124 Interrogation by the sister. Leave him.
The beginning of the marriage was rather tame in comparison to the grand weddings the rich men usually held, but as the food was served, the people from all walks of life slowly began to settle onto the ground and just eat.
Many had tears going down their eyes as they ate; many were just children who were being given something good, something really good, to eat after days if not months. And to such people who struggled to make ends meet, the food they ate today was well and beyond something heavenly.
Not all people of the Seven Continents hailed from a clan like the Starlight Family, Ravens, or Rocks. Such clans came to be because of strong Power Born individuals like the Clan Heads. If they were not there, such clans wouldn’t have existed. Vissit n𝒐velbin(.)c𝒐m for 𝒏ew 𝒏ovels
But they all had a Spark in their soul from birth that they could Awaken to grow stronger. They also had the right to dream.
But as Liyue’s gaze moved from one beggar eating Yue Li’s special dish that was served with teary eyes to another, she couldn’t help but feel bad for them; she couldn’t help but pity them. She was eating such things on a daily base, and she had never even stopped to appreciate it.
She couldn’t help but see another side of life she hadn’t seen yet.
Maybe her big brother being cruel—at least in his own words—might also have reasons she didn’t understand completely.
Among these beggars, a vast majority were crippled. Some had immovable hands, some had actual physical deformities, while some more had issues on par with her own mother, Li Yao, and were being dragged by children to sit and then fed the puffy white race and the side dishes.
‘As Big Brother said, the world is cruel, and we could only attempt to have some semblance of control… with what I am given, if I don’t do my best, it is a sin on its own.’
Her husband was not beside her; he was on another side, talking with some of the guests and inquiring around to get a sense of what had happened earlier, but she didn’t mind; he had promised to give her a wedding gift, and she was anticipating what it would be.
She could also see some children beginning to hang lanterns around the area.
“Liyue, what are you thinking?” Hua Feilan, her friend, asked from the side teasingly, “About how tonight would be?”
Liyue shook her head. Somehow rather comfortable around this woman. Like a person she had been familiar with for years.
“I am wondering what our children would be like. Would they be like him or me or my mothers…” she wondered really curiously.
Hua Feilan chuckled. “Fantasizing about children even before you bed him. Gotta leave it to you for having found someone you liked. And I did research on him on my own, too, for your sake if you want to know.”
“Oh?” her interest sparked; she looked at Hua Feilan curiously.
“Han Li, son of Yue Li and some mysterious person. He had no Spark from the day he was born, was ostracized by the children his age, and had many weird rumors going on around him and his background. Even his mother was a source of rumors, too.”
Seeing Liyue was listening, she nodded and continued. “But he is known for his uprightness in relationships and his cooking in the Starlight Zone, and now known for something rather weird, which I would like to confirm from you, if I am not rude, that is. Of course, I like to believe there is nothing like rudeness between friends.”
Liyue tilted her head. “Why are you doing such research, though, Big Sis?”
Hua Feilan patted Liyue’s head without roughing up her hair. She was tall enough to do that. In fact, Han Li was a bit shorter than Hua Feilan.
“Liyue, this world is vast and everyone is not the way they seem. Especially men. They can be animals, demons even. How can I hand a cute girl to someone I couldn’t trust? My conscience would kill me if something happened to you because I was too lazy to research.”
Liyue smiled wryly at Hua Feilan through her red veil. “Brother Han won’t harm me. In fact, I can guess what you are about to question too… but go on, I will answer.”
“What happened to your Father, Pang Li?”
Liyue shook her head. “I had thought till today that he had just gone up and walked away from our lives one day, but supposedly, that was not the case. But only Big Brother knows the full picture, and he has yet to tell me. But he did say it was not as it appeared, though. And he also told me father’s current location, which I would like to keep to myself.”
“What about…” This time, the ever-heroic voice of Hua Feilan seemed a bit softer: “What about that man’s relationship with your mother? There are these weird rumors going on that he also uhm, has your mother under his wraps.”
Liyue blushed furiously under her veil and looked away, muttering inside herself, ‘How shameful… I should have let Big Brother Han handle her.’
Hua Feilan squinted at Liyue and nodded. But asked in a faint voice, “Are you against that relationship? Are you being forced in any way or form?”
Liyue looked at Hua Feilan like she was looking at a fool. “Even I could see how happy I look at marrying him. Is that question even necessary? In fact, my brother Han and I had been living together for months now. This marriage is actually just a formality and not anything like you think. So no need to worry about me.”
Sighing, Hua Feilan nodded.
“He did seem like a decent person; now, my last question, Liyue, and the most important.”
Liyue was curious now. “Liyue, do you know the consequences that may follow by marrying a Spark-less?”
Liyue was startled by the question, and Hua Feilan could see right through it. She frowned.
