My One And Only - Chapter 14 Murat Sarsilmaz 1
Nina Saltzman was furious. The day announcement had been made, she had returned from her foreign trip and was relaxing, combing through Facebook news. Just then, she had noticed a picture and the headline above it. Scrolling through the news feed, her eyes growing red, anger etched in her face, she came across the phrase ‘ The Power Couple ‘.
Throwing the phone across the room, it smashed into pieces when it made contact with the wall.
That bitch! How dare she take what’s mine? What was more, how had Arnav agreed to this marriage? As far as she could recall, he had never shown any interest in Sofya. If that was the case, Mr. Raizada must have forced him, which could only mean her father would be able to help her in this case. He had never said no to her, and she was sure he wouldn’t this time also.
Nina had waited that night for her father to return home. When they had sat down for dinner, she seized the opportunity.
” Daddy, I want to ask you for something. Please don’t refuse. ” Nina started in a sweet voice.
Mr. Saltzman, who was busy cutting his pork chops, sighed inwardly. He looked at her, thinking about how he had spoilt her from childhood. He was wrong, he knew that, but his fatherly love prevented him otherwise.
” What is it? ” he asked her, stuffing the chop in his mouth.
” Can you please talk to Mr. Raizada to cancel the marriage of Arnav to Miss Khemka? I love Arnav very much and won’t be able to live without him . ”
Mr. Saltzman goggled at her. He had never dreamed her request would be such an absurd one. They had been good friends for many years, but that simply did not mean he could ask him to do whatever he wanted, there was a borderline to everything. Moreover, he knew about the promise.
” Nina, It’s not possible. ” he answered her flatly.
” But Daddy –
” Just drop it, okay? it’s not up for discussion. ” Mr. Saltzman said angrily, slamming his fork on the table.
Nina said nothing, but the anger within her grew. Just what was in this Sofya girl that even her father had refused to help her? No, she couldn’t afford to lose to that slut. She would break this marriage herself, if she had to, either by hook or crook.
An evil smile was unfurling on her face as a plan formed in her mind. Her ‘ other plan ‘ was already in motion. You just wait and watch Sofya! I will not spare you for claiming what’s mine. I will tear you down piece by piece.

One Month Later…
” Welcome back, Miss Khemka. It has been too long. ”
Sawyer bowed, smiling.
As Sofya alighted from the private jet, she saw her most reliable assistant, holding the door for her.
The same old winds of New York hit her face, making her feel home.
” Thank you. How’s your wife doing? ”
” Fine, Miss Khemka. ”
After settling in the car comfortably, Nancy and Sawyer brought her up to date on the events of the company. Nothing much had happened, except for the fact that the company was running real smooth and profits were touching the skies. Though Sofya doubted that one-fourth of the credit must go to their marriage announcement.
” Oh, and Mr. Murat called. ”
” He’s back? ” Sofya asked excitedly, her eyes wide.
Murat and Sofya were school friends. Murat hailed from one of the most prestigious Sarsilmaz family, who were considered something of as a royalty. He was an only child, and a docile one too, so everyone expected him to take up the family business once he came of age. But, then he had shocked everyone with his decision.
The last she had heard of Murat was he had gone to study law in the US, against the wishes of his parents. He had thrown a right little tantrum until he was allowed to go, on which his parents had given up grudgingly. However, he had not received any financial support from his father, as he had disowned him. His aunt, who had never married, and had doted on him since childhood, had provided him with the funds to study. At the time, Murat had promised her that he would become one of the greatest lawyer this world has ever seen, a passion burnt by fire and his father’s negligence.
Thinking about the past, she couldn’t help but feel sympathetic for him.
” Where is he now? ” Sofya asked Sawyer quizzically, as the car hit a red light.
” At his new firm. ”
” Let’s go there. Then you can take the car back to company. ”
” But, Miss Khemka ” Nancy turned around in her seat, a complete 180 degree, disapproval clearly written on her face, ” Didn’t you call for a shareholders meeting at evening? ”
” Cancel it. ” Sofya said simply.
” But – ” Nancy looked at Sawyer for support, but he shook his head, staring determinedly at the traffic ahead.
” Fine. ” Nancy returned to her usual stupor.
