My Journey As The Fox Head Clan - Chapter 52
Mame didn’t say much, she simply nodded her head to Master Kek and dragged Yilas away. Yilas was screaming and restraining but she still got pulled away in front of 20 people, who just stared shockingly with their eyes. None of them dare to touch or save Yilas.
Once they were out of their sight, Mame dropped Yilas on the ground and said.
“Stop the tantrum, child. I didn’t say your training stop here.”
Yilas stopped her screaming and opened her eyes wide, once again her eyes were lit with hope.
“Really? You promise?” Yilas jumped off the ground like an excited rabbit.
“Of course, now we need to find ourselves a private offsite so we can focus on limiting your damage first. Not teaching you to control yourself would be irresponsible.”
After walking around for an hour, Mame and Yilas found an empty field, looked like an abandoned old training field with all the fences and marks almost identical to the one before. Except for the rundown appearance, the place served its purpose for what it needed.
“Try doing what you did earlier again, this time aiming at that pole over there.” Mame pointed at the 3 giant wooden poles about 80 yards away, Yilas nodded and got prepared.
After 10 minutes of concentration, Yilas produced her second shot and aimed it the pole, this time easier than the last. But to the regular eyes, it still looked like nothing, the pole didn’t move either. Mame squinted her eyes to look for any signs, though the energy Yilas produced this time was much smaller, it should still leave a mark.
“Your aim is terrible, dear.” Though she had seen many types of fighters, she had never seen anything invisible like this. And with that, she wasn’t sure how to teach Yilas. She might need a helping hand from a special instructor. A lightbulb suddenly got switched in Mame’s head, she might know just the right person to know what to do.
“Wait here, don’t run off anywhere, I will be right back.” Mame patted Yilas head before leaving, she quickly moved out of Yilas’s sight in just a blink of an eye.
Before Yilas could say okay, she was the only one left on the field. Flopped down to a squat, Yilas used her hand to draw the elements she saw in the books on the sand, trying to recall all the things she learned to keep herself from reminiscing the horrendous experience from a moment ago.
Yilas drew out many shapes from the books, she forgot how quickly the time had passed. Soon she heard Mame’s voice calling her from a distance, her head immediately poked to that direction.
“Yilas! Look what I found.” Mame yelled excitedly, she was dragging somebody by the collar of their shirt, Yilas instantly screamed “Yikes”. She felt bad for whoever got into the hand of Mame.
Mame dropped the person in front of Yilas, she smiled slyly with her teeth showing, Yilas thought she must have done something bad this time.
It was a young beast-man somewhere in his 20s, short white hair, the pair of long bunny eyes on his head was extremely adorable like he was wearing a costume. His face was also pretty, his feature was elegant and feminine like a female but his nose and the adam apple gave it away. His tall, straight nose was slim and it stood proudly, adding to the perfect idol-like face. The fact that he looked so much like a pop-star idol made Yilas had a difficult time making eye contact.
The bunny man wore nicely layered clothes and it had intricate white details on the fabric. His clothing stood most out of all the beasts Yilas had seen so far, he looked somewhat well-put-together like people in her time would say. After he was dropped, he stood up and brushed off the dirt that got on his fancy clothes. His face showed laziness, he didn’t even bother to bat an eye to Yilas and of course, his sassy behavior only made Yilas shyer.
Once Yilas stood up, she was still a head shorter than the man but he was shorter than Mame, so she guessed he was around 175-180 cm tall. Mame patted the youth back forcefully before introducing him to her with a smile.
“This is Mohsen, son of that old geezer, Kek, whom you already met. I brought him here to be your instructor! But don’t be deceived by his child-like face, he is actually a genius child, and now currently working as one of my generals. Come one, show her.”
Mame nudged Mohsen with her elbow, telling him to do something to prove himself. Yilas opened her eyes wide to watch him, the youth annoyedly rolled his eyes and then *POOF* he transformed into his complete civil-form. The man looked just like a human being now, Yilas gasped in awe and clapped her hand.
“Ta-dah!” Mohsen spoke in a monotone, unenthusiastic voice, he looked so pissed that Yilas felt bad for making him be here for her sake.
