pearls looked simple and elegant, like a face cleaned of all its makeup. Di Jiufeng looked deep into Ning Guang’s eyes through this layer of hazy light. “Long time no see. Starting now, I will stay with you forever.”
