My One And Only - Chapter 15 Murat Sarsilmaz 2
The rest of the car journey continued in silence. Nancy and Sawyer had been working for her for almost 8 years now. Even though Sofya knew they meant well, sometimes she couldn’t control her actions towards Murat. This was not the first time that a meeting had been cancelled because of Murat, and definitely not the last.
” Here we are, Miss Khemka. ” Sawyer announced after a short while, pulling in front of the Galaxy real estate building.
Sofya got down from the car, looking at the 42 storied building. It had been so long since she was last here, almost four years.
Entering the building, she took the lift and pressed on button numbered 30. Leaning against the wall, she suddenly felt her heart beating a little faster. Calm down, she told herself, it’s only Murat, your best friend. She herself could not understand why she was so anxious all of a sudden, and if possible a little afraid.
Coming out of the lift, she instinctively walked towards the door on right. The door was pure wooden with burnished silver and a gleaming handle. On top, there was a placard on which Lexwork Legal Associates was embossed in silver words.
Pushing the door open, she walked inside and went up to the receptionist, who was wearing too much of a make up. Smilingly she asked, ” How may I help you?”
” I am here to meet Mr. Murat ” Sofya replied nonchalantly.
” Do you have prior appointment? ” the receptionist asked her, doubt clearly written on her face, as she typed on the laptop.
Of course no, because Sofya had wanted to surprise him.
” No, but –
” Then you can’t see him. He’s very busy and has asked not to be disturbed. ” The receptionist cut Sofya with an air of finality.
Sofya leaned over the counter, her black oval eyes gleaming, she whispered ” How about this? You let me go in and greet him. We have been friends for a long time now, so if he doesn’t recognize me and berates you for negligence, I will compensate you, ok? ”
Seeing the receptionist hesitating, she added, ” Don’t worry I will pay you well. Because my name is Sofya Khemka. ”
The receptionist’s eyes bulged as if it were about to fall from it’s socket. How could she have not recognised her? But she did look different in person as compared to the pictures on Tv and newspaper.
” I am so sorry.. ” she stuttered, waving her hand apologetically.
” It’s ok. ” Sofya smiled. ” Can you show me his office now? ”
The receptionist nodded, too dumb founded to speak.
Reaching the door, Sofya took a deep breath and pushed open the door. The room was extra large to be an office. In the middle of the room, there was a long grey table and two men were deep in conversation, poring over a chart.
Murat was seated facing the door. He had looked up at the sound of the door opening, and the moment he saw Sofya, his face turned blank and then ecstatic.
The other man turned around slowly. As Sofya looked at him, she received a little shock. It was none other than Arnav.
” Sofya. ” Murat almost ran towards her and hugged her, lifting her feet off the ground. ” It’s been too long. ”
Sofya smiled. A feeling of warmth engulfed her. It was just like the old days, back at school. Over Murat’s shoulder, she saw Arnav getting to his feet. He seemed to have changed much from the last time she met him.
There was a beard on his face, his hair which was always gelled, was now unkept and their were dark shadows underneath his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept for days. All of this did not suit him. It seemed that he had even lost some weight.
As Murat let go of Sofya, Arnav came forward, his head inclined to one side as he greeted her.
” Miss Khemka. ”
” Mr. Raizada. ”
Sofya squinted at him. ” Are you not well? ”
The words escaped from her mouth before she could stop them. Cursing herself inwardly, she knew she wouldn’t get a straight answer from this man.
Arnav smiled at her concern. ” I am fine, just a little tired. Nothing that a little shower and sleep can’t cure. ”
Looking at Murat, he nodded knowingly, before saying ” I am leaving, you guys continue. ”
With that he was out of the office.
