My Naughty Fake Bride - 109 Man Up
If it continued, Zang Fang would have been forced to put his mystery girl out of his mind and had worked as hard as he could for the next three months to be able to get back on the schedule that he wanted. At the end of a month, Zang Fang achieved his goal, but he had not been pleased it had been at the expense of his girl.
Good thing he was back in the country.
Zang Fang buckled up and waited as patiently as he could for the airplane to land. He ignored the hostess flirting with him in favor of looking out the window. He was sincerely glad to be in the city, especially because he’d finally get the chance to look forward to his mystery girl.
The plane finally taxied to a stop, and Zang Fang unbuckled himself eagerly. He packed up his laptop and his small bag quickly, very eager to leave the claustrophobic space of the plane. He passed the hostess who gave him a disappointed look as he ignored her and hightailed it out of the plane.
Private flying didn’t require as much time as it took in the airport as it did with commercial flying; therefore, Zang Fang was out if the airport in ten minutes. His car was waiting for him in front of the airport. His driver, more like his borrowed driver from Suzuki Kyou, was standing in front of the car with eyes twinkling.
‘Ah, I need to work on my own staff.’ He thought to himself. Zang Fang mostly live in hotels when he was in the city. However, in the month that he was working with the resort hotel overseas, he had already bought his own place.
“Good afternoon, sir.” The driver said his eyes were still twinkling with amusement.
Zang Fang shook his head and laughed before getting into the car. He waited for his driver to enter the car before replying.
“Good afternoon. How much do I owe you?” Zang Fang asked good-natured about the whole issue.
Zang Fang had made a bet with his driver that he would be back in a week. His driver hadn’t trusted the foreman half as much as Zang Fang did, so he’d bet for at least a month, and the driver won that bet.
“Just a hundred and twenty sir,” The driver said before bursting into laughter.
Zang Fang grinned and paid his driver about a hundred more than necessary. He was all too pleased to be back to haggle over the price.
They made small talk on the drive to Zang Fang’s place, not getting into the reason why he’d been gone for so long.
The driver had been with his family since Suzuki Kyou himself was a child. But he was not his daily driver anymore, just to old age. He was in charge of driving guests around, just like Zang Fang.
Probably, the driver had seen a whole lot of things that would have made him rich if he’d sold out to the tabloids, but the driver hadn’t.
This made the man richer than he’d have been if he’d sold out. His loyalty had been well rewarded by Suzuki Kyou, and Zang Fang had been glad he’d been able to talk to someone such a loyal and honest man at some point.
“We’re here, sir.” The driver said. Zang Fang smiled at the man and got out of the car.
“Thanks. I’ll see you when Kyou let me borrow you,” Zang Fang said as he got his things out of the car.
The driver gave him a sharp salute and drove off. Zang Fang walked into his house, grinning. One of the things he had arranged was a housekeeper.
When he arrived, the new housekeeper was very glad to see him judging by her enthusiastic greeting and the cookies she’d baked in preparation for his return. Zang Fang was all to please with this and followed her to the kitchen.
The housekeeper had left a tabloid magazine open, the headline screaming: The truth or a scam? Zang Fang normally wouldn’t have paid attention to this if it wasn’t for the woman in it looks exactly like his mystery girl. He reigned his emotions as he stares at her smiling, as if she was at him through the magazine.
Zang Fang quickly scanned the magazine, not giving anything away to his housekeeper. He requested a tray instead of sitting in the kitchen. He feigned being tired and hurried up to his room with his tray and the bag containing his laptop.
He devoured his food as he set up his computer as patiently as he could. He’d waited almost two months to discover who his girl was. He could wait another few minutes.
Zang Fang quickly typed in the name he’d read on the magazine on the search bar. Han Mei.
That was his mystery girl’s name. ‘She’d never gave him her name,’ Zang Fang bitterly thought as he scrolled through several articles mentioning his girl.
Zang Fang clicked on an article at random. It mentioned several things he’d not known about his girl more than a month ago.
One, she’d been set to marry his friend Suzuki Kyou. The engagement party was just recently.
He continued to read, even though his hands were shaking, and when he felt his heart trembling with uncontrollable pain and frustration.
The urge of wanting to destroy something was so much.
He clenched his fists and breathed in and out. His only consolation was the fact that the wedding did not take place yet.
Zang Fang clicked on the link that led him to the original article of their press release more like an engagement party. He clicked on the video from the press release so he could see his girl’s face again. She was seated at one side of Suzuki Kyou, and she looked stunning while wearing a white dress.
“Important questions only. Time is essential.” Zang Fang heard Suzuki Kyou started.
He allowed himself a small smile despite his discomfort. His friend really didn’t like the press. Suzuki Kyou probably hated that they were wasting his time.
Zang Fang looked at his girl that was looking at the media with a small smile, but held no fear.
For him, she looked different. Before, she looked so weak and vulnerable, but at this time, she did not.
‘Because, now, she has someone to depend on.’ An annoying part of his brain stated.
Zang Fang endured watching the whole video and decided to hire whatever public relations firm Suzuki Kyou was using. They were good. Well, Suzuki Kyou was not someone to be trifled with.
He watched as Suzuki Kyou played the press to their advantage, making the press look like idiots rather than themselves.
Zang Fang checked the date of the engagement party. It was just so recent, but Suzuki Kyou did not even bother to invite him. He also laughed at that idea as he was not sure how he could handle looking at his girl with someone else in front of his eyes. He might end up kidnapping her.
‘I am really asshole.’ Zang Fang thought to himself.
In truth, there was nothing between them. He was technically a one night stand that she never wanted in the first place. In fact, he had the feeling that Han Mei would not want to see him again after all of the things he did. Damn, he technically run away after doing the deed because he was so ashamed and feeling guilty.
She was probably mad at him since she never call the number he had left in her house before.
Still, he had never forgotten about her. Zang Fang still owes her a lot.
‘At least, man up, and apologize. If you need to kneel, do so.’ Zang Fang realized. He released a heavy sigh before he started searching for his phone, where he’d carelessly tossed it in the computer bag. It was time to call his friend. Suzuki Kyou picked up at the second ring.
“You’re back.” Suzuki Kyou said without any inflections on his voice.
