My Ghostly Romance - Chapter 28
20 minutes later.
Kaisar stepped out of the elevator alone. His face was devoid of emotion and looked like a reaper who would hack people out of his way with his scythe.
He just stepped a few steps away from the elevator when he raised his head and saw two familiar ladies sitting on the bench. There were other people seated on the other benches on both their sides and behind, but they were by far the most noticeable people in the whole lobby.
Seated with their back straight, Yang Mi and Aunt Wu didn’t look like they were there to simply see him. They looked like the two of them were there to have a joyful picnic in the middle of the storm with all the snacks in their hands and cups of coffee in the other.
While Kaisar was trying his hardest to gather his thoughts and process this scene before him, Yang Mi already felt his gaze on her body. Like a radar set on top of her head, she turned her head to look at him in time to see him setting his jaws tight while staring back at her.
‘What are you two doing?’ That was what he was mouthing to her. He slowly stalked towards them and loomed over theri seated figures.
“Detective, you’re finally here.” Yang Mi was the first one to greet him as if he was late for their tea party.
Kaisar ignored her and looked at Aunt Wu. He politely said, “Aunt Wu, did something happen? Did she do something wrong?”
Already used to her excessive actions, Kaisar wasn’t wrong to jump conclusions. But Yang Mi was greatly offended by his words. Her mouth almost fell off the ground and her eyes bulged roundly.
This guy…
She felt offended. She hasn’t done anything yet! She was planning to later but that doesn’t mean he could just point fingers at her.
“Detective… Do you have a problem with me?” Surely not, right? She thought as she tried to remember anything that she did wrong while she was in her human form. No… she didn’t do anything at all.
Well… aside from that morning where he found her stash of treasures… er… toys.
Aunt Wu felt the tension between the two of them and wondered what happened between them. Since that morning, the two of them were in a cold war. It was after the young master went up to get the young miss but the old housekeeper didn’t have enough information to find out the reason behind their little squirmish.
Besides, if Aunt Wu were to find out about it. She’ll suffer from apoplexy for a month.
“No, no. Nothing happened and Ms. Yang didn’t do anything at all.” Aunt Wu vouched for her and added, “I’m here to give you your lunch box actually. Ms. Yang only wanted to come with me because she wanted to breathe some fresh air.”
Kaisar sighed in relief. He was the only one who knew about what truly happened to Yang Mi and if something were to happen while the old housekeeper was around, he didn’t know what to do about it.
“Is that it?” He pointed towards the bag that was seated on another spot on the bench.
When Aunt Wu nodded her head, he reached out to get the bag. He turned to the side and said, “Then… I’ll see you two outside.”
“You’re not inviting us to eat with you?” Yang Mi suddenly asked.
Kaisar frowned and replied, “No. I have a lot of things to do so I can’t spend a lot of time with you. I’m sorry.”
It was the truth. Several cases was thrown to their team and now, he had a lot of work left on top of his desk. At this moment, his focus was to find a clue as to why several animals are missing and found dead the next day.
He wasn’t an animal lover but the more he stalled time, the count of pets missing and ending up dead will increase.
Aunt Wu was slightly disappointed as she wanted the two young people to spend more time together. She was only ordered to be the matchmaker but since the young master already opened his mouth, she couldn’t force him to stay and eat with them.
As for Yang Mi… Kaisar expected her to pursue this matter and force him to stay with them. However, this time around, not only did she not persist. She actually smiled brightly.
He then heard her say, “Aw… that’s too bad.” With the pouting effect.
“I really want to eat with you but since you said you’re too busy. Then, I won’t bother you anymore.” She turned to look at the old housekeeper, “Isn’t that right?”
“Uh… yes.” Aunt Wu, who was bathed in the warm glow of her bright smile, nodded her head.
Kaisar felt a little suspicious when he saw her smiling like that. The wickedness that was shining in her eyes was giving him a bad feeling. And just when he was about to say something to her, his phone vibrated.
He fished it out of his pocket and saw that Chen Gao sent him a text message, telling him to go back as soon as possible to start another round of meetings.
Left with no choice, Kaisar turned to the old housekeeper and said, “I have to go now. Aunt Wu, I’ll leave her to you.”
The old housekeeper smilingly nodded her head and didn’t decline. The two ladies watched him disappearing from their sight as the doors of the elevator closed on him.
Once he was gone, both Yang Mi and Aunt Wu also stepped out of the gates of the bureau. They left with different expressions on their faces. One was disappointment and regret for not achieving her goal. And the other was excitedly walking away as if she couldn’t wait to get away from the bureau and be free.
Yang Mi was the latter. She couldn’t contain her excitement seeing that she could make use of her time to investigate the whole city while the detective was busy. After several minutes of walking back and almost reaching the building of the condominium complex, Yang Mi suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Aunt Wu noticed her actions and asked, “What is it?”
Yang Mi replied, “Aunt Wu… What should I do? I forgot that I have something to say to Kaisar. Can I go back there and tell him?” Aunt Wu opened her mouth but Yang Mi continued, “You don’t need to go with me. I memorize the road to the bureau and I just can’t wait till later to tell him.”
“Well, then…” Yang Mi stepped back and waved at her.. She didn’t wait for the old lady to stop her as she rushed away.
