My League Of Villains - Chapter 5 Soul Crushing Exams 3
Midoriya refrained from biting his nails. In front of him, there were his thirteen teammates. Would it be better to call them his subordinates? He had never been the captain of anything until now, and now his decisions would influence not only his but also the others’ future. The responsibility was weighing down on his shoulders. But most probably, in the end, if someone disagreed with his decisions he would just ignore them and do what he wanted.
“Ok, now that everyone’s here, we can start. My name is Izuku Midoriya and it seems I’ll be the captain. We are the third round, so we have some time for introductions! State your name, quirk, and useful skills.”
The air in the locker room wasn’t hostile but it wasn’t warm and friendly either. It was understandable since they were all ambitious guys with a strong personality and charisma.
“I’m Eiichiro Soba. My quirk is ‘Soy Wave’: I can spill soy sauce from my hands.”
Nobody laughed. Izuku didn’t think it was a bad thing, but he saw it happen a lot before. He had it bad, but people with weird, weak or useless quirks were also a target for bullying and injustices. Eiichiro was surprised too. He ran his hand through his long blonde hair and smiled. Even if he had a weird quirk like that, with those jaw-dropping looks, girls surely flocked to his side.
“Tsuneo Ishikawa. My quirk is ‘High Five’. When I slap something, it sparks a stationary electric charge. It hurts, but it’s not powerful enough to stun someone.”
It was clear now why he was wearing gloves in the middle of July. Tsuneo had grey hair and blue eyes hidden behind a round pair of glasses.
“I’m Akito Mutsu. I can emit light from my hair, eyes, hands and feet” said a short boy. He was twirling his brown hair and it was obvious he didn’t think highly of his quirk.
“My name is Haruto Gakusha. I can change the colour of any part of my body.” As he said that, his skin hue changed 12 times in a single second. I was impressive and beautiful but not very useful at the moment.
“Hello, I am Manabu Onishi. I have night vision and I know a little bit of Kendo.”
He was a tall guy and looked like a serious person. Midoriya was scribbling down everything in his old hero notebook while muttering under his breath. His teammates were a little scared. They thought they hit the jackpot with such a careful and focused captain.
“Taro Nakamoto. Super-human hand-eye coordination. I know how to use a gun.”
Concise and of few words, Taro had a military haircut and was already inspecting the equipment.
“Benkei Osaka. Liquids which come in contact with my skin gradually freeze. I practice Aikido”
Benkei didn’t look much like the famous monk who had the same name but the aura around him was the same. He was seemed scranny, but it was obvious that his large clothes hid some well-toned muscles.
“Masahide Shimizu. I have super hearing. I can hear everything in a 2.5 km radius.” The others were surprised when he talked. After all, he was wearing his headphones, and the volume was so high they were listening to his music too.
“Daiki Ariyoshi. All my joints can do a 360 rotation.”
He shyly observed the expressions around the room and let out a sigh of relief. Daiki thought he wasn’t as good as the ones before him, so he was worried the others would be disappointed.
“Ren Ryuzaki. The quirk is ‘Telekinesis’. It’s not so powerful though. I can lift and freely move about 150 kg in 50 meters range. I train in Muay Thai and Kenjutsu” he paused and glared with annoyance at the impressed faces around him, “It’s actually considered Middle-Low level with this kind of quirk, you know?”
“Naoto Suzuki. I can generate fire from the back of my limbs and freely control flames, but only those I create. I do Karate and Judo.”
Izuku briefly stopped his mad writing to look at the two. Ryuzaki was sitting in a relaxed position and his jet black hair partially covered his sleepless black eyes. He was wearing casual clothes and on his t-shirt, there was the mark of a coffee cup. Suzuki had dark hair and eyes too, but his demeanour was the opposite: he was rigidly standing in front of the bench like a real soldier during a roll call. Everything in him was shouting precision and diligence. Staring at those two he wondered why they didn’t try enrolling at U.A. since they certainly had the right credentials.
[Bah, whatever, everyone lives his own life] He strengthened the grip on the pencil and pressed it on the paper. He had to write all this down to have a clear understanding of the situation and make a good battle plan.
“Yasuo Watabe. As you can see, I’m an owl man.”
His words broke off the tension even before it formed properly. His wings flapped a few times. The majestic appearance and the wonderful brown plumage with black spots made them gasp in amazement. Sticking out of his hair at both sides of the head, his ear tufts were the major hint in recognizing his resemblance with an owl. His large golden eyes seemed to reach out to the core of their souls. Embarrassed, he folded his wings and rubbed his hands on his pants to wipe off the sweat.
“Kenji Tokuda. I’m quirkless.”
Everybody fixed their sights on him. It was unbearable, but he was used to it. Adding his pale skin and slim constitution, he was a burden for the rest. But the strange thing was that he didn’t seem troubled at all. In fact, he was the most confident one of the bunch.
“Oh, don’t worry, I’m quirkless too!” said Midoriya smiling at him.
The atmosphere went from cold to sub-zero in an instant. Not only there were two quirkless ones on the team, one of them was their captain! All the little trust they had put in him burst like a bubble of soap. Tsuneo Ishikawa stood up.
“This… For both of you to attempt the Exams you should have some kind of insurance. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but this is a team effort, so, can I test your strength?”
“Oh? Do you dare to speak up with your lame quirk? Fine, come at me, but you won’t even be enough to ‘test’ me fairly.”
Kenji’s smug words hit where it hurt quite a few people. He cracked his knuckles.
“Well, you won’t mind if I join too then”
“Let’s where all this arrogance is coming from!”
Ariyoshi and Gakusha both joined Tsuneo and sprinted towards him. The room was quite large and a large space in the middle was quickly made. They were about to start the fight when Midoriya, out of nowhere, put himself between them.
“Stop!”
