My Husband’s Wife - Chapter 1
My mother’s voice was heavily subdued when she told me that someone had asked for my hand and it dropped even lower as she asked if I was willing to be married? It took me a moment to process her words. I had ended the only relationship I had ever been involved in, who could possibly be asking for my hand? I tried to recall if there had been anyone who had shown interest in me recently but drew a complete blank. Though I will admit that recently I hadn’t been in the right frame of mind to register anyone’s attention. I had been too busy recovering from the ruin of the aforementioned relationship and striving to prevent further damage resulting from my terrible judgment. This proposal came as a complete surprise.
Mother correctly interpreted my puzzlement and continued “The Xue family’s matriarch has proposed to you on behalf of her only son. “Oh,” I paused “the Xue family?” I don’t recall any family friends who bear the surname Xue. “Do we know this family?” I ask. “Well” my mother stammered “although we can’t be called friends, your father and I know them very well, they are a good family. Only, marrying into their house can be a little fraught with difficulty. They are one of the old families.” “Like ours?” I ask.
“Not like ours. We no longer consider ourselves a clan but the Xue are still very much a family clan.” Mother hesitated then she seemed to gather her resolve “Yue, although this is a great honor for us, your father and I will find a way to politely refuse. You don’t have to be too concerned.” I had no reply at first but mother’s words still made me feel relieved.
Later on, I realized that though I had hardened my resolve and decisively cut ties with my past, I kept searching for a direction, any direction. I succeeded in making a clean break but I didn’t know how to move forward in the after. Recent events had made me lose too much faith in the ordinary dream of finding love and then getting married plus the vagaries of fate had seen fit to involve me in a scandal, one that might possibly tarnish my family’s honor and if nothing was done might drag our name through the mud. Thankfully the affair had been quietly resolved and no one knew of it yet but I wasn’t sure how long I had before the secret was spilled.
The marriage proposal from the Xue clan could serve multiple purposes. It restored my innocence, completely severed the unpleasant past and gave me direction. And so, I gave both myself and my parents a shock. I said I was willing, I would accept the proposal.
Like that, I agreed to this marriage. Not knowing the groom’s nature, face or even name. When one thinks that way, I was exceedingly lucky. At least my husband was only promiscuous and did not touch drugs, a spendthrift but had no gambling proclivities. He was arrogant, with a spoilt personality, but with a clean bill of health, a needlessly silver tongue but with a face so handsome, it was beautiful- though I still could not decide if this last one was a curse or a blessing.
I was too caught up in the scary realization that I was really going to marry some unknown man in that most outdated of practices-an arranged marriage that I failed to catch on to something obvious; that said stranger expressly did not want to marry me! Even till the point, his feelings for me crossed over to loathing. So, his first words to me after we were in the bridal room, “Don’t gloat just yet, I will be divorcing you”, came as a shock.
I couldn’t guess what he was thinking but when he said those words, my bones flooded with relief and I sank halfway off the bed. I had remained pure because I wanted to fulfill a fantasy of giving myself over to just one single man. I thought that when the man I loved received such a gift he would be ecstatic. Men did not understand this old way of thinking I had grown up with. Of course, they would want immediate satisfaction. I knew better; how pleasurable the knowledge of having sole and complete possession would be.
I was a woman with great discipline; nothing, not even the man I had thought I loved had been allowed to impede my plans or my dreams. The end result was that I had come to this bridal boudoir as a virgin. Truly, I did not regret my choice but it did make an awkward thing even more awkward when this husband of mine was a complete stranger.
Unfortunately, I failed to realize how I looked half laid on the floor and the bed. Xue Yuwen gazed at me and likely thought, this woman indeed was shameless. The instant he mentioned divorce she attempted to seduce him. He had decided not to touch her but he had to admit that she was truly beautiful. He disliked this marriage because he didn’t like being schemed against or controlled, but this delectable morsel had brought herself to his mouth. Now that he thought about it, if he just divorced her untouched, won’t everyone start to gossip that he had lost his legendary prowess.
In truth, this was simply Xue Yuwen inverting black and white for his own sake. Su Yue had slowly slid off the bed unto the floor, unknowingly placing her charms on display right in the line of sight of our young master Xue. At that moment his whole body was vibrating with lust and no matter what, he definitely couldn’t leave the room that particular night. It really took him only but a moment to convince himself that eating her up completely was both his right and his original intention.
Su Yue was still immersed in her feelings of relief when Xue Yuwen’s face came into her vision, next thing she knew, she was being kissed. Her thoughts scattered like leaves in the wind. Didn’t he previously say he would divorce her? Then what was he doing? It couldn’t be that he, he…? “What are you doing?” she tried to ask. But half the words were swallowed into his mouth as his answer.
His tongue coaxed her lips and chased her tongue. She tried to struggle but she only succeeded in pressing her body closer to his, the bed was at her back edging her in, his arms wrapped her securely. She couldn’t escape. That night she was tormented left and right by her husband. Only when her voice was already hoarse and her whole-body limp with exhaustion, only then did that beast let her go.
Hello, I really haven’t got much to say. Please tell me what you think.
