My Left Eye Can See Ghosts - chapter 51
Chapter 51: Return A Personal Favor
The next day, the sky was overcast, and the dark clouds covered the sky above the school as if it might collapse from above at any time.
The doors and windows in the classroom were closed, and it was so depressing that the oxygen felt thin.
Every minute, every second, felt difficult to endure.
I sat next to the window and wanted to open the window, but I was afraid that the wind would be too cold for my neck and finally endured it untill lunch break. Cheng Fengfeng pestered me to go to the store in the northwest corner of the school and said she was going to treat me to a meal, but in such humid weather, who would have the appetite to eat?
I only chose to have a piece of bread and a bottle of water.
The two of us found an empty seat in the store to sit down and settle our lunch. She asked me, “Did you think of a good way?”
I shook my head.
Her small face dropped, and she lay on the table lifelessly without saying a word.
I didn’t know why, but when I thought of blood, my mind couldn’t help but flash through to Teacher Wu’s face. However, Teacher Wu’s job was to cure mental illness, and his infirmary had nothing to do with blood.
Should I seek help from Teacher Wu? He graduated from medical school and was a high-achieving student. He should still have seniors or juniors working at the hospital, right?
I secretly made up my mind, stretched out my hand, and pushed Cheng Fengfeng’s arm. She raised her eyelids lazily, looked at me, and said weakly, “What are you doing?”
“Come with me.”
“Where?”
“Of course, it’s to find a way to get blood.”
Her eyes lit up. She stood up immediately and pulled me out of the shop. I told her my thoughts, and she found it unrealistic.
“Why would Teacher Wu help you?”
“Because I helped him before.”
“You were a kid in your teens. What could you have done for him?”
Cheng Fengfeng’s words suffocated me. If I told her the truth, I’m sure that she would be frightened out of her wits. However, if I don’t say anything, she will think that I am bragging.
Let it be, just let her think that I’m bragging! Besides, it is uncertain whether Teacher Wu will help us.
We went back to the dormitory obediently and sneaked out only after the dormitory aunty did her roll call, running out of school through the back door.
I took all my belongings with me when I came out this time. However, Cheng Fengfeng didn’t let me pay a cent for the taxi fee. Of course, she was rich, and I, a poor person, would not snatch the opportunity to pay from her.
I remembered that Teacher Wu’s studio was called ‘Sunshine Psychological Counseling Centre.’ The taxi driver drove us around for a long time and finally managed to send us there only after asking his friend.
It was lunch break at the studio, and even though there was a ‘Lunch Break’ reminder sign on the door, we still walked in recklessly.
The hall was empty. There was a single office with the door open, and voices could be heard from inside.
I tiptoed forward, and I could hear the voice of the person speaking clearer when I got nearer to the office. The voice was familiar. Who else would it be except for Teacher Wu?
I was overjoyed and rushed over. The office was quite extensive, and the decoration was comfortable and minimalistic. Teacher Wu was the only person inside, and he was on the phone.
He was dressed casually, wearing a formal white shirt and a dark brown sweater. It made him look very gentle.
I pulled Cheng Fengfeng and knocked on the door politely. Teacher Wu looked up and was stunned to see me. He then smiled at both of us and beckoned for us to enter.
He motioned us to sit anywhere we liked and continued talking on the phone again, but this time he ended the call after a few sentences.
He hung up his phone, placed his phone down on the table, and looked at us with a warm smile.
“Ji Sixi, and you are…” He looked at Cheng Fengfeng since he couldn’t remember her name.
I reminded him, “Cheng Fengfeng.”
“Yes, Cheng Fengfeng. Why are you two here?”
I touched my head and smiled, “We were passing by and stopped to meet you.”
He didn’t believe it, “It’s school hours now.”
“We have something we want to ask you for help,” I said bluntly.
He laughed, “What’s the matter?”
I told him about Cheng Fengfeng’s supernatural incident. He nodded his head thoughtfully and murmured, “In other words, you need the blood of girls of the same age?”
We nodded our heads rapidly.
He walked back and forth in the room with his eyebrows furrowed as if he was thinking of a way.
Cheng Fengfeng pulled my arm slightly and asked me in a whisper, “Will Teacher Wu help me?”
I was about to speak, but Teacher Wu was ahead of me. He said, “This is not easy to handle. The legal age requirement for blood donation is eighteen years old, so there is no way that the blood bank in the hospital has the blood of sixteen-year-old teenagers. You have to understand this.”
Cheng Fengfeng felt deflated after hearing what Teacher Wu said. She leaned her head on my shoulder and was lifeless.
“But, we can think of a way,” Teacher Wu continued, “For example, I can go to your school and give free blood tests and draw their blood. The amount drawn will be little, but it should be enough with so many people in the school.”
“Isn’t that troublesome? And…this is cheating,” I felt a little confused.
Teacher Wu smiled, “But don’t you want to save people?”
I nodded, and he said, “Since it’s under the premise to save people, why should you care so much? Everyone will only draw a little bit of blood, it will not affect their bodies.”
“Then, are you going to do it yourself?”
“Of course, I graduated from a prestigious medical university with a doctor’s license,” When he said this, he was in high spirits.
He looked at his calendar for this week- perhaps he happened to be relatively idle recently. He decided to launch a free voluntary blood test campaign in school on Friday that week itself.
He said that he would contact the school in advance, and Cheng Fengfeng and I wouldn’t have to worry about anything. He would take care of everything.
Cheng Fengfeng was grateful to him, and she shed tears of gratitude.
Teacher Wu sent us out after we had finished discussing and stopped to get a taxi for us. He did not forget to say to me, “This time, I have returned you the favor.”
“Thank you, Teacher Wu.”
He smiled warmly, raised his wrist, looked at his watch, and urged, “You have twenty minutes left.”
“We are going to go now, Teacher Wu. Thank you very much.”
Cheng Fengfeng was very happy, and she kept waving to Teacher Wu in the car.
…
We got back to school just in time. The school bell rang as we just reached the dormitory.
The few people who were sleeping were awakened by the bell and got up in a daze to get dressed.
Cheng Fengfeng sat on the bed, took a few breaths, and smiled stupidly at me.
“Thank you, Sixi.”
I wiped the sweat from my forehead and felt relieved.
I deliberately teased her, “Just saying thank you is so boring. Why don’t you take care of all my three meals this month?”
She slapped her chest, “No problem. A few months is also not a problem.”
I was just kidding. How could I really let her take care of my three meals?