“Nice to meet you, Sir Mohsen, I am honored to be learning from you from now on.” Yilas bent her body, showing her respect to the kid who wasn’t much older than her.
Though surprised by the little female’s politeness, Mohsen didn’t act too much on it, he was still annoyed to be dragged out of his bed for this mess.
Mame cheered them on and explained her confusion with Yilas’s power to Mohsen, thinking he could have a better idea of what it was since he was one of the most talented beasts in the city. After thinking for some time, the man finally gasped as if he had come to a conclusion. Yilas and Mame were both eager watching to what he was about to say.
“It’s too much of a headache, I give up.” Mohsen shrugged his shoulders and turned hid body 180, he almost got away when Mame angrily grabbed his collar again and grunted through her teeth, Yilas could visibly see the fume coming out of her ears.
“You are not leaving until Yilas learn something!”
“Tsk… Alright, alright, I got it.” Mohsen agreed halfheartedly if he refused even just one more time Madam Mame might actually murder him.
He looked at the little brown ball in front of him, its eyes were the only things showing but it was not the easiest thing to look at. A nasty pinky scar the size of half a wrist smeared itself from one temple to another, the scar was so deep that the child’s left eye had turned white, sending a creepy cold chill down his spine.
‘Yuck, why did Madam pick up another pathetic creature?’ Mohsen thought of it but he didn’t say it out loud, Mame would surely execute him on the spot if he did.
“So did you do the standard tests?” Mohsen turned to asked Mame who had completely wiped off the anger on her face.
“Who do you think I am, of course! But it didn’t indicate much you see.” Mame continued to describe what she saw that day. Yilas, who was completely ignored by both of them, was also surprised by the information she had only learned at the moment.
“I think the problem isn’t what she can and can’t do. It’s more like, she is completely unaware of what she’s capable of. And if she had only been reading higher-level books, she wouldn’t know anything about the basic flow of the body. Which in turn will tarnish how her ‘chi’ produces those energies.” Mohsen went on and on with his theory, even Mame got lost somewhere along the way.
It was true that having only feeding higher-level books to Yilas was a mistake, but after the tests happened Mame thought Yilas needed something different from the regular approach.
“And one answer to why you can’t see her ‘chi’ is because she might be able to use all of them, and even more, the energy she produces is something even more powerful.” Mame was surprised, but what Mohsen came up with didn’t totally make no sense.
“That, or she controls the earth element in a problematic way.”
Mohsen shrugged his shoulders, after that he suddenly said he was tired and refused to think any more than that. He took off his outer coat and laid it as a mattress on the sandy floor, ignoring Mame and Yilas.
“Yilas, try to follow my moves.” If basics were the problem, Mame decided to teach Yilas from the most fundamental things.
Basic movements or the 13 moves to prepare the body were something that was taught to help beasts produce the most power and flowed the energy through their body and mind more fluently. Though through many generations, and with many revolutions, beasts had long been skipping these steps.
Yilas was not only a book-smart girl, but her body also reacted quickly to the movement Mame made. It learned every swing of the arm and every turn of the legs almost instantly and after a while, Yilas started to see the resemblance of the Taichi’s movement in the “fundamental” steps Mame was teaching her.
Yilas used to watch old members of the hospital practiced Taichi (a Chinese ancient martial art style) every morning, she had always thought it was a fun little show. Though she unconsciously remembered their motion through watching them.
“Keep practicing it until you remember them all by heart.”
Mame didn’t instruct any further, she went and sat down next to Mohsen and sighed. Watching the little girl working so hard under a heated fur coat made her worried, what if she got a heat stroke, she thought.
“She’s gonna be fine.” Mohsen suddenly voiced his opinion, making Mame jumped out of surprise, she thought he was deep asleep next to her.
“I’m not worried about that.” Mame denied even though deep down she was actually worried sick.
“Your heart is beating faster, you’re sweating more than usual,…”
“Fine! Fine, I was worried.” Mame interrupted the annoying Mohsen, she couldn’t even lie to the little brat. “But not because of how she was doing.”
“Is it because Bryok might find out that she had escaped? And you were the one helping her?”
