My League Of Villains - Chapter 2 Today Is The Day
For the next few weeks, Izuku looked up everything about Police Academy Highschools. Which were the best ones, and the requirements needed to enrol. He surfed the internet, on the hunt for every piece of information he could find about history, famous alumni, professors and also reviews and opinions about the schools from prestigious news outlets and from other students and people in the Police Force. It was his last year of Junior High and he had to hasten his decision about the future. It was true he had one year, but to decide at the last minute… It was too sloppy and way too risky! Now that his dream of being a hero was shattered by the number one her himself, he needed to rethink his life and his goals. After all, it was impossible to do his best without a clear goal to focus on. Of course, second-hand information wasn’t enough for him, so he went to the Academies himself. The one which impressed him the most was Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Academy. Despite the simple name, it was the best in the country, and one of the best in the world. The structures were top notch, and the teachers were all professionals or former/retired agents from the Police Force, the JSDF, private agencies and even the secret services. Most of its students would then go to the National Defense Academy or other prestigious Universities. It was a hard path but for now, the hardest thing was actually reaching all the requirements. First of all, you had to score at least 95/100 points on the Final Exam and pass the Junior Military Physical Exam. After this came the main obstacle: the entrance exams!
Since every year TMPA allowed entrance only to the top 300 of all the applicants (who last year were more than 2000!), it was of utmost importance to not only score the minimum but to exceed it by far, if one wanted to have a chance of being admitted. The minimum itself wasn’t easy to reach. It was rare, but there were cases when less than 300 students were admitted because they were the only ones to achieve it. The entrance exams sessions were three:
The Written Exams: Quiz Test (Geography, Mathematics, Sciences, Logic; required: 80/100), Written Essay (Literature, History, General Knowledge; required: 75/100), English Test (required: 85/100).
The Practical Exams: changes every year (required: Unknown), Quirk (bonus points 0-10).
Oral Exams: Interview (bonus points 0-10), English (required: 85/100).
Others might think it was impossible, but he was used to trying impossible things. This time, it would be different though. This time he would succeed.
With the goal clear in his mind, Izuku started his preparations. Every day he studied and trained, sometimes even at the same time. His mom seemed worried about him, but he didn’t have time to care. Without even a bit of free time, he worked hard for a whole year. He went to cram school and he even subscribed to a dojo. Here he met Takanori Jinnai, a middle-aged man obsessed with martial arts. He always talked about his past career as a professional hero that was interrupted tragically by his problems with the law. The only problem with his story was that there wasn’t any record of it. Neither his hero past nor his problems with the law. Despite this, Midoriya quickly befriended him, and they often discussed and ate together at the ramen shop after the workouts. As soon as he heard about his dream, and the fact that he was quirkless, he took it upon himself to become his “master”. Which meant putting him through hell and beating him up, in the name of teaching him “how to fight and not getting killed like a scrub”. At first, Izuku started to hate and fear the man, but, after a month of this harsh training, he realized he was actually helping him a lot. One year wasn’t enough to match years of experience, so Jinnai simply hammered in his body and soul the basics of all the martial arts he deemed useful. If he couldn’t beat them with quality, he would surprise them with quantity. Of course, for the future, it was better to focus only on one or two things, but in the current situation, this was the best chance he had. It was his fault for putting his time and energies in a lost cause for so long. It was thanks to him he passed the Junior Military Physical Exam so easily. When the letter with the results came, the dojo organized a big party for him. It was one of the happiest days of his life.
Midoriya pushed his way through the crowd of students. Sweat was oozing from every inch of his skin, and his teeth were tightly clenched. Finally, he was in front of the wall where the results of the Final Exam of his Junior Highschool were affixed. He held his breath looking for his name in the middle of the rankings, from a force of habit. Filled with hope, he darted his gaze up at the top positions. He had always been a good student, but he never made it in the top positions. Not this time. His smile was huge as he read his name.
1st Izuku Midoriya 100/100
Tears of joy wet the corners of his eyes. He made it! All his hard work paid off, and he met all the requirements to apply for the Entrance Exams at TMPA!
“Tsk! That nerd Deku…!”
A few steps from him a familiar figure was fuming with anger. It was Bakugou. He wondered what place he got.
2nd Katsuki Bakugou 92/100
He gasped. He knew that Kacchan, despite his hot temper, was a good student too, but it seemed this time he also put in more effort than usual. It was obvious he took his path as a hero seriously, and that he was earnestly preparing for the Entrance Exams at U.A. High School.
When he got home, he relaxed after a long time of stress and hardships. It was only one week before the Exams, but he chose to stop steamrolling through his days and nights, at least until the day before them. He needed a break to release all the mental fatigue accumulated throughout the year.
He quickly sent the inscription and all the documentation necessary, both through email and through the postal service, just to be sure. He even preordered his seat on the train to Tokyo. After checking thrice everything was fine, he collapsed on the bed.
“Izuku, wake up! You will be late for the train… Oh, you’re already awake!”
“I couldn’t sleep. I-I was too nervous” he said in a trembling voice.
His mom panicked and grabbed him by the shoulders.
“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? W-will you be okay?”
Midoriya freshened up with two slaps, then he took his backpack and ran out of the house.
“Don’t worry! I’m going to make it. For sure!”
While taking the train to Tokyo, a bittersweet smile was on his face. He thought about when he wanted to become a hero. It was all in the past now, but he wondered if he made the right choice…
He shook his head. It wasn’t important. Now wasn’t the time to regret. It was too late, and it was also ruining his mood. Today wasn’t the day to groom over his broken dreams and missed opportunities. Today, was the day he took his first real step towards his new life!
