My (Monster?) Hero Life - Chapter 329
Kace felt his skin burning from the heat as his hair whipped backwards in the air. ‘Damn it, Rysa! Watch what you’re doing!’ He squinted towards the two giant figures as they exchanged blows. The bone golem’s torso became blackened from Rysa’s flames, and some of its bones showed visible cracks.
‘It’ll be hard to intervene in that fight.’ Kace slashed behind him with Sylvan in his scythe form. He confirmed the death of another undead through the images his hydra head sent to him. ‘I’ll have to settle for the weaklings nearby.’
Kace sprinted flat out. Leaping from rooftop to rooftop as he rained spells down on the enemies below. Now and then he would drop to the streets below. ‘Where are they?’ Since he could do nothing about Constance for now, he focused on saving any monsters that were left behind.
Kace’s heart pounded in his chest as he cut down another five enemies. There was a glint in his golden eyes as he fixed his gaze on the goblins he had just saved. “What are you waiting for? Get going!”
The goblins thanked him with panicked voices before racing off in the airship’s direction. Kace nodded once he confirmed they had left the street safely. ‘Is there anyone else?’ He focused on listening for any sounds of fighting nearby, but it seemed like he was out of luck.
A loud screech rang out from Rysa as she drew back from the Bone Golem. Part of her flames had turned green. It seemed like those flames were trying to destroy her normal ones. ‘Is that Constance’s magic?’ Kace frowned as he studied its effects.
‘If it’s a normal poison, I’ll be able to handle it, but I don’t think it’s that simple.’ Kace trembled with excitement as he watched the battle unfolding. ‘If Rysa can keep the golem busy, maybe I can drag Constance away from its protection.’
There was a glint in Kace’s eye as darted off in their direction once more. He would have to time it right. If he got caught up in the middle of them exchanging blows, then he would end up severely wounded in the best-case scenario. Kace used the buildings as cover while he made his approach.
He kept checking on the golem to make sure that they were facing away from him whenever he had to expose himself. The closer he got to the battlefield, the more he ran into Constance’s undead. ‘Damn! Will she notice if they get injured?’ Kace could not help but wonder if there may be a link between them. This would make his ambush much less effective.
Kace grit his teeth before deciding that he had no other choice. He rushed into the crowd before him as he slashed madly all around. The attention of the undead surrounding him immediately focused on his presence! Kace quickly glanced towards Constance in the distance, but she either did not notice or did not care.
Kace grinned as he nimbly dodged a Bone Shard aimed at his back. ‘Kinetic Vision!’ His eyes danced across his enemies, taking in their every movement. He had already dodged their attacks the moment that they started them. Anyone watching the fight would have likened him to a veritable god of death.
Heads, limbs, and entrails flew all around him. Painting a macabre scene as he decimated the crowd. He moved with an unreal grace between his enemies as he sidestepped, flipped, rolled and deflected every attack thrown at him. The strain it was placing on him was simply unreal. His mind was struggling to keep up with so much information that his eyes and Hydra head sent to it.
Kace felt a sharp pain generating deep in his mind. His own body was rebelling against the abuse that he was putting it through. However, Kace ignored all of this as he pressed onwards. He had already left two streets behind filled with his gruesome art.
The undead wised up to the situation. They backed off as he came too close and opted to overwhelm him with ranged abilities. Kace frowned at how quickly they had adapted. He had hoped to cut their numbers down even further, but it was unlikely that he could achieve that in a brief space of time now.
They fired a wall of Bone Shards at him from three sides, forcing him to escape to the Shadow Realm to avoid it. The undead appeared confused when their target disappeared. They spread out and away from Constance’s fight with Rysa to try to locate him. Their reaction was better than Kace could have hoped for. They were voluntarily weakening the defences around Constance for him!
Kace swiftly swam through the murky darkness for as far as he could before he felt forced to surface. Swoosh! His scythe cut several heads in half to prevent the undead from communicating his new location to the others. Kace gasped for air as he squinted towards the Bone Golem. With his speed, he could reach it in a few minutes from this place.
A loud screech came from the air as Rysa circled overhead. Nearly half of her flames had turned green by this point, but she was still fighting. A hail of fire rained down on the golem from Rysa’s body. Smoke filled the air, briefly obscuring Kace’s vision of the battle. With bated breath, he awaited the result of Rysa’s recent attack.
As the smoke cleared, he was treated to the sight of one of the golem’s arms crumbling to pieces. ‘It looks like Rysa actually managed to hurt it! Now, I just need to drag Constance away!’ Kace hovered in the shadows around the edge of their fight. His body felt tense as he awaited a golden opportunity. His mind was so focused on the pair that he almost failed to react to the warning his Hydra part sent to him.
An undead howled from somewhere behind him. As Kace’s head snapped around to look at it, Constance’s gaze was pulled in his direction. Her expression was calm as she took in the sight of him being so close by. ‘Another rat to deal with…’
